Best staff ever”
To say that the staff is friendly and attentive would be an understatement. At the Playford, you feel pampered. It would be difficult to pinpoint anyone in particular as they were all very dedicated. They have the best concierge since Michael J. Fox and he's French. There's also a lady at the restaurant who is a joy to talk to in the morning. And indeed, the breakfast itself would be a sufficient reason enough to stay at the Playford for its quality and variety. The fitness center and the indoor swimming pool are open 24 hours a day. The hotel is quiet although it is located in the city center. Located just fifteen minutes from the airport, it would be a good choice even if you just have only one night to stay there. I had the room 524 and it was right above the opposite carpark so I could see the sky. A hotel with a view seems to be an issue in Adelaide CBD. My room was clear, quiet. The comfy king size bed was perfect. A minor issue would be the poor offer of guest supplies ( no cotton tips, no toothbrush, no shaving kit, no vanity set,...). Given the price of the room, they could spend one dollar more on guest supplies. The other issue would be the internet. You have only a one hour free wifi time in the lobby. They would charge around 25$ per day in the room. Besides that, I still would recommend this hotel because of the amazing staff.
The stay at the Playford was fantastic. I travel with my partner to Adelaide regularly and this is by far our most favorite hotel in Adelaide. This is the second time that I have stayed here, the first being in a north facing spa room and the second in a loft suite. Both rooms had their benefits, but I enjoyed the north facing spa room just a little more. (The balcony and view across the road is fantastic) The service in this hotel is second to none, every time you check-in, walk our to dinner, come back they always greet you with a friendly smile and ask you how your day/meal was. Good old proper quality service, you definitely get what you pay for. Will stay here again and again and again.
Great Value Lovely Hotel”
We stayed one night at the Playford and enjoyed our stay immensely. We were very impressed with the decor of the hotel and the quality of the room for the price paid. The staff were friendly and the concierge particularly helpful when it came to good restaurants for meals. Will definately stay there again when next we travel to Adelaide.
A pleasant place to stay in the heart of Adelaide”
We spent the weekend in Adelaide, and stayed at the Playford for the first time. The welcome at reception was friendly and efficient. Room quite comfortable. The breakfast buffet used innovative ingredients (chia, etc) and was delicious. A little strange that you had to make a booking for breakfast but, given the small size, understandable. In-room dining was a treat - we had plans to eat out but, with my wife feeling unwell, elected to stay in. Three things to improve: 1. Toilet paper - please invest in decent, soft paper. We ended up buying our own (and taking it with us). 2. Wifi - I cannot understand why Australian hotels still persist in trying to charge guests for this. We all carry mobiles with data anyway. 3. The 1.5% credit card surcharge. Only applies in Australian hotels, and only on money spent in the hotel (didn't apply to my online booking). When I spend $150 on in-room dining, asking me for another $2 at checkout is just irritating.
Fantastic service and location”
Some might argue that the Playford needs to modernise. Although I'm also not a huge fan of decades-old, overly decorative design, and operettas pumping through the speakers at breakfast, the Playford was really perfect for our four-day weekend. I highly recommend getting the breakfast buffet included in your rate -- it was a great way to start every day. The hotel staff were all exceptional. And you're only steps away from North Terrace, the river, the Oval, the museums, and the new crop of laneway restaurants and cafes making a beautiful mark on this growing city.
Quality dropping over the years”
I've always stayed at the Playford when travelling to Adelaide but over the years it has started to become dated and the food options are somewhat limited. They used to have breakfasts to die for with a great range of deserts but these are gone while the price remains absurd.
Art Nouveau style with extremely friendly service”
super location on north terrace, close to key attractions for business (opposite convention centre) and leisure (gardens, zoo). hotel was exactly as advertised with art nouveau style. rooms were of a similar style; the free upgrade was an unexpected surprise. adelaide is a real mix of old and new - with grand buildings, a low level cbd yet host to v8s on a inner city circit and the fringe and adelaide festival. tram stops outside hotel that goes through the city centre and all the way to glenelg.
Excellent location for business travelers especially if you're attending a conference at the Adelaide Convention Centre which is just across the road. Also great for footy and transport with the train station and Adelaide oval across the road as well. Room was big, pool was great, staff were amazing. Always friendly and helpful and even went down the street to flag us a taxi when we were in a hurry so we didn't have to. Will definitely stay again!
the hotel is very centrally located and gives easy access to the city of adelaide. the room was great, staff extremely friendly and the restaurant looked good. great stay for shopping, nightlife and discovering adelaide. great value for money. next time we travel to adelaide we are definitely staying here.
