Remote & spectacular location but expensive”
A long way, about an hour, from the nearest town where the hikes to Sinharaja start. Some walks around here but charged at $10 US per person. Can hike for whole day from Deniyaya with lunch for $40US. Rooms very comfortable but food very expensive. Have to book with half board. People here really trying to make a go & impress with as little impact on environment as possible. Just means expect remote prices for everything.

Great location, well designed chalets”
We had a wonderful time at the waterfalls , especially my 11 yr old son . The trails were pleasant . I was fortunate to sight the blue magpie and enjoyed the presence of the purple face langurs around the trees. Our guide Kumar had good knowledge of the natural and wild life of the region and we enjoyed all our trails with him.

Fabulous experience with a wonderful staff”
Location, food and firendly staff
This was a wonderful experience. Very special though so not suitable for the Hilton and Marriott lovers who likes the predictable experience. This hotel is AMAZING, but! not so easy to access. You have to travel a 12km mountain road to reach it so I would highly recommend that tourists hire a local taxi to get there. But once you are there, you are as close to paradise as it can be. You however have to accept that this is an eco-friendly place, so no central heating, which is not a problem in my view in this country. The warm blanket and full supply of hot water for the shower are very adequate. And, the great wonderful surprise is that the kitchen is in hands of wonderful chef Mahesh. I was not expecting this gastronomic experience which came as a bonus. Overall, this is the place to go if you want to disconnect, be close to nature, enjoy great local food and be pampered by wonderful people. I personally cannot wait to be back.

Daylight robbery ”
Location only
We cannot describe how disappointed we were. After a 10 km drive through the beautiful landscape we were arrived at a place where there was no reception , carried our own ludgage without help considering we had a child under the age of 4 years and two adults over the age of 70. No help offered. Payment for the hotel had to be made at checkin . The whole place needs serious attention . Health hazards abundant. The rooms not cleaned but beds were made. Shower still had hair from previous guest . Shower curtain with mildew. Windows dirty and held open with a stick! Staff untrained. Dinner which was not included had chicken, prawns, ribs, sausages, fish all on same plate. 22 dollars each for dinner. At breakfast left over bread rolls from night before a portion of jam and some Sri Lanka food. The chef at the omelette table sneezed into the back of his hand and wiped had on coat and continued to cook. The reviews for this hotel is misleading pleasw be aware we paired with additional money for dinner! Be warned!

It was an expensive mistake accepting this hotel as an alternative to a cancelled booking. The access road is narrow, winding and steep. Our car slipped dangerously on many corners. We were relieved to get out safely. Whilst there are some good views, on the road up to the hotel, the hotel is located in a hollow, without a view. The rooms are rusting, leaking hot boxes. It is an example of a good concept executed very poorly.

Immersed in nature at the Rainforest eco lodge ! ”
The Location. The nature trails and the birds.
The stay was unique and exciting. The naturalists were excellent and the night trail was one of the best for me. However, we hope the staff service levels will improve. Specially in delivering as agreed during the booking. We agreed on a particular guide and were promised that he would be there but our last emails were not responded to and eventually we did not get the guide that we wanted to have. Further, due to the rooms being located far and wide, there was not room service. This is essential . A heater in each room too will help as the nights can get very cold in December.

2 Nights in Sinharaja”
Unique concept, well executed, laid back atmosphere
Really enjoyed our stay. Only downside is it is quite expensive. It is quite remote so it is not possible to eat elsewhere so if you want an evening meal it is USD 22. The prices for food, drink and the guided walks are not prominently advertised so we got the impression walks were free but they are actually USD 7 or USD 15 for 3, which is not an awful lot but we still should have been told beforehand.

Waste of time and money”
We arrived at the hotel at about 9 p.m. There's no one waiting for us at the reception, the lights were switched off though we had booked two nights stay in advance. We were knocking on all doors. Finally a manager showed up. He said he was sorry about the situation and that he was aware about our visit but they usually switched off all the lights to save the power. Well this might be a really good thing to do but anyway one should have been at the reception waiting for guests in complete darkness or with a table lamp if they wish. We were served dinner in our chalet and we were asked to leave all the plates on the porch so they didn't disturb us. In the morning the plates were still on our porch with a lot of ants on it. After breakfast we decided to do Main trail. We were sold special socks 5 dollars per pair to protect us from leaches, also they charge 7 dollars per person for the guide. The trecking took about 2 hours. We saw a few butterflies, one bird, three flowers, smelled a few leaves and that's it!!! Well not really, I also found 4 leaches around my waist. This was probably my fault as we were warned about leaches but the guide I think wasn't concerned much about leaches as soon as he sold us the socks. So after you remove leaches there's bleeding, not heavy at all but it's hard to stop, not sure why. I wasn't offered a plaster and a bandage I was just told to press a napkin against the bleeding area if I have one. We decided to skip the night tracking. Next morning I went to the office to check out. They didn't accept my maestro card as it was a debit one and I had to pay in cash. It worked just fine for other hotels in Sri Lanka, Turkey, Georgia, South Africe, etc. Guys, are you trying to hide you income to avoid paying taxes? Or you just take cash for something that should be free and just put it in your pocket? So I would not recommend the eco lodge. This just isn't worth it especially when you pay 500 bucks for two night stay.
