Best place should you try”
I went this place 26-27 February 2019 with my wife, the room is cold need heater, i think because of weather and floor tile. Staff are friendly and good service. The internet slowly. the room has some sound from other room, good views, good breakfast. I like it.
Beautiful quiet chalet, 30 minutes walk from town”
A beautiful and quiet chalet, just next to the railway line, 30 minute walk from town centre. We loved our stay, the room was very comfortable with good amenities. (always appreciate a little kettle and free coffee in the room!) Unfortunately we had a ground floor room which was extremely damp (seems to suffer from rising damp), so nothing ever dried and our bed linen remained a little damp throughout. Ideally request a room on the upper floors - our friends had a room on the 3rd floor and it was perfectly dry it seems! Good breakfast choice, but make sure you put your order in the night before as we were woken up at 6am on one of the mornings just to select breakfast.... All in all, a lovely quiet chalet and we loved our stay - minus the damp and the 6am unrequested morning call!
Lovely little hotel”
Very reasonably priced, quaint little hotel with all the expected amenities and a dedicated staff. Breakfast may not be the hilight but the staff go and buy something from outside for free every morning.
Reasonable hotel in suburbs of Kalaw hill station”
Set in the back of Kalaw, a little too close to railway tracks when trains come through at night. Good service. Rooms more than adequate. Nice setting with terrace overlooking the valley. Free bikes available for guests.
Noisy, cold, Not really worth it”
Management needs to work harder to make this a peaceful stay. Paper thin walls means that almost any sound came through the rooms. Pine cones falling onto the iron roof, noisy 3am check in guests, street sogs barking and fighting right outside the rooms made sleeping impossible. No airxon or heating meant really cold nights. For the same price you shoild get better facilities. Don't recommend at all.
Simple and clean!”
Simple hotel and clean room. The picture on the Internet is nicer than the actual room!!!! Nice terrace for breakfast where you can enjoy the fresh air and sunrise. staff is nice and helpful. Only a short walk from the city centre. Breakfast is simple (get to the breakfast first as food can get scarce really quickly and not much is left).
Beautiful and quiet place”
It is located quite far from the main road and a little difficult to find. No lift so you have to carry your luggages up. They are beautiful buildings in wood. My only complain is the noise level. We can hear our neighbours pretty well. Evan door closings and talks (maybe they talk too loud). Buffet breakfast is very good with both local and english breakfast choices. There is a tracking route at the back and a neighbourhood so you can walk around.
Beautiful place to stay but far from the main road”
It was beautiful wooden houses which matches Kalaw atmosphere. You can hear people talking from downstairs or outside your room very well. There is no lift so you have to carry your luggage up. Some lights are broken, if all are working, lighting will be very good. Not very easy to find the place. It is right at the residential area so you can walk around but be careful of street dogs.
we reached at 3am after the night bus, managed to check in but had to pay additional. cute and clean place but bad toilet design(flood easily), internet not working. ordered breakfast before our trek but staff seemed to forget about it and we had to rush through breakfast. staff wasnt really friendly or helpful
Lovely little hotel, nice view from every room. My room was spacious, loved the little balcony. Breakfast was very nice and more than sufficient. Staff very friendly and helpful. Set backs:1.) wi-fi did not work well even in the dining room and after a while not at all. 2.) The hotel advertised that there is restaurant for evening meals. To be fair, they did cook something for me when I really wanted to eat there. But there is not much choice. One should know that if one travels without personal means of transport, because the nearest other restaurants are nor very near.
Dear Guest, Thank you for the review. We were happy to serve you and we hope to improve our service and property quality to serve our guests better in the future. We hope you had a pleasant stay at our The Pinewoods Hotel and we are sorry that the room did not meet your expectation. We look forward to having you again in the future. Thank you. Hotel Manager
Modern decor located away from town”
Best looking hotel room I've stayed at so far in Myanmar. Modern conveniences such as USB charging ports and side table LED lights. If they only paid attention to the small details like grouting the washroom tiles, replacing the rusting waste bins and cleaning the washroom slippers which were pretty gross, then the hotel would be perfect. Staff are nice but English isn't that great. They can pick you up and drop you off in town. Around a 15 minute to town. Wi-Fi not working when I was there.
Nice stay ”
Staff was very friendly and helpful. They took us by motorbike from the busstop to the hotel witch is abot out of the city but not to far. Breakfast was great. Rooms were clean and early checkin was possible. Don't take the free bikes. Breaks were not working...
