This is not a good place for stay even single night. Because, at night time there are noise, shouting and vehicle noise, loading and unloading etc. The staff (Mohammad) was very bad to me. His behaviour is not a professional receptionist. I ask him who is you boss he told me i am boss but I can't believe it. If he is boss , he should not do such kind of behaviour. I ask him there are no towel he said that you have pay for towel, I said it is terrible because every one provide towel whatever the rating of the hotel. Then he told me if you don't like you go (night 10pm). I said I have paid who will pay back me. He said did you pay me? I said I booked via agoda then he said go to agoda. His body language and attitude was so bad. There was no wifi, no cupboard, or hanger in the room. Single room does not have kettle/glass for drinking water. I never had such a horrible experience in the past. I hope agoda should take some steps to safe its reputation. Please be careful before you book
Worst, filthiest, most dreadful place I’ve ever stayed in”
Good location. And the price (£35/night, but I’ve seen this “hotel” advertised for far more on other platforms) was the lowest I could find in Manchester, which is incredible in itself. But that’s the only nice things I can say about this place. It’s FILTHY. It’s badly run down. Disgusting toilet full of urine and fæces marks that hasn’t been cleaned for a week. Dreadful carpet that’s been there for decades and is impregnated with filth. Shower that barely trickles down water, so slowly that filling up a bottle would take a few minutes. Single glazed windows that don’t close. Reception that closes at 10pm (if you need to arrive later, that will be £10). Towels not invoked — there is a “low charge” of £1 per towel (I complained that this was not mentioned so they relented and gave it to me for free as though it was a favour). I had read the bad reviews and braced for the worst. The reality was worse. This place ought to be shut down. Not fit for human use.
Don’t get ripped off and become the next victim. Avoid this hotel no matter how cheap the deal is.”
I made a booking on the Merchants Hotel via Agoda.com for a one-night stay from 14th July 2019 to 15th July 2019. When I made the reservation on Agoda.com, I left a remark about the arrival time between 1.00am to 2.00am. I did not receive any comment on whether they do not welcome late customers or there will be extra charge after the check-in time. The information about the extra charge was neither stated on the Merchants Hotel’s website nor on agoda.com. On the 15th July 2019 (Sunday) around 2am, I arrived at the Manchester Airport due to the flight delay, which was supposed to be due at 00.45am. I took a taxi to the Merchants Hotel right after that. I was physically and mentally exhausted and I just wanted a rest. By the time I got to the Merchants Hotel, it was 2.36am. The main door was locked, so I rang the buzzer for 15 minutes, no-one came down. I then rang the number provided on the door, no-one answered my calls. A man came down eventually. He was very rude and started to bl
Clean, cosy and central”
Reading the previous review we were a bit scared, the hotel was clean and the room was cozy. The bathroom and toilet were really clean. The hotel is central, 10 min walk to go to the main thing to see in manchester. Really quiet during night.
Very bad hotel with 4 star hotel cost as we book last minutes. Will not go there any more. ”
The windows cannot locked. The toilet blind is not function properly which outsider can easily see through, reported to reception but no action. I need to use towel to cover the windows then. The window can open easily & I need to locked the windows before sleep & cause the room very hot at night. Very bad experiences hotel & will never go again !
Value for Money”
I booked for a double room attached with bathroom in it. Shower water are low pressure. Towel are not provided. £1 will be charged for it.
location is good but there has a pub nearby too noise at night time”
We stay there for 1 night on Saturday, however, there was lots of people in down stair. We came for check in very late. Some of people outside the hotel were drunk. My friend felt very scared. If you travel alone, be careful. As we change our schedule and stay 1 more night on Sunday. However, we checked out and checked in again. They gave us another room. However, the boiler in our room was out of work, we need to go out for public area to use the shower room. We felt some disappointed because we paid for en-suite. We required to change another room but they haven't help us to change it.
Great budget stay”
You get what you pay for. Fantastic location right in trhe city centre. I was staying to attend an exam the next day and it was quiet so no problem getting to sleep. Bed was comfortable and warm. The rooms are basic, no towels or toiletries or wardrobe, ust a sink and a shared toilet, which I had no problems getting access to at any time. I also paid for 5he shower upgrade. I didn't actually use it so cant comment on it. The price I paid was significantly lower than anywhere else even near Manchester. Basic yes, but value for money was there. Ideal for a bed for the night.
A really awful hotel. Terrible facilities, poorly maintained and unpleasant to be in. Price reflects the hotel.
Rented a room and left on the street.”
