Wonderful Kala”
We just returned from a 3 night stay from The Kala at Koh Samui. It was a very wonderful, relaxing trip, all thanks to the amazing view and the amazing staff of the Kala, nothing was too much trouble for them, you just had to ask! All the rooms offer a fantastic sea view. On our 3rd day, we decided to change room due to too sunny balcony. We specified the room and got it without problem, The view in the 1st room was good, the view in the 2nd was even more gorgeous! There were a lot of steps, hence it is not really recommended for children nor the elderly. Precisely because of the steps, that is why the view is commanding. During dusk, we managed to go all the way down to the platform on a cliff, the view is just astonishing. And the best part was, there were no other guests around! The Kala is a cozy establishment. Although there are other guests, you do feel like you are the only ones around at times. There are only 3 choices to the breakfast. I'd recommend the Han Chao set (porridge and side dishes), its really delicious! We ordered room service for one of the nights, and the food was good. Contrary to previous reviews, our food came within 5 mins (while at the restaurant), and within 15 mins (for room service). In fact, all our requests were attended to very promptly. Ocassionally when it was not so quick, it is attributed to communication problem (they didn't quite understand us). We tried the Thai massage a few times, it is very relaxing! Much better experience and ambience than those at the beach (the one at Lamai beach was quite good too). Highly recommended. The prices were reasonable, 1200 THB for a Thai massage, and the hotel gave us 500THB voucher to offset, what a good deal! There is also an internet room, going online is a breeze. The Kala also provides transport to the nearby Thong Yang beach (5 mins walk away to your right), as it does not have a beach on its own. You must try the Tom Yum Goong, fried Thai curry with chicken there. It is eve

Charming corner of Samui”
I have been to Samui numerous times since 1994 & Kala's location between Lamai & Chaweng had always been my favourite area of the island, simply due to the higher landscape offering breathtaking view over the Gulf and Chaweng. Kala was thus a fine surprise --- from the moment you enter the hotel to the reception lobby, the restaurant to the rooms, and the bar to the pools, the view alone is worth the stay. It's a stone throw away from the bustling Chaweng and Lamai, yet Kala is well tucked away for those who wants total serenity and privacy. Architecturally the hotel is interestingly laid out being separated into 5 levels on the cliff. Although the hotel doesn't have a beach, but the detailing of the wooden sea front deck around the rocks illustrated how thoughtful the builder had been. Take lots of pictures, as you will be surprise how artistic they'll turn out. Definitely 5 star environment at an affordable price.

Great spot for honeymooners”
located about 30 minutes drive from samui airport, the kala hotel, is a lovely boutique premium hotel best suited for couples and honeymooners. its location on chaweng noi shelters the kala hotel from the hustle and bustle of the busier, bigger beaches of chaweng and lamai. there is free wifi but you can only access it at the main lobby. breakfast menu is sumptous and the grounds are well manicured. the infinity pool is small but this is normal for a boutique hotel. the private villas are beautifully designed and spacious but like most sea-side properties in thailand, mosquitoes are a problem especially at dusk. we find that the villas are located too close to each other and our private pool for example is not so private - guests using the infinity pool can peek into our private pool.

Boutique hotel with spacious rooms”
Located about 30 minutes drive from Samui Airport, the Kala Hotel, is a lovely boutique premium hotel best suited for couples and honeymooners. Its location on Lamai Noi shelters the Kala Hotel from the hustle and bustle of the busier main beaches of Chaweng and Lamai. Our Deluxe room was nicely designed, spacious and comfortable. There is free WiFi but you can only access it at the main lobby. Breakfast is nice so too are the grounds. The infinity pool is small but this is normal for a boutique hotel.

Incredible hotel on the mountain side of Samui”
Our stay at the Kala was phenomenal. From getting picked up by Tek (our driver) at the airport, to the superb welcoming by Kuan (the hotel manager) and the friendly staff, our stay was just perfect in Samui. We were slap bang in the middle of Chaweng and Lamai beach, meaning it was a 10min drive either way. Was also great because we were away from the hustle and bustle of the crowded tourist-filled Chaweng. On our request via the Agoda website, the management gave us the best ocean view room we could have hoped for (something we didn't expect), and the rooms were decorated immaculately. Every little detail has been though of in this hotel. The one thing we loved was the fact you could order breakfast anytime between 6.30am and 10.30PM! Meaning if you leave early in the morning for a snorkeling tour, you have a free and amazing meal when you get back to the hotel at night. Scrambled eggs were amazing! Otherwise this hotel covers all your needs, and the friendly staff really make you feel as comfortable as possible. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a romantic getaway!

