The M Bokeo Hotel
Well hotel room is excellent but TV channel doesn't work, internet hardly works, this is completely remote area, you need taxi to everywhere. We had to pay 100000 Kip( Lao currency ) to travel to city. Breakfast was below average never felt eating at all.. oily egg, stale fried rice. Staff were humble but hardly speak english. Never recommend anyone this place, felt cheated going here and plus prices drop by 100hkd. I can provide screenshot.
beautiful stories, but nothing.”
Internet? Routers everywhere, but no internet. Warm water? Promises, but only cold water. And how to find this place? It does not have an adress and there are 2 hotels with the same name. I booked for 2 nights. After one night I left because I have the strange habit to take a shower every day. And when I wanted to tell the lady why I left and wanted to ask for a refund, she startef to shout to another person. So I left. I recommanf Agoda to skip this rubbish from the website.
Awesome Hotel and super friendly ”
It's an amazing experience this time that I have spent 4 days here, and of course i would like to come again here and suggest others to choose this hotel. Pleasant, quite and nice experience. thank you.
This is a tricky hotel to review. It is perfectly located just across the border in Laos. The rooms were big and they were clean on this very large hotel. The staff tried very hard to be as helpful as possible. The drawbacks - the closest restaurant was about 6 km away as there was no food service for lunch or dinner. There was Wi-Fi but it was very unstable and there was no hot water for a shower that night - there was the next morning. The hotel has potential but needs some tweaking.
do not book here run down dump did not stay went to different hotel
Badly located few customers and run down facilities. ”
Breakfast was terrible. Location was 10 k from town with no other meals available. Free transport to town with pick up was only positive.
Practical for the border but limited interest”
No restaurant available for dinner and quite far from city.
Dear Valuable Guest, We really want to apologize to you for our restaurant is not available to serve you that time because of we are plan to fix wood balcony so only available inside restaurant to serve your breakfast, However our hotel had van for to serve you for free without charge to go town for your dinner or look around city as much as you want to. anyway we would like to thank you you for choose or hotel service. Best Regard Thalika Hotel Manager
No restaurant, no casino, spotty WiFi, completely Outdated resembling a funeral Parlor with many dusty plastic plants and flowers. The pictures are NOT accurate descriptions. I didn’t stay the night, ended up leaving to stay at another hotel.
Everything is closed.”
Good: Nice big room, clean, hot water Not so good: no restaurant (they drove us to a local place to eat), no 24 desk (staff left and we were given a WeChat number if there was a problem in the middle of the night), No WiFi at all, no shops, no casino, no massage (they would drive somebody in from town) , Basically none of the things promised actually existed, except the breakfast. The place is falling apart and for the money you could find an acceptable guest house and still have money left over for 3 meals or more. The cherry on the sundae was when we were accused of not paying despite an Agoda receipt. (Couldn't recheck my bank account due to the lack of Internet ANYWHERE in the hotel.) The place could be great but it's crumbling.
Beautiful property near the border”
There was no swimming pool, but the staff couldn’t be nicer and the hotel shuttle took us everywhere.
Cancelled on us the day before”
They cancelled the day before we arrived and we were on a boat on the Mekong! NOt happy
Nearly vacant "palace"”
Interesting place, but no-one else seemed to be staying there. Breakfast was mediocre. Location was very far from the town, but close to the border. Rooms were very large and were clean, but it was overall just a strange place.
Just for the fun of it”
Stay one night in this hotel. Hic-up at check in. They did not receive information about my booking. Booking trough agoda, but agoda uses bookings.com or something like that. Payment also had to be made to the hotel. Lucky I was able to retrieve the receipt to secure the rate for the rooms. Room was large and clean. But there seem to be thin slits of light creeping through what I believe to be cracks in the door. Anyway, stay was comfortable. Breakfast selection from a choice of 6 sets. From porridge to ABF. It is away from town, so think twice if you do not have your own transport.
Great hotel next to the huay xai border”
The hotel is located slightly up the hill as soon as you reach the laos border. As others have mentioned the hotel was pretty much empty. The hotel is painted completely in gold but everything was of high quality and the bedrooms are huge. The beds wore by far the comfiest I've stayed in se Asia. I get the impression that the hotel was intended to be a luxury accommodation as there is a big casino just across the road but for some reason (probably as it's a quiet border town) it has never taken off. The hotel is about 10 mins drive away from the town centre but the hotel provided a free shuttle bus service there and back. After seeing other hotels and backpackers in Huay Xai, this place was by far the best (albeit a bit strange due to the lack of guests) we paid roughly £20 a night. In London the same room would be £150+
great backpackers place if you can afford it and its bloody cheap so you can
When we first rolled up to the place it was breathtaking. A beautiful hilltop view overlooking the river with a landscaped courtyard and fountain and a huge glass-walled gift shop. The rooms were large and ornate (gaudy really). Really cool. The problem was we were the only guests there! The kitchen didn't have staff and was not offering food. The front desk bell boy was polite but could not communicate in English and didn't know how to operate the credit card machine when I paid for the room. What saved us was this Korean gentleman who spoke English and claimed to live there (I suspect he was part owner of the place by the way he treated us). Interesting stay but we spent our next night in town close to all the shops and restaraunts.
"golden hotel" at a very distant location”
very peculiar, large hotel, all in golden colour. i think we were the only guests in he hotel. spacious, clean rooms, facilities all okay. unfortunately the hotel is about 10 km away from the center of huang xay, in total isolation, no restaurants, coffes or shops around. to compensate for, manager provided transportation to the center, the return by taxi at night time was however not easy to arrange. breakfast rather basic. good support by the korean manager (fluent in english, unlike e staadf of the gotel) of the duty free shop that is currentsl built up in the hotel.
On Golden Pond”
A highlight of our trip. Although the hotel is somewhat off on its own, the hotel kindly provided gratis their van for us to dine in the nearby town. Although some might call the decor garish, we saw it as a " unique treasure". Considering the modest level of competition in the area's hotels, it was a great choice.
They call them self 5 star. it was a 3 star with a”
The room was OK but the restaurant was terrible. They had nothing and I wont bother to come back again The whole hotel was painted in gold and that should have been an alarm.
