Pure Colonial Elegance”
Perfect location, friendly and efficient staff, sumptuous linens and to die for views. Luxury hotels always come with risk when you travel with a toddler - you are either welcomed and comfortable or made to feel like a smudge on their perfection. I’m pleased to say Oyster Box is most definitely the former! We were travelling with my mother and without requesting it, we were given rooms next door to each other which was thoughtful. The staff from the security at the gatehouse, to front door and front desk staff and all the wonderful serving staff at the restaurant pool were friendly, engaging with my daughter and always helpful. Whilst we couldn’t eat at the Fine Dining restaurant with our daughter, the food at the Ocean Terrace was varied, delicious and well priced but the central restaurant district is less than a 5 minute walk away so there is plenty of choice. Our rooms were perfect, at the edge of the property with spectacular views of the beach, sea and lighthouse.

After long flight from San Francisco, it was a delight to find the driver from Oyster Box at the Arrivals hall. Quick transfer to Oyster Box, efficient checkin found us in a beautiful,quiet,clean large hotel room with a wonderful bathroom/ shower. Breakfast was one of the best we have ever had having stayed in many fine establishments around the world. Thank you Oyster Box- we will be back soon.

Our all time favourite Hotel in the whole wide world, very special in all respects!”
It’s location on the seafront with the deafening sound of the Indian Ocean is breathtaking and dolphins can be spotted in the early mornings. We still feel very safe walking along the esplanade which is very picturesque if you ignore all the high rise buildings that have been built in the last few years. Umhlanga Rocks has got a nice ambience with its little shops and international cuisine restaurants. Just love the East African and tropical decor which the charming staff bring to life. We cannot think of anything more pleasurable in life than having lunch on the magnificent terrace looking out onto the sea and blue African skies!

We loved everything about the Oyster, Justin front end manager treated us extremely kindly and well. His cheery, positive outlook, immediately rubbed off on us. There was not a single person who took interest in us, that we were disappointed with. Cyril was attentive, Nellie spot on, Tracy at front desk dutifully and focused. Pride and Patience served our room needs. Your maître de was cheerful and interactive, we loved her and the supervisor Knox. Suma the stalwart guard at the elevator was sweet and interested. With everyone they taught us a great love of the people of South Africa and showed a great love for the guests. But, we just felt comfortable and privileged to have created in such a few days wonderful memories that will go with us in our next 40 years. We hope each is recognized and hope we did not miss anyone. Of course anyone we spoke with at the front desk was fun spirited as we engaged them. Is it worth going to the Oyster Box, absolutely.

Ultimate escape”
It’s my favorite escape destination, when I need a break. My kids love being spoiled at the oyster box and enjoy swimming. I enjoy the tranquil views of the Indian Ocean and ionic light house. The staff are exceptional and efficient, special thanks to sakhile from concierge, sanele from reception, Sita day and thabiso from the pool deck, jonathan from resturant and the ever so helpful Justin Botha ( guest relations) who always make our stays so amazing. Food is exceptional and they cater for all my kids fussy pallets. Love love love oyster box

From the moment we arrived, the Oyster Box Team transported us to another world. Each day started with a breakfast feast after an early walk on the promenade. We cannot start to describe the fine dining in the Grill Room; you have to experience the True Legend yourself! The Team helped us celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary holiday by showering us with congratulatory cards, gifts and desserts. We certainly selected the best destination to unwind and relax; be it next to the pool, in the cinema room or with the breathtaking views from the Lighthouse Bar.

Really wonderful. The hotel and location are stunning. They have thought of everything. So much attention to detail. Made us and our 10 month old son feel so welcome. The staff are the real heart of this hotel - they were all genuinely friendly and warm and so lovely with our son. I couldn’t fault a thing. And that breakfast with that view is the best I’ve ever had.

A hotel with a big personality which was perfect for our break away from Johannesburg for a few days. This is not a clinical corporate hotel, the Oyster Box is special. It is just a pleasant place to be, with interesting art and charming decor. The staff and to the element of class in always remembering your name and how you like your eggs done. If you're celebrating something, call ahead and they will make your staff that much more special.