Got a nice cheap room. Been here before and expected basic but clean. Not expecting frills but was expecting a room. Got damp and mould in a box onstead. Told by staff the room should not have been rented and then left on own to find alternative accommodation by uninterested staff. So 200 miles to be left on the street in central manchester on a Saturday night; not what i would descrobe as customer service.
Worst hotel ever”
This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed and I wish I have never booked this hotel for my night in Manchester. I can see red, brown bed bugs crawling everywhere on bedsheet, pillow and duvet. I couldn’t sleep and ended it up sitting on the table (the only thing in the room that is non-fabric) for whole night. I will never ever ever stay in this hotel again. My worst nightmare!
First impression was awful. Outside - old building with untidy street with huge rubbish bins by the entrance door. Inside - old stained carpet on the staircase. Room - no towels, no table, no wardrobe, no place to keep the bag or hang clothes, and old Victorian window without handles. I thought there were no toilet and shower, which I learnt later that the shared toilet and shower were located along the corridor.
Is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in, in fact I did not stay in it as it Didn’t look like it is”
Is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in, in fact I did not stay in it as it Didn’t look like it is Habitable for a human being. I seriously think any hotel website should stop letting this horrible place to advertise there and to cause any more pain’s to people
Comfortable bed and very clean.”
Location is excellent as is value for money. My single room was missing a kettle and I couldn't change the channel on the TV but I was out exploring Manchester all day so didn't care. The reception staff very polite and professional.
Will not stay here again”
We got a double room with shower. No toilet in the room and no extractor from the shower... The room was cold, the heater was on for few minutes then become cold all night. We have got a portable heater from the reception, made little difference, as couldn't close the window. As the hotel in the centre of Manchester, with the window unable to close, all night very noisy. We had to ask towels, by default not included. The toilet was shared in the floor. Breakfast was included in out package, only option is cereals and biscuits, and no place to eat, only in the room. Probably we have paid more than the value of all contents of the room together. Very disappointing. Will not stay here again. Not recommended.
Very unprofessional staff”
They don’t know what hospitality means
First impression was what a dump of a place. On entering room there was faulty taps, broken aerial stuffed behind the radiator so no t.v and curtains came off the rail with rail attached. Reported to possible management who eventually 2 days later moved me from room 2 to room three with ensuite bathroom and working t.v. so thanks for that. Other issues were towel I had travelled with went missing and not left in previous room before that excuse is given. Earphones left in room where I was in on first 2 nights were broke upon return until I repaired. Jersey was burned surprisingly on 2nd night whilst out of room mysteriously. Apart from that the last 2 nights good. Apart from the lane were urinating and all sorts was going on and groups of what was told to me was drug dealing by other hotel users and passers by. Wouldn't stay there again.
1 Night stay”
The bed was fairly nobly as in you could feel the springs when you moved across the bed but once you lay down it was fairly comfortable. The Bed frame was a bit wobbly on my opinion but apart from that it was alright :). As in terms of cleanliness the rooms sink was spotless and the coffee cups and so forth were in a clean orderly manner. The only down side was that they had missed a piece of a broken brown glass bottle which is understandable as it did blend in very well with the carpet colouring. I think i was lucky as i tend to wear socks which gave me extra protection from any sharpness of the glass. The two main things that disappointed me was was the lack of sufficient toilet roll in the early morning which caused us to to not have any, It was a good thing that i had packed wipes this time as they had to be used in stead as i couldn't wait till 9 am when the office opened downstairs. The other thing that was a shame was the loudness early in the morning due to opening shops.
Location okay for the station and meeting friends but it's in an area that felt unsafe especially at night. Broken windows, door didn't lock properly. Tv screen had been smashed and the remote only controlled turning it on/off. No lock on the bathroom door and the bathroom was dirty, the shower also didn't work properly but there was no one on reception between 10pm and 9am for us to talk to. There was a number to call but we wanted to shower and leave as soon as possible. Definitely NOT worth £100 for the night.
Not very happy with our stay atal. ”
Would not stay here again as me and my partner stayed 1st march and we had no tv that worked no towels in our room no toilet no shower no nothin can not belive it tbh. I paid £41 was so not woth a penny. We had to go down the corridor to use the toilet and then to top it off at 4am there was the most horrendous racket outside our window a morrisons delivery driver pushing metal trollys up and down iv never in all my life herd anythin like it that went on from 4am till 9am was so angry we had no sleep what so ever then had to be ouy by 11 am we was so very tired. And when we mentioned how bad it was all we got was sorry about tht no money back no nothin im still very angry now.
