Although this hostel located in Long Island City, but worry not it is just few stations away from Manhattan. I arrived around 6am in the morning and the hostel offers a towel and I can take a shower in the second floor! They have no breakfast service but there is a pantry available where you can cook or re-heat your foods. Refrigerator also available. The room itself was pretty good, clean, Air-con works perfectly fine, and although I was staying in 4 bunk beds per room, there's still a lot of room to move. The receptionist also offers free padlock for me to put my stuff in the room :) Ah, they also have laundry machine and drying machine (put $2.5 usd for each machine, detergent is not provided tho) which it was something that I need after few days of travelling with dirty clothes occupying my luggage. Overall this is a very nice experience with Local Hostel NYC :)
Was looking for a easy location to get around town with ease. Was in NYC for the Jamiroquai concert and celebrate my birthday weekend. I have to say your place did not disappoint. I plan to come to New York again and you will have my business again. I will highly recommend the Local Hostel.
Very clean hostel”
The hostel has a great facilities and it is totally different from other hostels in term of cleanless and tidness. This hostel is well maintained and has a great friendly atmosphere. The hostel is very close to the metro station which is around 5 mins on foot and it has an easy aaccess to the main areas in NYC. The price is a bit expensive compared to other hostels but this is NY so you need to expect this kind of amount. I recommend staying in this hostel for a low budget travellers.
Reasonable Acommodation in NY”
If you are a solo traveler, this hostel is the best choice. I made so many friends in this hostel. The staffs are also kind. Acommodation fee in NY is insane. I think this hostel has reasonable price compared to other hotel. Of course, it is shared room. But I spent very amazing time in this hostel.
excellent for budget travelers”
I've been to another hostel in Washington DC but Local Hostel is so much better. The interior is comparable to a boutique hotel. I like they separated the shower from the toilet and I never had bathroom fight with my room mates. The concept of partitioning the corridor and the room is great, I can do my washing up and packing without waking up my other room mates. The location is good. It is in an industrial area, I was worried about the safety but it seems alright for a solo female traveler to return past 12am, though it is not encouraged.
Quite expensive, but totally worth it. Located reasonably close to Manhattan (you'll still need to take a subway to get to Manhattan, 15-minute trip). Staffs are nice and the place is clean. Tourist-friendly (close to groceries, etc.). There's a nice balcony to hang around and see NYC. Will definitely stay again if I come to NYC.
Good location, only 1-2 stops by subway to get to Manhattan. Very nice views from the rooftop. Plenty of comunal areas. The only thing I didn't like much was the bar area at night, the music was a bit too loud, felt almost like a club. Everything else just fine if you know you are actually going to a hostel (bunks, shared bathrooms, etc). The staff were helpful every time I asked them for something. Very inexpensive for NYC. Would gladly repeat as a solo traveler.
it was good and cozy”
it was one of the best hostels that i ve visited. nice atmosphere, clean and not too noisy. But to enjoy night life in NY, it is not good place, because it is in Brooklyn. However, if U decide to have one or two days in Brooklyn, i will recommend this.
Have no doubt to stay here! Best hostel I took ever in NY! Staffs are friendly. Room are clean and neat. Facilities are cool!!
The property is stylish. Super fancy hostel, especially for New York. Check in is easy. You need to pay $1 for storing your luggage.
A nice place to stay in NYC”
The hostel is pretty close to Manhattan - take a subway ride for about 20 mins and you’ll be there. The place is clean and comfortable which you can have a decent sleep. What’s more, their staffs are really nice that you can have some chats with.
Amazing. Super Nice Staff. Clean Rooms. ”
It was awesome. The staff was super friendly and knowledgeable. The location to transport is easy. It's clean and new. And after a loud day/night in the city, you can go to a quiet surrounding!
Decent place for a room in New York”
The place wasn't that bad. The hostel is clean, but there was a bunch of fruit flies everywhere because other guests left their food and trash in the kitchen, and in other places instead of putting it in the trashcan. The hostel has a policy where guests need to clean up after themselves, but if they don't then the trash piles, which then attracts bugs. The bunk beds were short for me. I am 6'4" and I had to lay diagonal on the bed to fit. Otherwise it wasn't that bad. If your roommates are dirty and nasty, it can be a nightmare since their are two bunk beds and the rooms are small. Smells will linger in the room and will make you feel nauseous.
Pretty Nice Memory !”
It was pretty great and comfortable ! We can take hot shower and use clean restroom and bed! Additionaly we can make nice friends at the bar in Local! I want to stay again ! Thank you !
A mix of feelings”
The hostel is well located, and staff is friendly - they also hand you a voucher to redeem for free beer, wine, or coffee. However, the guy who stayed at the top bunk ruined my stay. He was drunk in the first night, and in the other nights he went in and out of his bed making a lot of noise - saw himself walking around the room and staring at the other travelers and me while we were sleeping. I asked the reception to switch rooms in the first night, but they said they were unable to do so as they had to reconvert a female bedroom into a mixed room to accommodate our stay at the hostel. I don't blame on management for this, but it was one of the worst experiences I've ever had in a hostel.
Great hostel to stay, shared facilities were well maintained and organised. Enjoyable stay overall. Most people there were quite friendly and respectful
Close to subway, comfortable hostel”
The staff are nice and helpful. The Hostel is close to three different subway stations, easy access to everywhere. Bathroom is on the small size but clean enough. Overall a great place to stay.
Affordable, good location”
Only stayed one night, yet hostel seemed to have a great atmosphere, clean, beds were comfortable. Location is perfect - in between JFK and Manhattan
7 days with same towel and bed sheets - very bad”
i can only complain in 2 aspects the first one is: i stayed 7 nights and my bed sheets and towel were not changed even I asked to the housekeeping which she promised to do it the room is comfy but they do not clean the room i did a test for 3 days with sweets papers under my bed and they were there until i removed it dust in room were everywhere the housekeeping do not use a dust cleaner to removed it on top of this, on the roof over there is an air condition which is on-off every 10-15 minutes during all night the hostel charges 1 dollar per bag when you request them to keep it for a few hours good free WiFi everywhere good small pub for drinking and meet new friends
Excellent Value for the Money”
It was great at the Local. My stay at the local was not only at a great location but I was also well taken care of by the staff. I would definitely recommend it.
