First Trip to NY--The James Nomad did not disappoint”
As a first time traveler to New York, the James Nomad hotel did not disappoint. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted by such friendly staff. Having a red eye flight, it took the stress out of my visit for them to openly offer to hold my bags, as well as enjoy hot coffee in the lobby while I unwound from a long flight with minimal sleep, while good vibes music played in the background. The lobby area is so quaint and I'm all for a hotel that smells amazing when you walk in. The wine hour in the evening in the lobby as well was a nice addition. Outside of the A/C struggling to cool down my room in the July heat/humidity, I absolutely loved my stay and I would stay here 10x again!!
late check in early check out”
Overall hotel Location, Facilities and Room cleanliness is TOP! very cozy modern vibe. Being a mother daughter trip~ we were looking for a more spacious room. Jame-nomad had the perfect room for us. Very spacious. And booking months ahead, we got a great deal for the two queen bedroom. (the fan is a bit... well very Noisy. please be warned. :)) On our agoda voucher it had said check in 2pm- checkout 2pm. But on the actual day of arrival room wasnt ready till 4pm. This was compensated with a Bonne. When confirming our checkout time at the front desk, staff member told us we had to check out at 12 cause we hadn't booked 'directly' to the hotel... that was a bit of miss for us cause we had asked prior for a late check out (if possible.) and the fact that i had asked the front desk on the actual day after 11AM! we had to hurry.... Apart from that I would definetly go back and stay at the James Nomad. thank you~.

I am happy to stay at The James New York Nomad
Perfect location ”
I loved my stay at the James. Perfect location to reach any neighborhood in NYC. The front desk and the cleaning staff were wonderful. The room was spacious and super clean. I really enjoyed my stay and fully recommend it.
Fab location! Friendly staff especially at breakfast! Great coffee!”
Ariana was fab to chat to and our breakfast was always served with a smile and chat. Room was super comfy but you can hear the tv a bit of the people next door have it on. It’s expensive but if you shop around you can find this hotel with a range of prices. It’s near to the Empire State Building and the metro which is easy to use to get to all the sights! Get the breakfast! It’s worth it.
Beware of Facilities/Resort fees ”
Great location, comfy bed, tiny but clean bathroom, staff OK. Initial room had strange smell so was changed with no fuss to similar odourless room. Room furnishing/decor looking tired despite relatively new hotel. Shocking additional "facilities/resort" fee charged on checkout (usd200) - illegal in many countries, contentious in USA. Looking back the Agoda confirmation email does show this in extra small fine print but only after booking is made and paid. Overall expensive for what it is, made worse by excessive and unexpected resort fee.
Enjoyable Stay”
The staff was friendly and quite helpfull. The room was new, spotless and comfortable.
Very Pleased”
I was not sure w hat to expect given the cost of the room we reserved - relatively inexpensive! We were more than pleasantly surprised. Shout out to Philip at the registration desk who was personable and extremely helpful in revising our reservation so we did not have to change rooms over the two nights we were there. He also provided recommendations/suggestions at our request. Would definitely recommend. My only (minor) complaints - one has to use room service for ice - I understand that is standard now and wash cloths were not replaced. (We didn't bother to request them since we were only going to be there the one night.)
Front desk staff seemingly not trained. ”
We had a number of occasions to deal with the front desk. It seemed as though each time they looked at the computer screen it was the first time they’d seen it. Had to get booking agent involved to insist upon remaining in the room which we were quoted and booked. Told a number of untruths, like the category which we booked did not exist, (deluxe queen with two queen beds) but only after the booking agent which handles firm business got involved was it amicably and quickly resolved. Nice folks at the desk but seemingly ill equipped. Also, extra hotel charge of $40 per day (including taxes and fees) was not in the prepaid reservation and was for a lame coffee bar for two hours and an unused wine and cheese hour midday. Great central location and maid service was excellent and friendly but it didn’t make up for the frustration experienced at the front desk.
Disappointing and under par for service”
A whole host of issues at The James that disappointed - we had to change rooms twice as first was dirty and smelled of smoke, and the second was very noisy being directly above air con units; our final room would have been to a high spec when renovated but was starting to look tired and uncared for; we left bags at reception when we waited for check in, and on returning to the hotel the bellhop accepted a tip then left my partner struggling to carry up four bags to our 11th floor room (I was meeting a friend a the time); and finally I do not feel Agoda / The James made the facilities charge clear on booking - this didn’t break the bank ($80 for 2 nights) but when I mentioned this to receptionist on check out there wasn’t a hint of acknowledgment or empathy. For a city that prides itself on and rarely disappoints regarding service, The James fell short. There are better mid range options out there.
Great staff/location /Services- Will stay there everytime I'm in NYC”
Thank you so much! I stayed there for four nights while seeing my "Potential Girlfriend" the time when we were apart- I was in and out of the hotel. The staff was always friendly and attentive. The bed was comfortable and bathroom was nice. This was a perfect trip!
Excellent Boutique Hotel, Excellent Service”
I would stay here again in a heartbeat! The staff was super courteous ad friendly in a relaxed way that put guests at ease. There is excellent coffee in the morning in the lobby, and wine and cheese hour in the late afternoon. The rooms are small, but tasteful and spotless. Loved it.
Fantastic hotel ”
This was our second time we stayed at this hotel and it was just as fantastic as the first time we stayed. Great location and the staff are so nice and friendly.
Solid hotel for midtown east access”
Nice boutique hotel, room was decent size as Manhattan goes. Quality bedding and nice appointments - 2 USB connections on each side of the bed. Smart, comfortable hotel.
Dreadful staff”
Lovely old building outside and a nice room. But the staff were very disappointing...not a smile between the lot of them. And they charge a "facility fee" for a glass of wine at 5pm (in plastic cups) and a piece of old cheese. What a rort! They had no umbrellas when it rained, and we were refused entry to the jazz club downstairs, even though we were guests (probably too old at 50). Also, I was woken 2 nights in a row by middle-aged drunk women running up and down the corridor, which the staff knew about. I asked them to speak to them and they said they couldn't be sure who they were. They were a large group...they knew. So whoever the GM is should be retired and someone new brought in to train the vey sub-standard staff at this hotel. I could have stayed another week, but chose to change hotels. I will never go back.
Nice Stay ”
Nice stay. Clean Room. Maid service very friendly and good. Central to NYC. Easy to walk to subways etc. Food, restaurants in the area seemed to close early.
Disappointed”
Everything was absolutely average and below except location. We must have gotten the butlers room. That’s probably the amount of pull that Agoda has. So I wouldn’t recommend Agoda OR the James. Took my son for his 15th birthday.
Nice hotel, rooms clean but very noisy! 35 USD additional per night when you check in! Not agree! ”
Rooms are very noisy, the bed and towels are very clean and soft. Restaurant Scarpeta and Seville are nice and trendy. I am very disappointed because they charge you $35 USD per night as hotel fee additional of your payment to AGODA, NOT AGREE. I will make a formal claim to AGODA to reimburse my money back.
Hotel is run down and old”
Dirty Carpets, my shower felt like a shower at an airport hilton. There was no fitted sheets on my bed, so I had to sleep with the comforter on my skin. There was constantly room service old old old food in the halls. The hotels decor is so confusing, it is trying to be modern, but vintage, but ikea all at the same time. My coworkers and I were very disappointed for the price and the reviews agonda gave it. The pictures were also not accurate, the rooms are SO SO SO TINY. And the bathroom is extremely tiny.
