This hotel was just walking distance from Kyoto station, there is a bus stop at the door step. We took bus back after visiting Gion and Kiyomizu. There is a big 7 Eleven nearby, where there is a courier service to send our luggages to our next hotel. The staffs speak very good English, the lady who wore the artist's hat mending the reception was very helpful, giving us advise regarding the courier procedure, help us to get the form from 7 11 and help us to fill up the form. We stayed in the private room, the room is bigger that those of the hotel and the breakfast was simple western with good gourmet coffee set in their very relax instagramable restaurant.
Thank you for staying with us! We are glad to have your amazing and kind comments. It couldn't be better that you enjoyed a lot in Kyoto, and our breakfast. It's also honor that you mentioned our staff. We appreciate it. We hope that someday you come back here! Best, Keiko, The Lower East Nine Hostel
Clean, friendly & helpful staff. Affordable yet classy, nice athmosphere, convenient location”
The place is really clean with fully equipped kitchen, the bed and room we got is generously spaced for a hostel - we felt so comfortable. With free shampoo and liquid soap. The free breakfast (boiled egg, bread, jam, margarine)is good & filling. The ambiance is homey & friendly. My family had a very nice experience and we would definitely stay there again if we have a chance to visit Kyoto. Highly recommendable. Our tip to visitors would be study the routes and transportation very well to avoid getting lost & wasting precious time. Re location pls take karasuma line and alight at Kujo station ( one station after kyoto) then exit at exit#3. When you exit at #3 turn right and approx 30 steps to the hostel.
Thank you for staying with us! It couldn't be better that you loved our hostel, and also a lot of things in Kyoto. Actually it's just 30 step from exit #3 of Kujo station to our hostel. We appreciate your clear and kind guide! You are always welcome. We can't wait to see you again here! Best, Keiko, The Lower East Nine Hostel
very impressive place”
The hostel is near Kyoto station, you can walk there about 10 mins. They provide simple breakfast for guests. (bread, eggs, milk and orange juice) Towel is free and they already made the bed for you. (Some hostel they only give you bedsheet and you have to do it yourself.) The staff are nice and helpful. I just love this hostel and will go back again for sure.
Thank you for staying at The Lower East Nine Hostel! We really appreciate your kind comments. We hope you enjoyed everything in Kyoto, and felt comfortable in our hostel. And it's honor to be able to have your comments about staff. Thank you so much again! Have a safe trip, we can't wait to see you again here! ขอบคุณ ค่ะ. Keiko, The Lower East Nine Hostel
The staff spoke English very well and was so accommodating. The shower and toilet were clean and well-maintained. Our room was so tiny though for 8-people capacity and if other travellers have two big suitcases, there won’t be enough space to walk around the room.
Thank you for staying at The Lower East Nine Hostel! We are glad to have your kind comments about staff. It's honor for us. And we are sorry for not having enough space in the room. We hope there is no other problem in your stay. Despite that, we appreciate your high rating. Thank you so much again. We hope you enjoyed traveling in Kyoto and someday come back here! Best, Keiko, The Lower East Nine Hostel
3 night stay”
The hostel is clean and neat, and a relaxing environment after a day on the go. The location makes it easy to take any JR line, subway or bus in/out of Kyoto city. The staff are kind and helpful. The only improvement could be made in the breakfast options - simple, toast eggs and drinks provided. But I think a nice simple Japanese-style breakfast would have been better. Overall, it's a good place to stay in Kyoto.
Thank you for staying our hostel! We really love your comments. We hope that you were able to enjoy a lot of things in Kyoto. And we are sorry we could not live up to your expectations about breakfast. Your advice is great, we will think out more ingenious one! Thanks again, and we hope to have you back here! 감사합니다. L9E is located just next to the Train Station and walking distance to Kyoto Terminal. The facilities are clean & many amenities were provided such as iron, good shower and a large dinning area. Really would recommend staying here at Kyoto!

A wonderful stay for a bargain. ”
I stayed here for 4 days when I was traveling to Kyoto. It is very close to the subway (right around the corner) and there is a bus station that picks up and can take you to the shines/gion etc. There's a 7-11 down the street. Everyone is friendly and speaks English. The hostel is also a cafe that you can enjoy food and various drinks throughout the day. They offer all the facilities you need, a common room, breakfast in the morning (egg and bread) and you can request towels if you need to. The rooms are cozy and there are bathrooms and showers on the second floor (that's where I stayed). The common room is very lively, I made some wonderful friends staying here. The showers come with body wash and shampoo. Noise was above average for a hostel. They will hold your luggage past checkout if you want to explore the city more. Thanks for the stay LE9! Pros: Good price, facilities are modern, staff are very kind, close to transportation and convenience stores. Cons: No conditioner
Dear, QUAN Thank you for kind comments. We are glad you enjoyed during stay here with us. We look forward to seeing you here again. LE9 staff
Here is very convenient which isn’t far from Kyoto station, and there is a bus stop in front of hostel! Also, you can have the breakfast in the morning! I’ll come back next time! (But the blanket they provide is a little bit thin, it was a little cold at night.)
Dear, JUNG Thank you for your kind comments. We can borrow the blanket if you need it. Please feel fee to ask us. We look forward to seeing you here again. LE9 staff
Great location and environment”
The location is great with just one station from the Kyoto train station. Surrounding environment is quiet but safe for returning to the hostel late. The internal environment is clean and comfortable, with friendly staff who are helpful in providing assistance. Would totally recommend for single-person trip!

It provides breakfast, fill up my tummy before going out. Good Location, Bus stop right in front of Lower East Nine Hostel, with 600yen bus pass, I am able to travel the whole kyoto.

The women's dorm is way too small for the number of beds in there. And impossible to try to get anything out of your luggage because there was no floor space to open up your suitcase. Also in the mornings and at night it was hard to get into the shower. The common space is nice though.
Thank you for staying at The Lower East Nine Hostel! We appreciate your time to leave your comments here. We really apologize for the inconvenience. It's one of the most crowded season in Kyoto, so we are sorry that we don't have enough facilities. Despite that, it is very thankful that you loved the common space. Thank you so much again, we hope you enjoyed traveling in Kyoto and someday come back here! Best, Keiko, The Lower East Nine Hostel
Nice place just poor layout of rooms and did not have lockers big enough to put my bag in.”
I loved the location of this place and it was clean but they shoved 12 bunks in a room that friends hostel only had eight in. The lockers were way to small to put a bag in so I had no choice but to leave my bag unsecured. There was no elevator so if you had a large bag you have to haul it up a reeeeeeally steep set of stairs. Overall the place was fine and I didn't feel unsafe. My friend stayed a half mile from me at a place that I would recommend over this one.
Thank you for staying at The Lower East Nine Hostel! We appreciate your time to leave comments here. And we really apologize for the inconvenience about our facilities. We can keep luggage or valuables of guests, but we are sorry that we was not able to change them immediately. Thank you so much again. We hope you enjoyed a lot of things in Kyoto. Best, Keiko, The Lower East Nine Hostel
