The Best Hotel we've ever been to”
The Oberoi Amarvilas Agra Hotel is a hotel for the royalty. Warm welcomes, attention to detail, with staff trained to please the guests. We booked at the cheapest possible rate but we were upgraded to a suite - for free! The general manager personally welcomed us and this is something we've never experienced before! The Taj Mahal is basically a short walk away and all the rooms have a perfect view of the Taj Mahal. The view at the suite is even better as it is on the top floor. The food is excellent whether you choose the Indian restaurant Esphahan or the Bellevue, you'll never be disappointed. We stayed during the lean season and on our first day, we felt that we own the entire property - swimming pool all by ourselves, empty gyms, sparsely filled restaurants! Our experience with Oberoi Amarvilas Agra is something that we will never ever forget!
Truly a 5-star hotel”
Overall, the experience at Oberoi Amarvilas was great. We had arrived quite late via the India railway, and did not arrange for transfer to the hotel prior, as we thought we could make our way to the hotel ourselves. However, the staff at the railway station informed us that cabs can only stop outside the hotel, which means we would still have to walk another 500m. So, we called the hotel, and they arranged for transport to bring us to the hotel within 30min. Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly, and showed to our room, which was luxurious. Food from the room service was of standard. The Taj Mahal, which was our main destination in Agra, was visible from the hotel room. To visit the Taj, a complimentary buggy ride was provided both to and fro the hotel. The hotel staff were friendly & helpful throughout our stay. Indeed worthy of a 5-star hotel.
Live in a palace in Agra~”
i didn't expect oberoi in taj to be this good! why you should stay overnight in agra at oberoi: - the room is simply amazing! we love the turqouise theme that donned most of the finishings (i am not sure if they change the color theme every now and then?) the bedding is very comfortable and the pillow menu is amazing~ the bathroom is clean and luxurious, though it could have been bigger. the toileteries are of high quality as well- organic forest essential brand- prob the l'ocitane of india! - all the staff we encountered seemed sincerely helpful and friendly... i think they smiled from the bottom of their hearts, or maybe they hire really good actors? :p (from the front desk, to the waiters in restaurant). the butler service is great although we don't really use it. plus, the staff never asked for tips or hinted for it... trust me, staff in other hotels in india aren't like this! i stayed at taj mahal in mumbai and o boy, all the staff will hassle u for tips tips tips... - the lobby design is pure grandeur... we get to drink this delicious welcome drinks at a lounge facing the beautiful taj mahal whilst checking in~ - amazing restaurants! too bad the buffet restaurant was being renovated when we're there (june 2012) but the restaurant next door called espahan offers delicious meals though at a slightly higher price. - this hotel is walkable to taj mahal! this is great because taj mahal is most beautiful during sunrise~ *i will stay at oberoi agra again even if i have to pay an extra 100bucks... it's that good!
An amazing hotel experience”
We stayed one night in the Oberoi Amarvilas in Agra and wished we could have stayed longer. From the moment we arrived we were treated like royalty, nothing was too much trouble for the staff and at the same time they were not pushy. The hotel itself is incredibly beautiful with a stunning entrance and gorgeous gardens and pool. We had a delicious evening meal in the restaurant, where the staff were happy to split a large meal between our children as they were not very hungry. In the morning we fancied breakfast on our balcony, which was promptly organised with no fuss. We had such a fantastic time at this hotel that even my extremely fussy husband could find nothing to complain about - and that's saying something!
As a first timer to India and Taj Mahal, it was the best decision to stay in Agra and Oberoi Amarvilas Hotel. Location of hotel is fantastic and the staff are really helpful and friendly. The room is great and the view was fantastic
Wonderful! Don't stay anywhere else!”
I have never stayed at such a wonderful hotel. The service is exceptional. The whole staff goes above and beyond to meet your every need. Poolside service, carrying over your shoes, allowing a late check out, arranging a golf cart and tour guide to the Taj Mahal and on and on. The grounds are beautiful, the gardens are exceptional, the rooms are designed perfectly with soft beds, fresh mango snacks and a deep tub. Our view of the Taj from our room was amazing. The pool was huge and peaceful. We ate breakfast and dinner in the hotel. The dinner was delicious and they let us sit in another dining room because there was a crying baby in the other. They brought us a complimentary, delicious dessert. I can’t say enough wonderful things about this hotel. It is worth every penny. Enjoy the Taj Mahal and spend the rest of your time in Agra at the Oberoi!
A magical weekend in Agra”
The check in process was a breeze and very delightful especially after the 5 hours journey from Delhi. The pool was wonderful and I was given small bottle of sunscreen, bookmark and bottle of drinking water with Martini glass and frozen fruit cubes, a very nice gesture. Overall, the Oberoi Amarvilas has lived up to its name and I was more than satisfied with my stay there.
Spectacular Hotel setting and service ”
This is a unique hotel offering a complete oasis of calm and beauty in Agra, not a city noted for its beauty or organisation! the Taj Mahal peeps out from behind trees and is visible from most windows of the hotel. Many of the excellently appointed and furnished bedrooms have spacious balconies. One can sit with a glass of wine in the setting sun and watch the colours of the Taj change before your eyes. Or go downstairs to the deep blue pool and be pampered by attentive staff who look after your every need. The Oberoi staff are a unique team who greet you like an old friend after your day out at the Taj, they organise the tickets for you, a buggy to the Taj( a mere half kilometre away)and soothe you with coffee and fresh towels on your return. The resturant Esphan serves Indian food spicy or not according to your taste. An extraordinary and relaxing experience. this counts as a highlight of our tour in India.
