We spent one week in September 2012 at the Palace hotel in Sliema. The hotel looked exactly as the pictures on the website. The room was nice and clean, with a comfortable bed. The facilities were excellent, and the roof top pool was very nice. We had dinner at the TemptAsian restaurant which was also very good.
This hotel lives absolutely up to its five-star reputation and Agoda.com is able to secure most competitive rates which make it excellent value for money. The hotel is located on top of a gentle slope about five minutes from the swinging waterfront of Sliema, where there are bus terminus connecting you to major touristy spots to the Island and ferries to Valleta the capital. There are hip-hop buses and water tours on the waterfront as well. Most convenient for tourists. The slope poses a minor challenge for people who have difficulties with walking uphill on narrow roads particularly on a hot sunny day or when the weather is inclement. But this is only a short 5-minute walk in any case.
Fantastic stay for a bargain”
Great hotel, especially when you can find a special deal. Great breakfast, lovely rooms and nice place to relax. Close to main strip in Sliema
Nice but overpriced hotel”
This is a nice hotel in the center of Sliema. From here it's easy to go around Malta. Also, there are shops, restaurants and supermarkets within a few minutes walking distance. The best part is probably the quite large roof top where you can enjoy the view and the sun. The service was very good, especially at the reception. The hotel could improve on the quality of it's bathroom. It certainly was not 5 star (i.e., the shower). One thing we really disliked was the cake in the hotel cafe. We had the apple pie and it was just awful. In summary, the hotel is nice, but 180 EUR / night is too much for what you get.
The capacity to delight and to disappoint”
The Palace Hotel has a number of contradictions. The hotel is well appointed and well-located, but there are also disappointments. For instance, recommending that guests not drink the tap water and providing 2 small bottles of water free of charge for day 1 and then presuming to charge triple the street price for water thereafter is terribly disappointing. Also having to ask the housekeeping staff on two separate evenings to bring new bathrobes when the old ones were taken away is a disappointment. The chicken burgers ordered via room service on day 1 were a delight; the same order on day 4 was not - it was soggy and limp, and the salad was old. However staff going out of their way to satisfy unusual requests at short notice (which they did on two occasions) was delightful. In summary I would recommend that you book the Palace Hotel, but that you not necessarily insist on consistently perfect all of the time. THe smiles and genuine concern for client welfare shown by the staff more t
friendly staff&great location”
our stay at the palace hotel was very pleasant. great customer service and the hotel is located in a center. you can access anywhere by foot.(super market was only 2 minutes away) . only the sad part was the amenities(which was low quality, which was not a local product.)
Great place, great staff”
Great hotel. Well maintained with a friendly and helpfull staff who are very knowledgable about the island features. Location is good, just a 5 min.walk to the harbour/ferry/watertaxi's etc. Only downside is one has to walk UP the hill to get back to the hotel and last ferry/watertaxi from Valetta is early in the evening. We loved the breakfast and, having had a extensive lunch outside everyday, had a very nice diner at the terrace of the hotel's restaurant "Talk of Town"almost every night: Very good food, wine and drinks at a decent price and very friendly staff. The beds were very comfortable, only downside was the small balcony, lousy view and small bathroom with low waterpressure in the shower. Room was kept clean very well and transport from and to the airport was arranged and performed flawless. Frontdesk arranged to excursions for us (one to Gozo with the hop on/hop off bus and one private tour by limo)that worked out excellent and were very reasonably priced. The rooftop pool may have had very cold water, the sunbathing area was great with comfortable and clean sunbeds and a well equpped bar. We will definitely come back to this hotel on afollow up visit tto this lovely island.
Not bad a hotel”
We got a very good price from agoda - $68 with breakfast!. This is a new hotel, located a short walking distance from the street sea front. Also a short walking distance to several famous restaurants, ferry terminal. Also easy to get around - there are several buses that go to Valetta and St Julian. Room is small but comfortable. Make sure you are not allocated a room with window facing inside the hotel - it can be very hot because the hotel only switches on aircon system in the summer!. Breakfast is plentiful, but the quality is so and so.
