The repurposed container van concept is beautiful. Breakfast needs work”
We were a group of 4 for my first trip to Davao and this hotel's modern design of repurposed container vans quickly caught my eyes. The hotel is located in a mixed neighborhood, somewhat away from most touristy areas, although G Mall and Abreeza Mall are less than 1.5km away. There are plenty of seating areas on the upper areas, but these are open air, therefore, weather-dependent. The quad room is spacious and has a good mount of storage space, between the wardrobe and the TV cabinet. The room has 2 queen size beds, which are of decent firmness... so quad in this sense means shared sleeping for 2 people. The 4-person room also comes with breakfast, but only for 2. Breakfast for the other 2 would mean paying PHP350 per person per day. We were disappointed with breakfast and skipped it on the 2nd and 3rd days of our stay. The front desk staff were friendly. However, I wished they were more equipped to give information on what Davao had to offer and where to go.
Greetings Mr. Ian, Thank you for choosing the Madeline, we appreciate you taking the time share your experience with us, and trust me that your suggestions will be taken and considered. I'd just like to clarify that breakfast is P300/pax not P350. I had to double check your order slip and payment records to make that you were not charged P350 by mistake, but it all shows charge for breakfast as P300/pax. We do hope you visit us again in the future!
Hip new hotel with interesting concept”
Hip new hotel with interesting concept of container van, and with above minimum amenities. Rooms are spacious, restaurant at lobby and roofdeck level with good food. Location is near downtown and the restaurant circle in F. Torres Streets and Circumferential Road. Great value for money!
Greetings from the Madeline, We love reading that you had an enjoyable stay with us!
Big and Clean”
Pros Big, nice rooms, clean hotel with restaurant on top, value for money if booked in Agoda. Friendly staff. Cons: Breakfast is just so so. Also leaving your luggage is not so safe. I left my luggage in the front desk, it was taken by other guest because there is no label. It something they can improve. Overall very nice and new.
Hi Ms. Kate, Thank you for taking the time to review your stay! We are glad you liked the property, though I apologise for the inconvenience caused when another guest took your box, we are glad we were able to track the guest and get it back from the airport, it just would have been better it it could have been avoided. You are absolutely right, labelling is necessary and will be implemented so this incident will not happen again to any other of our valued guests. We appreciate your understanding, and I once again apologise for the incident. I do hope you visit us again in the future!
Clean room, nice and firm mattress. One thing that needs improvement is the quality of the towels”
Towels are yellowish in color and doesn’t seemed to be washed properly And housekeeping should scrub the bath tiles to remove stains and prevent them from getting molds and mildew. Best to improve on those 2 things
Greetings from the Madeline, We are are happy you enjoyed our beds! The towels are in the process of being changed, unfortunately the long term use of bleach and other cleaning/stain removal agents has turned them yellow instead of their original white colour. Soon there will be brand new white towels available. I hope you visit us again soon.
Pros - very clean, huge rooms, comfy pillows and sheets. Breakfast is okay (its understandable for the price of the room). Highly recommended. Will be back in the future. I hope they can maintain it.
Greetings from the Madeline! We are so glad to ready you enjoyed your stay with us! we appreciate the positive feedback, and definitely look forward to welcoming you again in the near future.
Great staff, clean rooms”
Pros: clean, good breakfast, helpful staff, good size room complete with room necessities. If you are clean freak like me - you should consider this hotel. Cons: Noise of cars ( but slowly dies down at night ) however people - visitors of registered guest were chitchatting loudly up until past midnight at the hallway like they are having a party.
Hi Ms. Imelda, Thank you for choosing our property for you stay, we are beyond glad that you had a clean and comfortable stay with us, minus the noise.... I understand it is a nuisance to have your rest disturbed at random hours of the night/morning. If and when, I hope you do, you come back to stay with us feel free to call the front desk so that they can address any issues on the spot to ensure your stay is even more comfortable and enjoyable. Looking forward to welcoming you again in the near future!