A True Step Towards Heaven”
They say that the Kala is 'a place where time stands still' They totally deliver. I arrived there stressed out and tired and - i promise you - as soon as I stepped onto the property and saw how the ocean was framed in the high open entrance hall I knew my detox holiday had begun. The build quality of this hotel is superb. All the right elemental materials make it as luxuriously close to nature as you can get. My room was big and very private. The bed, very comfortable. The swimming pool and private decks are really, really peaceful - you can't help but switch off! As i said, the hotel really does over deliver on everything - except the Lunch and Dinner menu. Generally speaking the food on Koh Samui is awesome and the fact is the current Kala menu is uninspired, over priced and under portioned. I rethink is needed here. Other than that, you really can not go wrong staying at the Kala. I absolutely loved it and I will be back. Just not for dinner.

Amazing! ”
We travelled around Thailand for some weeks and this was our last stop, where we just wanted to relax, and the kala was the perfect choice. It was beautiful, the staff went above and beyond and made our stay perfect! It is just about 5mins drive away from both lamai and chaweng, but we hired a scooter thru the hotel and they were great! Was an awesome way to get round! The hotel will also give you a ride to wherever you want on island for price cheaper than taxi fares and in some cases for absolutely nothing. Breakfast was amazing also! Highly reccomend the Kala to anyone! AND TRY THEIR MOJITOS! best I've ever had!

PURE BLISS! ”
My partner and I stayed at The Kala Hotel for 4 nights and were so blown away by our experience there! The views from our room, the pool and even the lobby were beautiful. The hotel was relaxing, quiet and extremely peaceful. The staff were able to assist with anything you needed which made everything very easy. Location is in between the 2 main areas of the island (Chaweng & Lamai) although it was no more than a 10 minute scooter ride each way. If you don’t plan on hiring a scooter you may not find this location ideal as you would have to get a taxi all the time, however we loved being away from the busy areas as we could easily scooter around. Would 100% recommend this hotel!!! It made our stay :)

Romantic getaway from it all!”
This hotel is nothing short of perfect. It is beautifully decorated and they really thought of everything you could possibly want. You are greeted with a stunning lobby, overlooking the water and welcome drink. The rooms almost all come with breathtaking views and balconies over the water. Additionally the bathrooms are too die for, with a bathtub big enough for two, a rain shower and some very aromatic shampoos and bath soaps! Breakfast is served all day so you can get up whenever you want, or even eat after a day tour. The grounds are beautifully kept and there is plenty of space around the pool and down by the water for lounging. The kala resort is built against a rock so although there is some snorkelling around the hotel it's much better to walk down to Coral Bay beach (5 min) to go snorkelling there. The Thai food is really tasty and they even have a happy hour once a day. I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone who really wants an escape to paradise! The price for the deluxe rooms is a total steal and the villas are so stunning you won't care how much they cost. I have lived in Thailand for 7 years and I would definitely call this a 5 star resort here. Just a side note, the hotel is really well isolated, so the food/drink tab adds up very quickly. You are not walking distance to any store or other restaurants so you need to take a taxi everywhere (starting price 300-400 each way). The hotel does provide a shuttle to Lamai at 11am and a shuttle to chaweng at 4pm (both only one way).

A great little boutique hotel with stunning views”
The Kala is a great little boutique hotel with million dollar views. This is not overated as the views from the lobby, from the rooms and from the pool will take your breath away. The overall design concept of the hotel revolves around coconut by-products (The Kala means the coconut shell) and this theme runs consistently throughout. The main materials used for the decoration of this resort are terrazzo, travertine stone, imported balinese lava stone, marble and sandstone. Exterior design look more like a balinese resort, but interior design reveals a very strong southern thai accent, in a chic, stylish way with the liberal use of coconut shells, coconut wood as decoration. (You'll find even coconut shampoo and bathfoam). Not to mention a coconut jam on toast for breakfast. I really applaud the idea of all-day breakfast as you can order set-menu breakfast anytime you like throughout the day. The hotel also have wooden paths leading down to the rocky headland below for great sea views. No beach access, so people who have beach as a priority should stay away. But for those who want a relaxing with stunning sea views and a place to bath in sunlight, this is the place for you. I'll give it a 9 for overall experience (Not the mention a very affordable rates offered by the hotel).

boutique-feeling on cliff”
The Kala hotel is a very unique hotel with only seaview rooms, even out of your bathtub! The view from the infinity pool and relaxing area on top of the rocks is very serene. There is no beach in front of the hotel but you can borrow their kayaks to reach in 2 minutes a little sandy beach. It lays between Chaweng and Lamai and is not a touristy place. Unfortunately nearly every hotel lays on the busy road that goes along the sea. Still I can absolutely recommend this hotel to chill out for a couple of days.

Fantastic stay at The Kala Hotel”
I stayed at the Kala for three nights over Christmas with my girlfriend as a break from travelling. The hotel is set on a cliff with fantastic views from all over the hotel which I feel is the main selling point for this hotel. The hotel had a contemporary feel due to its design, however this did not mean it lacked in character. I particulary liked the baths, sea views and the pool. The food was slightly above average and overpriced for Thailand, however the romantic ambience made up for it. Overall one of the most unique, best value for money and best hotels in Samui.

