Surrounded by beautiful nature, the property is also known as a community business by providing jobs for local people and donating part of the income to the local monastery and charity school that helps more than 1300 children. Boasting views of the lake and surrounding hills, each traditional lodge is built from locally sourced hardwood and bamboo. Sit back and relax while taking in sunset views from the loungers on the private deck. Fully furnished, it also has a spacious bathroom fitted with a shower and a great view of the lake. Quiet Sanctuary, but expensive”
A few things I feel I should highlight to future patrons: 1. You have to pay 65000 kyats to get to the hotel. Then another 65000 to go back to normal civilisation again. Total cost: 130000 kyats 2. Dinner there costs 7 usd per pax. Not too expensive, but when you compare to other places, it is relatively more expensive. I personally found it the food bland for my tastebuds. Honestly have no idea what other reviewers were raving about. 3. Day activities costs no less than 100+ USD which can be split by the number of people going. I personally felt that this is way too expensive for myanmar. Let's say you and your partner stayed for two nights and took a day trip and had dinner there twice. That would effectively set you back 400(accoms) + 100 (day trip) + 28 (dinner) + 100 (travel) =628usd. That said, the place was genuinely peaceful and scenic. Had a great sleep at night. Staffs were also very helpful and kind. Rooms facilities were quite nice, but nothing mind blowing.
The Inle Sanctuary maybe my favorite place I've ever stayed (and I've traveled A LOT). Absolutely secluded (no tourists anywhere near) and beautiful. Right by a local village, where the people are so happy to see you (I played volleyball and soccer with some locals), and everyone is so friendly. The service at the Inle Sanctuary is top notch. What you'd expect at a 5 star hotel, without all the fake polite BS. It's genuine and real. The people there are awesome. And the food. Easily the best food I had in all of Myanmar (and so cheap). Everything is fresh and local. Fish from the river. Meats from the local animals. Veggies from the land. I extended my stay while there and will be dreaming about going back. Stay here.
Fantastic- away from the crowds- so much better than Inle Lake
amazing place to stay, I highly recommend”
I really want to thank Aung Min and his wife (the owners) for this beautiful and peaceful eco resort they have made. The staff is extremely warm. We feel like at home. Food is delicious and there are many things to see around. We should have stayed longer, 2 nights is really not enough !
The location is fantastic and so peaceful. The staff is very warm and friendly - Also a great spot for walks in the surroundings to visit the small villages in the area
This is a fantastic place to relax and enjoy a very nice moment at the lake Samkar and in the Phayartaung village. The owners and staff are very nice, welcoming and helpful, and advised us some nice walks around. The cottages are super nice, very clean and well arranged. I highly recommend this place and thank so much the hosts for these moments spent there.
A hidden paradise”
The Inle Sanctuary is located on the Sankar lake south of Inle lake. The location is beautiful, peaceful, authentic and unspoiled. The hotel is powered by solar energy, the rooms are well designed, the food is delicious and the staff very friendly. You can learn how to paddle with your feet like the Inntha do on the lake, you can swim in the lake and go on your own to discover the lake with a small wooden boat. This place is a must see for anyone who wants to go off the beaten track.
Amazing gem of a place in a beautiful setting”
The Inle Sanctuary is in a perfect setting on Sankar Lake - it's a beautiful area, quiet, yet lots to explore in the area. The hotel was built with details in mind - the rooms and bathrooms are large and clean and set up so that each room has privacy on its veranda overlooking the lake and mountains. The staff are also extremely warm and helpful - whether during meals or in deciding what to see in the area. The hotel can arrange day tours to villages and sights in the area (all of which see few tourists) or it's possible to explore nearby villages and hot springs by foot. The food is delicious - fresh and with a big variety at each meal, cooked by the owner's wife - and served according to your preferred time. It's easy to get there from Nyaungshwe by either boat (3.5 hours) or car (2 hours) with idyllic views and options for sightseeing along the way. It's also accessible from Loikaw in Kayah State. I stayed two nights and wish I could have stayed for at least three or four!
One of the best places I've ever stayed”
Our favorite stay in Myanmar. Aung Min, his wife, and the staff do an incredible job at making you feel at home. The food is delicious and plentiful (literally all you can eat, unlimited servings of delicious, fresh food). The amenities are gorgeous. It's incredibly peaceful. You'll be one of the very few tourists to have ever been here -- I can't recommend this place enough. Some things to do: watch the sunset from the other side of the peninsula, walk through the village and meet people, take a fishing class, enjoy the 5 day market, take the boat from the airport, canoe on the waters, stargaze at night, check out the local monastery, relax and enjoy quiet and peacefulness that you rarely will feel in everyday life
This is a great hotel for a few days of relaxing. The cottages are super nice (106 is the best), new and clean. You can watch the fisherman all day from your veranda. The host Aung Min and super nice, ask him to organize a visit to the local monastery. This place is a 4.5h boat ride from Nyaung Shwe. You can include most "standard Inle lake destinations" on the way at little or no extra charge. Shower is solar-powered, so may not be hot early in the morning. No problem later in the day. I would recommend Inle Sanctuary to anyone that wants to stay in a very special, yet affordable place far from the tourist horde.