From the moment we approached the hotel, the staff were pleased to provide exceptional service. Nothing was too much trouble and we really felt like our experience of our stay was the most important thing to the staff. They are so helpful and friendly and the dining experience sourcing local premium ingredients is absolutely superb. My husband and I have had the pleasure of staying in wonderful hotels all over the world and we happily return to the Playford again
Fabulous facilities and even better staff”
When we walked in through the revolving door to impeccable service and welcome and then experienced the 5star room they'd set the bar extremely high. We kept waiting for the next four days for evidence of the standard slipping. It didn't and my partner and I who travel extensively rate the Playford top draw
Good Deal, you pay for what you get!”
Had a pleasant stay at the Playford, location is smack in the middle of everything. It is within walking to nice and goo d restaurants as well as the shopping district!
Top class hotel in a great loction”
From the minute we walked into the hotel the quality of the Hotel was evident. The reception staff made us feel welcome and valued.and were allways very friendly and helpfull. The staff on the concierge desk helped us with any request and helped us arrange several excellent excursions,The hotel is in aprime loction with the station opposite and the tram and bus stops practically just outside. The shops and other attractions are just round the corner with the Cricket Oval just over the river. If we go back to Adelaide we will definately book into this Hotel again. If only all hotels could be like this.
great looking hotel with a good location”
Staying at the playford was great. The room was very nice. Breakfast was too expensive for me to try so I settled for the free coffee and a cake they give you every day. Staff was helpful with transfers and I actually used the pool at the evening while I was doing my laundry in the laundry room nearby.
very rewarding and relaxing. we would cetainly stay again and recommend to anyone going to adelaide for overnighters. We are keen to be availed of other such hotels as we are taking trips overseas on a regular basis and have been infected by our experience of your combined high standards, and wonderful staff. keep up the good work. kind regards, Steve and Maree G.
IT WAS A GREAT EXPERIANCE,VERY FRIENDLY STAFF, GREAT ROOMS, VERY CLEAN IT WAS THE FIRST THING I NOTICE HOW CLEAN AND FRESH THE WHOLE HOTEL SMELT,GREAT POSTITION,WE DID GET MIXED UP WITH THE HOTEL UP THE ROAD AND WAS DISAPOINTED AS THE BOYS OUT THE FRONT DID NOT GREAT US STRAIGHT AWAY SO WHEN WE RELISED WE WERE AT THE WRONG HOTEL,WE DROVE DOWN TO YOU GUYS AND YOUR BOYS WERE SO PLEASNT AND DROPED EVERY THING STRAIGHT AWAY AND COME OVER AND GREATED US,SO THAT HAS MADE OUR MIND UP WE WILL BE STAYING WITH YOU AS WE DOA LOT OF OVER NIGHT STAYES IN ADELAIDE.
Fabulous Hotel in great location”
We could not believe the value for money. The Hotel has a very elegant and old world charm about it. Every staff member treated us like honoured guests. We decided to have the standard room (still extremely comfortable but no view) and put the money towards their award winning breakfast - great move as it was superb. We would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay here everytime we were in Adelaide.
Expect no views from entry level rooms”
From the ground floor up to the 4th level, you will apparently only see the back of the neighbouring building. In my case it was a wall about 2metres away and a view into a sterile-looking corridor. However, the value is acceptable I suppose given it is a city in Australia , and the central location (but note that Adelaide is in the process of 'electrifying' its train system so you will likely have to use the 'line substitute buses' instead of any trains). Staff are nice and responsive - I left my iPhone charger at home and was able to borrow one within 10 mins of making the call to the concierge. The gym has only 2 treadmills but has a nice basic selection of weights and cardio equipment. Nothing fancy but open 24 hours. The indoor pool is also open 24 hours but don't expect too much if you usually swim in olympic length pools; I counted about 7 deck chairs lining the side of the pool and that was it. The signage in the building mentions a sauna but I didn't see one. According to the letter provided at check-in the hotel will be re-furbishing their rooms and there will be new things like tiled rooms for people with dust allergies, etc. Bathroom amenities are v basic - just the towels, soap, shampoo, conditioner and possibly a body lotion.
View of the Berlin Wall”
Although treated like royalty with an early check in and a late check out and wonderful polite helpful staff, the most expensive room in Adelaide had a horrible view even from the top floor suite we booked. All guests should be warned about not having a minutes sunlight during the day and be looking onto another hotels windows from near arms length, not to mention the loud air conditioner noises if you tried to get some fresh air. Large disclaimers on all booking preview pages are required. Would not stay here again for the price charged.
It's the little things!”
It's always the little things that make the difference. Room size, shower not over bath, mugs available with enough milk, local radio stations programmed into the TV and a morning newspaper. My choice of hotel when staying in Adelaide. Staff are always lovely and can never do enough for you. Location is also really important.
