    “Above average”

Returning on a Sunday evening at 22.20 after attending the opera at Longborough we were told the bar had closed "because of a law" and our group could not be served a drink any more. On Monday evening at 22.55 the bar had "just closed" again even though the place was full of people. On the latter occasion the two of us who were left of the group eventually did get a drink, having asked for the manager. Breakfast on Monday morning disappointing: no fresh fruit apart from apples and bananas, stale bread, no orange marmalade. On Tuesday morning the fruit selection had improved but the samovar had broken down and yielded only tepid water. On the whole the impression was that there were too few staff on duty both evenings and mornings, hence those who were present were overworked and could not cope with serving everyone present.

A quaint and attractive building in a central position. A comfortable room with a coffee machine.Very pleasant staff at dinner and reception. Nice breakfast with a good choice of cooked items and fresh fruit. However NO PORRIDGE! As the hotel has many American guests I am sure there would be a demand for porridge but there was none☹️🐾🐾🐾