Comfortable and homey place among the pines”
I loved this place! First off, the staff are SO nice. They drove me to the train station, carefully explained all directions to me, and even brought a heater to my room. They are, in true Myanmar fashion, above and beyond friendly and kind. The location is a 15-20 minute walk from downtown. I didn't mind this at all as it's in a peaceful spot among the pines, right next to the railroad tracks. I had such a great stay here and I would come back in a heartbeat. One tip: pack layers as it gets cold at night.
The Pinewoods is out of the main area of town, but close enough to walk. It is a small, almost boutique/cabin style hotel, but very nicely designed. Rooms are filled with modern furnishings, large, great light, and have good size bathrooms. Staff was very helpful and attentive and room was cleaned everyday with great care. This is one of the BEST places in Kalaw!
It was clean. It was outside of the main city center. We woke up to the sounds of birds. It was nice and cool at night and the rooms were very comfortable. Staff were generous. There were bikes available but their needs to be a couple more. Walking to town took about 15 minutes and is very pleasant. Wonderful place!
Beautiful hotel in the hills”
I stayed at The Pinewoods Hotel with my husband and brother-in-law before trekking to Inle Lake. We found the hotel to be beautiful and very comfortable. We booked the "Family Room" and were given a little villa with my brother-in-law having his bed upstairs. The hotel wasn't very close to town, which made it more peaceful. It was easy and cheap to get a cab to the market and there might have been bikes to rent. The food at the hotel is pretty good and cheap. You can also watch the local train come by in the morning and at night. The only downside to this hotel is that the staff could use a bit more training. We ordered two milkshakes and were literally served milk that had been shaked in a cocktail shaker. All in all we enjoyed ourselves and wish that would could have stayed longer. If you're going to Kalaw to trek and want to treat yourself to something nice first this is an excellent choice.
The best hotel in Kalaw?”
Everything was great, for the money we paid I would say fantastic. The hotel is very new, feels like a house in the Alps. The staff was superfriendly, food excellent, location beautiful. Would recommend it to anybody! The only possible downside, is that it's about 20 minutes walk to the center, but for us it was not a problem at all.
Wonderfully attentive and helpful ”
We really loved it there. We've arrived to Kalaw from Mandalay with the Coach at 2 in the morning and we were charged additional $20 which is acceptable . The pleasant and cool verandah where breakfast is served is a very pleasant place to sit. Staff are always attending to any questions or needs and go beyond to be helpful. My Husband got sick with diarrhea and I got a great help from the staff . It's not in the city centre but that's nice. A walk to the Kalaw Market is for about 20 mins if you don't mind walking . I love the Location and I will definately stay there again . The only downside for me is that there's no heating system installed in the hotel room. But we were offered a fan heater as well as extra blanket. We were visiting Kalaw in Mid Feb and it get's really cold at night even with extra blanket and heater is on and we were sleeping with our hoodies . It's really uncomfortable and we could not fall asleep . But I guess this is how it is in there. so if you visiting Kalaw between Dec-Feb , you might want to bring your fleece Jkt and Thermal top. But regardless of the chill room I love the scenery and Hotel . I will go back there with my fleece Top and stay there again .
Nice location and good rooms”
The hotel is very nice, with some clean and nice rooms. There were free bike rental, which is very nice as it is located a bit outside the town center. The location is very nice, and the fine breakfast, can be enjoyed outside overlooking the nice view.
Value for money hotel”
After reading some of the negative reviews, we arrived at the hotel with relatively low expectations. The property has been open for just less than a year and as a result the staff are a little lacking in confidence and experience in anticipating guests needs. Nevertheless, we found them to be sincere and responsive to requests when made. It is true that as mentioned in previous reviews that you can hear noise from neighbouring rooms and the bedrooms are very cold at night which we learned from other travellers to be a common theme in all of the hotels in this mountain location. Top tip is to ask for a heater on arrival (at the outdoor reception!) and take hot water bottles for the chilly nights in Kalaw and also Lake Inle if you are are also visiting there. The rooms were spotlessly clean but ensure you press the 'clean my room button' located near the front door otherwise it might not get done! Breakfast was good but again provided in a very cold room; we would suggest that you take breakfast on the outdoor terrace following sunrise where it is much warmer and very scenic. Be aware that this hotel is located 15 mins walk out of town and with some hills. This can be overcome using the hotel bicycles; we would also recommend you take a small torch with you for returning home from dinner etc. All in all, a good value for money hotel amidst the fresh mountain air of Kalaw. Negative comment: we were not particularly impressed that the staff have to work in an outside reception throughout the year in various climatic (including inclement) conditions; the owner(s) of this hotel should consider provision of an alternative reception area during the cold and hot periods!