Unique boutique hotel”
We had a wonderful stay at the madeline. The room was very spacious and you'll never think it is out of container vans. The concept is great and there were great artwork on the display throughout the hotel. Our room was roadside but we were never bothered by the noise outside, it felt like it was sound proof. I cannot overemphasize the room size but it was really huge! Staff at the reception needs to pay more attention to guests though. I was in line to checkout but no one bothered until after they have taken their photo with an "artista" who has just checked in. Breakfast needs improvement though. It was buffet on our stay and there were only 2 staff assigned each time we were there. Refill was slow and there was not much of a choice for breakfast but food can fill your tummies to last you until your next meal. Overall, good value for the money!
Greetings from the Madeline! Let me thank you for your comments, we take reviews to heart and use them to improve. It is a shame that you were not tended to, all guests are our priority, and I will make sure to address this immediately. I am happy to learn you enjoyed the spacious room and got some restful sleep! Regarding the breakfast, it is definitely something we've tried to change, adjust, and tweak, but unfortunately we haven't found THE ONE breakfast spread that will not be wasteful (we don't want wasting food when there are so many hunger issues in this world), and that has the right variety for all our local/domestic and international guests. We will continue to work on this, and will address the speed and frequency of the food refill. With all that said, we do love hearing that the quantity was good and filled your tummies, a happy tummy can make the rest of the day better. We hope to have you stay with us again in the near future!
Nice boutique hotel in Davao”
The hotel has a unique design.. it's built using cargo container vans as part of the building structure. But you will be surprised on how the architect designed it. Very clean, spacious and nice interiors .... A bit lacking in sound proofing though... Hallways and lobby are adorned with paintings for sale. Will book again for my next future stay in Davao.
Hi, thank you for staying with us! We are indeed proud of the design, use of containers, and paintings around the property, glad you liked and enjoyed it! The noise, we agree, can some times be heard from certain areas of the hotel. The container vans can produce an echo that we can not stop/control. We've tried, I promise. We loved serving you, and hope to have you stay with us again!
Thank you madeline for accommodating our family. We had a great experience at your hotel. Staff were very helpful and courteous. They even allowed us to check in early after a long travel. Location is very convenient and food is excellent. Rooms are big emough and very tidy. Thank you so much an excellent service. Highly recommended.
Hi Ms. Mariecar, greetings from the Madeline! We are glad you had an enjoyable stay, we loved having you and your family stay with us. Looking forward to seeing you again in the near future!
Stay was okay. Location was great. There 2 beds inside our room, one queen and one single. Perfect for families with children or a child in my case. Breakfast buffet was, however, not good.
Dear Ms. Trisha, Thank you for taking the time to review your stay in the Madeline, we are glad you found the room comfortable for you and your family. We appreciate the comment regarding the breakfast, it has been subject of both criticism and praise since we opened, while we continue to change it, and while we are able to please some we have unfortunately failed at finding that sweet spot that makes our breakfast agreeable to everyone. We continue to work on finding the winner breakfast. Regardless of breakfast, I do hope you visit us again in the near future!
My first time stay at The Madeline Boutique Hotel and Suites”
Strongest points 1 - large, clean rooms complete with complete amenities 2 - buffet breakfast 3 - accommodating staff 4 - good internet connection Area for improvement 1 - initially, the property cannot be located by Waze 2 - trying to contact the property thru their registered mobile phone but nobody answering Will definitely stay in this hotel on my succeeding trips to Davao. Have already recommended to friends.
Greetings from the Madeline! From everyone at the Madeline, I would like to thank you for choosing the Madeline. It always makes us giddy reading than our guests had a positive experience staying with us. We will hopefully be found on waze soon! it has definitely been a slow process being showed (correctly) in maps. Regarding the phone, I apologise for the inconvenience, while I don't excuse them, I do know the front desk can get a little hectic from time to time. We will continue to work on ways that will not compromise our guests' experience. We are looking forward to have you and your friends stay with us in the near future!