Everything was perfect here and it even started before we arrived at the property with the private transfer with sightseeing which was the perfect introduction to the beautiful lake Inle. The couple owning the property is truly kind and dedicated to their guests. The food was the best we had in Myanmar. Everything was fresh, organic, local and cooked to perfection for a reasonable price! The room features incredible views, including from the shower. We were not disturbed by any kind of noise and the staff also made their best efforts to ensure that mosquitoes would not bother us either. The surroundings are very calm which is what you would expect from the lake Inle. You feel completely rested after two nights here. I will warmly recommend this property to all of my friends who plan a trip to Myanmar! It was an unforgettable experience.
Secluded beautiful place”
The hotel took us 7 hour boat journey (including a few stops along the way to check out the attractions) under hot sun to arrive. However its worth the long journey. The hotel is very secluded in Sakar Lake with a beautiful view near a small village of which you can explore. The cooking by the wife of the owner of this Hotel is amazing. The staffs are also very welcoming and polite. However, the cleanliness can be improved. The room was slightly dusty and the toilet bowl for my room was cleaned properly. However, this is not a big complain, its a rather small establishment and the staffs and the owner did all they can to make sure that all the guests are happy. I would recommend this place.
Im very lucky that I choose Inle Sanctuary”
I have no any comment for inle Sanctuary, everything was excellent. We feeling very thankful to AungMin built a such wonderful resort in this village. And his wife home cook is really nice. I was sick when I there , and very appreciate the homecook tomato soup. I felt sorry that I really cant finish it. Please stay at least 3 nights, we stayed too short this time. For whom, who need a quite holiday, you can enjoy the beautiful and peaceful lake in Inle Sanctuary. Nobody will disturb you, you can fully relax. And the village people, is very pure and kind. I m v happy, happy to met those cute village people. Im already leave sakar lake for one week but I still very miss there. I Wish to go back again. Thank you for everything.
A real sanctuary ”
This resort lives up to its name "sanctuary". It's located in Sankar Lake which is connected to Inle Lake by a narrow passage. The boat trip to the resort, although long (3 hours), is a scenic ride and well worth the time. Once you arrive you would be greeted by the owner Aung Min and his lovely staff. Before we even met Aung Min went out of his way and bought baby nappies for us in the nearby city - he is the best host. The bungalows are absolutely world class and situated in the most surreal setting - each equipped with a balcony that looks over the lake. Sankar Lake is not a touristy area (yet) so there's no other hotel nearby and very few tourist motor boats (unlike Inle Lake). To pass time, you can simply walk to the nearby village, take trips across the lake, peddle the canoe, watch local kids diving or read a book on the balcony of the bungalow. In fact time will pass without you realising it. For the first time in many years we saw sky full of stars. Truly magical. James
Relaxing and scenic stay”
the hotel arranged for us to be collected from Heho airport and we chose then to get to the hotel by boat. It was a longish journey but we chose to visit jewellery making, boat making yard, silk weaving, a floating village and a lakeside monastery. All were really interesting. The hotel food was really good value as was the wine. The hotel is family run and they and the staff are really friendly. Hills run down both sides of the lake and sunset and sunrise are stunning.
High quality, small scale, peaceful setting with fantastic help before, during and after our stay.”
Pros 1. Setting No other hotels for miles around, set adjacent to small scale local village and monastery without tourist trappings. Sankar lake even can be quiet without the sound of pasding outboard motors unlike inle lake. 2. Room facilities and plenty of blankets plus restaurant breakfast lunch and dinner were all good quality served in attractive outside setting. 3. Staff...AUng and his wife organised boats to and from the hotel and also hotels in pekon and pilaung for us as there were no hotels with websites or english speaking. Bo took us on an informative and enjoyable early morning trip to monastery and school meeting children doing early morning exercises, cooking breakfast for 100s ,chopping wood, bottling water. The book on the place was interesting too. We went on the lake in a rowing boat we borrowed from the hotel, and visited local hotsprings and temple..all left to find our own way with good instructions...or we could have had a guide if nèeded . Con The balcony at
+ beautiful scenery, very nice host and staff, delicious meals - only worm (not hot) water in the shower
Peaceful, Beautiful, Wonderful”

Wonderful, peaceful place”
Definitely our best experience in Myanmar. The accommodation is great, the views are astonishing, the food is excellent. Aung Min and his wife made us feel like home. Many thanks again!