The only place to stay in Agra”
We stayed in the Oberoi Rajvilas in Jaipur a few days prior and absolutely loved it. Oberoi Amarvilas was just as spectacular especially because we had the amazing view of the Taj Mahal right from our balcony. You are transported to another world when you enter the Oberoi!
I highly recommend stay at The Oberoi Amarvilas! Everything was perfect! The staff was lovely! They were so helpful on many different occasions. The room was stunning and every room really does have a view of the Taj Mahal. Without a doubt worth the splurge!!
Beautiful view of the Taj Mahal”
We had a fantastic one night stay at Amarvilas. The transportation to the Taj Mahal was quick and convenient. The staff at the hotel, particularly the manager, Shivanti Bharti, were amazing. This hotel is a gem, truly beautiful and with fabulous views of the Taj Mahal from every room. An added bonus is the delicious food. The buffet breakfast was sumptuous and the dinner we had in the continental restaurant (I had a delicate, superb vegetable lasagna) was one of the best non-Indian dinners we had in India. We will definitely return.
The most beautiful hotel with the best service...”
This was the best hotel experience my husband and i have had. It was near the Taj and the hotel was beautiful but what made our stay amazing was the excellent service we've received. We felt like royalty. Everything was done with no hassle, the tour guide for Taj, the tickets, our meals....everything. Everyone was very attentive. You go to the pool and they give you water, cold towels, lotion, towels...everything you will need without asking. I asked for masala chai and I was given a pot and some excellent pastries courtesy of the hotel. All the coffee and masala chai I ordered were all courtesy of the hotel. Our dinner at Esphahan was excellent! Our waiter gave the best recommendations and was always there to explain how the traditional indian meal was supposed to be eaten. He knew when to give us tidbits about india, the restaurants' name etc and when to leave us to enjoy our food. All this plus the beauty of the hotel and the Taj Mahal made our experience the best we've ever had. We will now always check for an Oberoi hotel when we travel overseas.
Amazing view of the Taj Mahal”
The pool looked stunning on the pictures - unfortunately it was closed and the offer was to bus you to a nearby hotel, obviously this was no where near as nice as the pool at the Oberoi was meant to be. Really think that for the price of the hotel - even with Agoda's good prices - the pool should have been open or the price should have been less or a meal added to make up for this. Also what is it with really expensive hotels charging for wifi when you can go to a 20 pound a night place and be given this service for free -you pay 5 star but then you have to pay for wifi?!
We stayed 2 nights in the hotel. The most important reason for picking this hotel is the location. It is located about 600 meters from the Taj Mahal and most (if not all) rooms have a stunning view of this world wonder. The rooms are spacious and very clean and hotel staff is helpful and very well communicative as may be expected in a hotel of this class. The restaurants offer excellent food quality, both international and Indian cuisine. The second day we spend hanging around the pool until our return flight from Delhi. Pool staff will make sure that you are in good hands, providing cooling drinks, cooling towels and sun lotion. Overall staying in the hotel was an excellent experience and when we ever return to Agra, this will be the place to stay.
Nice Hotel can see the taj mahal from any room”
they have nice pools and everything, but the pool was under maintenance! what a shame. but in general, it is a nice hotel. there is nothing much to see in agra, just taj mahal and agra fort really. so i wont blame the hotel itself. room service is not bad but the packed lunch is not as good as i thought. it is not cheap either. but anyway, it is a nice hotel and i do recommend you to stay if you want to stay in agra for a night to prepare for an early to the taj mahal the next day.
Beautiful hotel with spectacular views”
We were very well looked after by the team at The Oberoi. The service was charming without being over the top. The rooms were lovely with great views of the Taj. The guide organised for us by the hotel was well informed. The pool was wonderful. Overall The Oberoi was a real sanctuary, where we could really relax at the end of a busy trip to Northern India.
Fantastic Gateway to the Taj Mahal”
ideal hotel to stay in for easy access to the taj and a luxurious retreat. we visited the taj early morning, returned for breakfast and then headed off to the agra fort. our guide booked through the hotel was superb - very knowledgeable and lovely manner - not at all like the previous tour guides we had experienced. in the afternoon we retunred to chill at the pool and were served lovely poolside snacks complete with free sunscreen and ultra comfortable sunbeds. we ate at both restaurants. the western one is ok but not great; the indian one was great and also provided entertainment. the bar is somewhat lacking in atmosphere and far too brightly lit but it makes up for any shortfalls with its friendly staff who are eager to serve. if you want easy close access to the taj and a luxurious night or two off the dusty golden triangle hgihway then this is it.
Nice hotel, Great location, but ....”
We had a very nice stay at the Oberoi Amarvillas Agra. The big attraction here is having a view facing the Taj Mahal. Rooms are a good size. Staff are very friendly, all be it slow sometimes (though this is common through out India). The main down side to this hotel is that it really lacks ambience.
Incredible Indian Hospitality at its Best!”
This is a fabulous hotel - truly world class. We had an incredible time. The manager went out of his way to ensure our 7 year old was kept occupied with extra classes including cookie baking and mocktail making to break up the sightseeing. He loved them! Many of the rooms look out onto the Taj Mahal (ours did) - what a treat and the hotel represents Indian hospitality at its very best. We were there for 3 nights and 4 days and not bored for a second. It was an amazing experience - 100% recommended. There is nowhere else even close to stay at, in Agra.
The best position of the hotels near Taj Mahal”
We stayed one night in order to be able to see Taj Mahal both at sun-rise and sun-down. Hotel is wonderful in all aspects; service, rooms, restaurant etc. We had a good view of Taj Mahal from our room on 4th floor. Be aware of Agra - a terrible town that you should avoid. Dirty, poor, awful traffic etc. Agra Fort is interesting with a good view of Taj Mahal.
