A Nice 3 Nights & 2 Days Stay”

Take #3 bus (turn right after exit Dali train station) and stop at Gurong Hotel. Cost 3rmb only. Gurong Hotel is just next to Red Dragon Wall Gate (a big grey stone wall). Cross the highway and walk straight for about 5min until came about 77 Guesthouse. Then, turn left and walk uphill to Jade Emu Guesthouse. The guesthouse is nice. Room is spacious and they will change your towel everyday. There are no air-conditioner in the room but the room will get cold especially during night. Only few minutes walk to Dali Ancient City. Anyway, we have a nice stay here. The staff can speak/understand english and don’t forget to meet Magic (i think the owner’s dog). p/s: Take the same bus #3 from the guesthouse to Dali train station which is also the last stop

Great hostel for international travelers”

Jade Emu was very convenient to the Dali ancient town, just across the street. Front desk staff were super sweet and helpful. Good Chinese and western food available at the hostel throughout the day...prices comparable to places in town, always tasted good. Nice selection of reasonably priced beers. Also a very cute dog belonging to the owners who would come play with me! Rooms were spacious and comfortable, although in the winter time it could be quite chilly at night, and the small space heater they had didn’t really cut it. The shower in our room was poorly designed so it would flow down into the toilet area, causing significant flooding. Other than that, it was a great place to stay.

Fantastic hotel”

The rooms

This hotel was just great, its run by an Australian who seems to know what people want in a hotel and is full of useful information. The room was spacious and spotlessly clean and even had a heated blanket for the bed and a plug in heater, which trust me at night its needed in the winter. The hotel has an entertainment room which contains computers, games, books, a TV and many DVDS which you can take back to your room if you prefer. The restaurant/ bar is located in a courtyard so can be a bit chilly first thing in the morning and late at night, however heaters and fires are provided if you need them. We both really enjoyed our stay at the Jade Emu and would defiantly recommend it to others.

Phenomenal Customer Service!”

Customer service, ticket booking, internet

We had a great stay at the Jade Emu, the room was comfortable, and they offer wifi that tunnels under the Chinese firewall (ie facebook, other forbidden sites). The food was good, and the location was nice, walking distance to old town. What makes this hotel outstanding, though is their customer service. They arrange bus tickets, inclusive of taxi to bus station- when we left our jackets on the bus, the staff was able to track down the bus driver, and arrange to have the jackets left at the hotel for our return. This is practically a miracle in China.

Very pleasant stay”

The guest house and its facilities, friendly people, good walking access to old Dali town.

We enjoyed staying at Jade Emu Guest house, the place was relaxed, quiet and interesting with its own library and free DVD's, two restaurants, pool table, plenty of arranged tours if you wanted them, Wi Fi and DVD in the room, good for foreigners who appreciate an English speaking owner (Australian), sometimes a bit difficult to communicate with the Chinese staff and they can be slow to get things done, particularly getting your fist coffee in the morning......we met some great people who are now on our email contact list!

clean room, nice people, tours provided

I had a great experience in Jade Emu. It is unique in that it mingles people from all over the world with all kinds of backgrounds, and ppl here are open and friendly. Apart from this, it has nice rooms, and more importantly a lovely yard to have a drink/chat with friends here. The hostel also provides optional tours, which can save your research time

Great value, good vibe, cold rooms”

Great value, good vibe, delicious food

Overall a good stay, with great value and clean, well-equipped rooms. Close to the old city of Dali with great shopping, mountain trekking, bike riding etc. Two complaints about the room: there is no heater, which makes the room VERY cold for the time of year I visited (early December). The floors are tile so it makes for an extra cold experience. Secondly, the lights they use in the rooms are daylight balanced, meaning the bright white colour they give off is very unwelcoming and makes everything look clinical and cold. I'd recommend they just use normal bulbs which would instantly make the rooms feel more warm and welcoming. The staff speak excellent English, and unlike most accommodation in China, Wifi is available in-room.

Awesome Hotel with good service”

cheap, clean, good location, helpful staff, english speaking

We stayed in the guesthouse for 4 nights, in a double deluxe room. The room was very big, and clean (which isn't trivial in China), the staff was very helpful and it is recommended to book through them tours, taxis and bus. Everyone spoke English which also isnt trivial in China, and were very nice. It is in a central location, 5 minutes walk from all the pubs and 10 minutes from the main street. The Guesthouse is great and very very recommended.

Out of expectation hostel in Dali”

location, cleanliness, value worth

A pleasant stay. Very well equip room with all necessity despite a hostel rate of charges. The hotel provide daily tour that is charged reasonably. They even help us to book the bus back to Kunming in fare charges. Tips: I regret to prebook tour from Lijiang to Dali that end up with a forceful shopping tour. I should have join the daily tour together with the in-house hostel guest itself.

The best hostel I have ever expected in China”

Cleanliness, location, value worth

The room is well equiped with the necessity that you can find in a standard hotel despite it is only a hostel. The environment is very American style where you would expect a little cafe/bar counter in the court yard with standard american breakfast menu. I hardly see many Western foreigner out in the street but I saw majority in the hostel itself! :) Tips: Becareful if you travel from Lijiang with prebooked Dali tour (even if you paid more for the tour to avoid shopping). They force you to go shopping and I heard some could even set a minimum spending limit. If you want to leave the tour half way, they would ask for a compensate of RMB480 per pax.