The common parts of the hotel are very nice and elegant and everything is pretty new. The rooms are very large and comfortable, we had a room at the forth floor with a nice view on the see and a small terrace that is very handy to relax a bit in the sun after breakfast. We stayed in November but the sun was shining and we also could take advantage from the beautiful terrace on the last floor that has an impressive swimming pool that ends apparently in the void but is only a very clever architectural effect. The people are extremely nice and helpful for any need that you can have. The breakfast is really fantastic and with the sun it is beautiful to eat outside on nice and comfortable tables. The restaurant on the last floor is an experience that is worth to try in my opinion, they serve very good Asian food (the sushi is great) in a very suggestive environment: the view on the enlightened town is beautiful and the place is very stylish and elegant. It is possible also to have separated (by nice and light curtains) tables for groups of people also with sofas for a nice after dinner time. In November the terraces were closed in the evening but I imagine that in summer would be even better to eat outside.
It is a 5-star deluxe hotel with an indoor swimming pool as well as a top floor pool deck, sauna, steam room, and restaurants. Modern décor, very comfortable beds, good service, breakfast was not included with our rate. We were very lucky because they upgraded us from a standard room to a deluxe room with a balcony and sea view, very kind of them! If you want to swim for exercise, best time for the pool is in the morning! Buses are just a short walking distance away. We highly recommend this hotel. It was worth every penny and Euro!
A very nice experience.”
We had heard such horror stories about hotels on Malta that we were prepared for the worst; so this hotel was a very pleasant surprise. The good service began even before arrival as several questions we had were answered promptly and helpfully by e-mail. The pools and exercise room (shared with the Victoria Hotel) are also very good.
Flavours Suit - cute apartment with personality”
We stayed 3 nights in the Flavours Suite and couldn't stop ourselves from being amazed in the way it is decorated. It's not like any other hotel apartment we have ever stayed in. We had a lot of fun there, it stimulates good mood. The view from the suite balcony is wonderful. The hotel staff is very kind and helpful. The hotel is lovely and clean. We highly recommend this place. Thanks a lot!
Great location friendly staff”
Arriving at the hotel they had not received confirmation from Agoda that a 50% deposit was already paid resulting in me having to phone my bank first and the hotel to ring agoda. The staff are very friendly, rooms nice enough and restaurants of good quality (especially the Asian restaurant on the top floor).
Lovely hotel in a great location”
the hotel is very well located not far from all important things. most of the rooms have nice views! the staff isn't realy frendly. however almost all rooms are new an big, offering everything to feel well. the bed is fantastic, very similar to the bed w hotel use to have! great! we had a fantastic rest. the infinity pool on the top of the hotel is amazing and the rest area big. the thai restaurant also on the top of the hotel is a must! perfect food and very nice hambiente. will for sure stay again there.
Good location, nice hotel.”
Location was fine, a few streets back from main strip but easy to get to the main areas and ferry stops. Hotel has nice facilities, the roof top thai terrace restaurant is a MUST! Our room was quite noisy, being on the front road - But a simple request to change to the hotel manager had us quicky enjoying some peace :-) The staff were great at assisting booking tours.
I was staying there for my birthday trip and they made my day totally. Friendly and helpful staff, nice room and many great surprises. It was so touching when I stepped into my room and found a birthday cake and a letter from the hotel. Thank you very much! I definitely come back here next time for another stay! :)
Short stay for two.”
Overall we enjoyed our stay at the hotel but that was mainly due to its location to other areas. It looks a five star hotel when you walk into the lobby, but it doesn't manage to maintain the same standards throughout. We had booked through Agoda so where happy with what we got for our money, but don't expect to pay the standard hotel rates and get the same value for money.
Overall, the hotel was a good place to stay and for a good price when breakfast is included. This was our first trip to Malta, so we were not familiar with the area. The hotel location was in a good location to catch the bus, as you only have to walk down the hill. The spa was a good value if you selected a package treatment.
The hotel staff are so helpful and friendly and great facilities, hotel is situated in a good place to catch the buses or wallk to the sea front. Great Place for a holiday in Malta.
Nice hotel but not quite 5 star”
overall i would say this is a nice hotel and pleasant enough to stay in. my main critizism would be that the room was not really up to five star standard. it had all the facilities you might expect, but the room we had was a bit rough around the edges. it looked like it could do with a thorough clean and there were bits and pieces that were broken or in a bad condition. otherwise the room was nice enough and comfortable to sleep in. normally i wouldn't complain, but i did expect better for a five star hotel room. i would never pay the hotels direct rates, but the agoda price we paid was fairly reasonable for what we got.