Container Hotel ”
Literally rooms are made of shipping containers so width is about 2.5 meters and length of a full 40feet container problem is noise can hear even if someone walking outside or staff using walkitalki , sound of upstairs aircon and staff are not professional specially front desk usually busy on there mobile phones , rooms are clean towels and bed sheets are clean and new, big tv but WiFi is slow in some parts of room and sometime just gone , restaurant staff is ok .
Greetings from the Madeline! Thank you for staying with us and for taking the time to review your experience. We understand that noise can be an issue, since sound tends to echo due to the containers. Regarding the front desk being on their phones, we hear you loud and clear, and agree with you. We have decided to enforce a no personal cellphone during work hours policy. About the internet, unfortunately it is completely out of our control, internet in Davao is notoriously unreliable, and we have our good days and bad days dealing with it. Once again, we thank you for staying with us, and for taking the time to share your experience with us. We hope you visit us again in the near future.
The staff especially the guard, housekeeping and receptionist were all helpful, friendly and courteous. All smile to help you so you can enjoy your stay with their hotel. Though the food served in buffet breakfast is not that appetizing and few options. Maybe they should improve on that aspect. Over, all I enjoyed my stay. Thank you Madeline staff.
Greetings from the Madeline! It is our pleasure to serve you, we are glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Thank you for commenting on the breakfast, feel free to email us with your suggestions on how to make the breakfast better, we would highly appreciate it. Hope to have you stay with us in the near future!
first trip to davao”
new boutique hotel, very clean and spacious, we got 2 king bed! very clean and furniture are just awesomely new, breakfast buffet is great too for the price. just a downside, our room on the 2nd floor is situated near the road which is a bit busy one so the noise from passing vehicles is a bit irritating specially in the morning, better get a room at the back part.
Greetings from the Madeline! Thank you for staying with us, we are glad you've enjoyed your stay at the Madeline! Sorry, about the vehicle noises in the morning, the street in front of the hotel can get busy sometimes, especially in the morning at between 6pm and 8pm. We hope you stay with us again in the near future! Kind regards, Isi Arredondo
Great but was not exceptional”
We stayed at the Hotel for 5D4N. We were lucky I was able to get it at discounted price through agoda. Both the exterior and interior designs of the Hotel were cool. It was amazing to see the paintings of local artists displayed on the walls and plus the fact the Hotel was made from combination of concrete and stacked container vans. Service and hospitality were fine. But the cons are: 1. it is not sound proof, we hear rumbling of chairs from roof deck (we stayed at 3rd floor), 2. restaurant failed my expectations. Imagine being served with a burnt rice after waiting for more than 30 minutes and we were all hungry and yet we were still charged with service charge. Food costs are bit pricey.
Hi Ms. kathryn, We appreciate you taking the time to review your stay with us. We're glad you liked the hotel, but i'm sorry about the incident with the burnt rice, nobody appreciates burnt food, we understand. I wish this issue would've been raised so we could've addressed it properly. If you stay with us next time (I hope you do), I promise you rice cooked to perfection. Hope to see you again! -Isi Arredondo
Davao is such a wonderful and orderly place. Safe to walk around day & night. People are honest. Clean environment. Smoke free zone and has alcohol consumption time restriction (to 12 or 1am). Hotel Pros: Everything under the sun. Top place. Affordable. Hospitable staff. Truly admire the concept of this hotel. Lots of beautiful paintings on site. Bed sheets and pillows are so comfy and excellent grade. Roof top bar/resto is a great area to chillax. Cons: Free breakfast is only for two, additional is P300 per person. Not really an issue just be mindful when booking for over 2ppl. Overall we will definitely come back in our next trip to the Philippines. We would consider retiring in Davao too!