Amazing value for money and the friendliest staff ”
I can't rate the Kala enough, the staff were so lovely the views were incredible, lovely atmosphere, beautiful clean rooms, great breakfast, I could go on... The only negative comment I would have is that the spa is so ridiculously expensive, about 2000 THB for a massage which is near on 10 times what it is if you go into town. I understand that it's a nice spa and it's going to be more expensive to pay UK prices is ridiculous and maybe if they made the prices more affordable they would get more customers. But overall loved the Kala and would definitely go back.

A Wonderful Stay at the Kala Hotel”
We stayed at the Kala for 3 nights in Feburary and it was absolutely wonderful. All the rooms have a sea view and what and it truly is the best view on the island. We booked a standard rooms and were very pleasantly surprised - it was big, with a lovely stone bathroom and huge bathtub for two and a good sized rain shower. The bed was massive and very comfy. We stayed on the top floor and I would definately recommend that rather than the ones below. There were a couple of private pool villas right by the cliff and they looked amazing - they are a definate for honeymooning couples! The staff were wonderful and very attentive to all our needs. And the food was superb - we had dinner there one night and it was certainly one of the best meals we had on the island. The portions are quite generous so if you order right its great value for money as well. The only downside would be getting to and from. We hired a car so it was perfect and we never had any trouble but I think if you didn't have any transport it would slightly difficult to access as it is located away from the hustle and bustle. The hotel is wonderfully private and quiet and it really feels like a sanctuary when you return from the crowds down in Chaweng. Can't recommend this place enough!!

Fantastic week on our first trip to Thailand”
We had a fantastic week at the Kala Hotel. The staff was amazing, helpfull and kind. We decided to have all our diners at the hotel, because their food is delizious. The hotel is 10 min by taxi away from the fantastic beach , but just 300 m nearby there is a beach with not many people but also with a little bar/restaurant. We will definately recommend this hotel and would love to come back.

Awesome place although it was only for a night. Duplex villla had an amazing view of the cliff and the sea. Everything else was perfect. Hotel to chaweng only takes 10 mins taxi ride. Will definitely Ensure The Kala resort my next choice of stay again in Samui!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Lovely little boutique hotel with great view”
My friend and I stayed in The Kala for 3 nights and really enjoyed our time there. Great breakfast with homemade coconut jam in the restaurant overlooking the sea. Loved the hotel room amenities (locally produced coconut lotion etc). The hotel was not too crowded, so although the pool is not very big, we had it to ourselves most of the time. The private beach shared by The Kala and two other hotels is either accessible by foot on the road (around 5 minutes) or by kayak (around 2 minutes - free rental from hotel). Kayaking there was much more fun (and less dusty!) and gave us a sense of adventure just getting to the beach. Best if you have a car as taxis are not cheap and The Kala is slightly off the beaten track. Standard of spa acceptable but then not something I would write home about either. Overall, lovely hotel and best for people who are young at heart and who don't expect a lot of pampering from their hotel.

QUIET PARADISE”
What a beautiful place! Never ever felt so relaxed, as soon as you arrive you feel you have arrived in heaven, the walk down to the the room(Pool Villa) down several flights of stairs and stone and wooden walkways set in lush tropical gardens was a surprise! As the photos online mainly show damp concrete and peeling paint? The room was spectacular with 180 degree views of the sea and decorated with a shabby chic colonial feel, with no less than 3 showers(I used all of them :-)) with super high pressure, what a pleasure! I'm a greedy person and the a la carte breakfast and in fact all of the food...restaurant and room service was excellent, so after several disappointing meals outside the Hotel, we appreciated and happy with the Hotel offering....which was always presented with lovely cutlery and unusual plates & dishes. If you want a truly relaxing Holiday in quiet, beautiful surroundings with helpful friendly staff this is the place to be...the photos online just do not do it justice!

Truly a retreat”
We had a wonderful stay at The Kala. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. We stayed at the Presidential Villa, which was a beauty on its own. The room was very cozy and truly reflective of nature. There was also a private infinity pool that overlooks the sea, which makes the whole experience even more surreal. There was also an open shower, an outdoor bathtub and a balcony. Breakfast does not come in a buffet but as a set meal. Even so, the food is yummy. Room service, as one would expect, is quite pricey. The downside of The Kala is that it is a little away from the town centre so it takes you about 15-20 minutes in a cab/tuk tuk to get to the town. It is not difficult to get a cab/tuk tuk, but be sure to bargain. Overall, it was a wonderful stay, especially if you are looking for a true retreat and quiet from the bustle of city life. Do be prepared though for temporary power cuts/wind banging on the windows in times of strong winds/heavy rains.