Warm greetings from the Madeline! We love reading reviews like yours, knowing that you love our city and property makes our hearts happy. The pillows and beds are 2 of our guests' favourites, we are glad you also found them comfortable. Regarding the breakfast, it is stated when you book that the rate booked includes breakfast for 2 persons. We hope you visit us again soon! Kind regards, Isi Arredondo
This is still a very new little hotel away from the usual sites of Davao although still a few minutes from the malls and shopping centers. The premium deluxe room I was staying at is huge with 2 queen-sized beds that look and feel larger than the usual which is really nice. It has a large closet and a bathroom which, although not quite spacious, but feels easy to move about. The breakfast is quite limited but otherwise alright considering the price. The male server on November 15 was very courteous, and helpful. I am sorry I forgot to get his name. I already booked a similar room for me and my wife for our short vacation in Davao this December.
Mr. Joel, Greetings from the Madeline Boutique Hotel and Suites! Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are beyond touched by your kind words. Yes, the bathroom is quite small when compared to the size of the room, and we're glad it didn't affect the quality of your stay with us and your experience. We would love to know which waiter you are referring to so we can tell him about your kind words, but perhaps you'll run into again in your next visit. We'll be waiting for you at the Madeline! Kind regards, Isi Arredondo
Stayed here for 3 nights and its the almost perfect. The hotel is not on the main road but its not hard to get a cab in Davao so thats ok. Stay was great but the only thing I could think for improvement was to have a heater in the shower :) Aside from that, this hotel is perfect. Chorizo for breakfast was the best.
Hi, Ms. Jessica, Greetings from the Madeline Boutique Hotel and Suites! We appreciate you taking the time to review your stay with us. We are happy you enjoyed our little property, and that you loved the chorizo for breakfast! come back, there's plenty of chorizo here! Regarding the water heater, all showers do have hot water, i'm sorry you didn't get any, next time you visit us, we'll make sure you get your well deserved hot shower. Kind regards, Isi Arredondo
Clean, spacious and modern room. Staff are all courteous, accommodating and helpful. Food (buffet) are all good from breakfast to merienda. All Filipino foods. My two nights stay was all good and I can't say any issues in this hotel. Keep up the good work and the hospitality. Highly recommended!
Greetings from the Madeline Boutique Hotel and Suites! Thank you for choosing to stay with us, and thank you for taking the time to write a review, we are truly pleased to know you enjoyed your stay with us. Hope you visit us again in the near future! Kind regards, Isi Arredondo
Good value for money”
The hotel had a great discounted price offer. At 2600++ per night with 2 queen beds, this was the cheapest room rate offer. However, be aware that the checkout time is at 12noon. If one goes beyond the time, they will charge Php300 per hour. Cleanliness was good, but sometimes have to be reminded of putting in more tissues. No durians allowed anywhere in the hotel or a Php5000 penalty shall be imposed. Location is near Victoria Plaza mall and 10mins away by cab from Abreeza which is about less than Php70 without traffic. Mercury Drug convenience is also nearby. However, mostly need a tricycle or cab to get around from here. Facilities were pretty basic. Their rooftop bar was pretty nice! Rooms facing street are quite noisy since made out of containers. Should have made a way to sound proof. Get rooms which are more facing the back side, for a quieter stay. Balcony doors should also have curtain so the first dusk of morning light does not try to awaken those who’d like to sleep more during the day. The servers and waiters at the restaurant at the ground floor and rooftop bar were great! They also have the best pineapples and bananas for breakfast! The receptionists and their manager were not that forgiving about late checkout times. Senior discount will not apply if promo hotel price is chosen, as well as with late checkout charges.
Hi, greetings from the Madeline! Thank you for taking the time to share your experience staying with us, we are glad you enjoyed your stay, and loved the bananas and pineapples! Late check-out is subject to room availability, we are unable to grant late check-out if there are guests checking in after your departure. Doing so would mean making the next customer wait, which would not be fair. We apply standard universal check-in and check-out times, and can be flexible allowing early check-in and late check-out given that the room is available for the day. We do understand the noise from the street can be bothersome at times, unfortunately sound echoes a bit because as you correctly said, the hotel was built using container vans. We will take into consideration the drapes/curtains for the balcony door, can imagine it may be nuisance to many being woke up by sunlight when perhaps you want to sleep in a little longer. Hope to have you stay with us again in the future!
