Fantastic”

What a beautiful place to stay, the owner and his wife were the perfect hosts, was our first time in nongkhai, they told us the best restaurants to go to and they were right,we are stopping there again on our way back to Bangkok, a first class experience, tun the owner even got up early and took us to the bus station to get the early bus to Vientiane, one of the best places we have ever stayed in,the view of the Mekong breathtaking from the upstairs room, highly reccomend this guest house,if we ever go to nongkhai I know where I'm going to stay, book well in advance as I'm sure the rim will be full most of the time, also a great cup of coffee 10 stars for sure.

Great hospitality!”

Hospitality of guesthouse owner, location, clean and comfortable rooms

I had a great stay at The Rim Riverside Guest House. The room upstairs was spacious, had lots of natural light, overlooked the Mekong River, and was clean and comfortable to stay in. The coffee there was great too. You can also use the guesthouse's bicycle for free as well. But what really made the difference was the hospitality of the guesthouse owner, Mr. Theung. He took the initiative to take me around Nong Khai on his motorbike -to food stalls, a local market and park, and even to the bus station when I was leaving the city. All for no extra charge! It was truly a pleasure staying there.

Quiet spot, v.helpful owner”

The uber-helpful owner, price, quiet location

Arrived early but previous guests had also left early so we were welcomed into our room by the very helpful owner who settled us in, showed us places of interest on the map and then even dropped us off at a great vegetarian place for breakfast as he thought we might not be able to find it on our own. Nothing was too much trouble for the owner, he offered us use of his bike and scooter when he wasn't using them and would have taken us to the border but happened to be busy when we wanted to go but called us a tuk-tuk and agreed the price for us instead. Hotel took a little finding but that was mainly due to our driver. If you ask to go to Mut Mee (most drivers will know this as it's in lonely planet), with Mut Mee on your right carry on down this road (heading towards hosital) and take the next right to Rim Riverside. Mut Mee is also recommended for food. Bed was a little hard but that is personal preference. We had the downstairs room which is a little overlooked by the coffee bar outside but not a major problem. Room is basic but large and for the price you can't complain. The owner makes this place!

Pleasant stay thanks to fantastic hosts”

Stayed in Nong Khai for one night and chose The Rim Riverside due to its price and the recommendations from other travellers. I did not regret the decision: the room is fair according to what you pay for and the hotel is located close to all of Nong Khai's main attractions, so this would have been enough reasons already to stay here. What really makes the difference are the owners: both are very friendly, giving recommendations on the surroundings and even offer a transport to the bus station to go back to Udon Thani. They hand out bikes for a small fee in order to catch up with the city and run a small coffee shop on their premises. The whole atmosphere is very relaxing and friendly, you really feel like staying at home. Plus they have a couple of sweet dogs and a cute cat. Highly recommended!

What a find ”

The Rim Riverside us a 4 br guest house located on the banks of the Mekong River. Don't expect luxury, however, what you loose out on you gain on the wonderful warm welcome and continues helpful tips from the owner Gung. I loved this place, it was so relaxing to sit in the small coffees tea, watch the world go by and meet interesting people. The rooms are basis, but have your needs.. No breakfast, but is an advantage it will force you to stroll along the promenade where you can find a few nice places within 1 km.. Owner Gung will always offer you a lift downtown fir an evening meal. Yes a wonderful 3 nights for he, thank you for being part of my life.

Perfect location”

1) The location by the river Mekong, 2) The splendid personalities of the owners and their readyness to provide excellent service, 2) The price

This is a small guesthouse, only three rooms, I believe. Lovely setting, facing the river and with a nice small outdoor area for coffee and relaxation. The owners, of which the husband speaks very good English, are both extraordinarily friendly and helpful. On three occasions they gave me transportation to various locations in Nongkhai and helped me find things or services - free of charge! They also make very good coffee. For meals, the nearby Mutmee is a convenient choice, but there are several others. The only thing that annoyed me was their guard dog, barking wildly in the middle of the night sometimes, waking me up, - but then again: the dog was guarding also me and my safety, so I accepted that. I warmly recommend this place!

All we wanted and more”

All we wanted was a view of the river and the Rim Riverside not only provided this but so much more. The owner is a sprightly man in his 60s or 70s - excellent English and went over and beyond the call of service to provide us with so much help - providing advice on eats, buses to Bangkok, and more. The amazing hospitality of this place is evident in the number of strays that have made this place their home - two beautiful dogs and the most affectionate four-month old kitten you will ever meet. Nong Khai was one of our best trips ever, and The Rim was one of the reasons why.

location, quiet neighborhood, very friendly staff

We arrived in Nongkhai and became lost. We called the hotel and asked for directions. In less than 5 minutes he arrived on a motorcycle and guided us to the hotel. How often does one receive that kind of service? He and his wife are both very friendly and gave us advice and directions on restaurants, shopping, etc. The hotel is right on the river and you get a very nice sunrise and sunset over the Mekong river. We would definitely stay there again!

Super helpful staff, quite room, clean room

This hotel is actually not hotel. It's like guest house. It's located on very quite place. And thai staff(or owner?) the guy who can speak English and Japanese is very kind and helpful. The room is very simple. However it's clean and has cable TV. Hot water works well. If you need a simple and quite room, I recommend Rim to stay.

tung and pai were great. they held my room after I was 2.5 hours late because no tuk tuk driver could find them. and we were with 2 blocks, several times. rooms are clean and spacious, a little sparse, but you only need to sleep, use the bathroom and shower. this is all there and a small coffee shop where you can sit and enjoy the river. I highly recommend The Rim Riverside.

New Guesthouse direct on the riverside”

New, Riverwiew, Very nice owner

I had a very nice stay here. No Tuk tuk-driver knows this place...address means nothing to them. You HAVE TO HAVE their telephone number. This place is also called THE RIM. Actually it is not a hotel. It is a caffee with three big rooms for rent. It is not listed on TripAdviser. The owner should take contact with TripAdviser. Everything is Very nice here. The owner speeks English. It is near the center (10 min walk) direct on the riveside. It is a nice caffee wth excellent coffee, but there is also beer etc. No Food. So no breakfast. But if you ask the owner he can buy fresh bread in the morning and you can have a continental with good coffee. But there are breakfast places near by. At the moment they are building a walkway along the river so soon you can use it for walking to the center of town.

Hospitality like it's meant to be.”

hospitality, location, friendliness

Teung, I hope I'm spelling that correctly, makes you feel at home and like you're part of the family. He anticipates guest's needs, and goes out of his way to please. My only regret is I didn't spend more time there. It's a peaceful place, right on the bank of the river. Markets, local pubs, temples, restaurants, and even an authentic German bakery are all within walking distance. Rim Riverside is a hidden gem in Thailand.

Excellent service, peaceful location with great views ”

This guest house is located directly in front of the river with unblocked views of the river. It is located in a very peaceful and quiet location and yet within walking distance from convenience stalls, laundry shop and local eateries. The room is very clean, neat and very comfortable. You can just relax in the room the whole day or at their cafe and enjoy the breeze. Another thing to highlight is the service provided by the owner which is top notch. Upon arrival, the owner personally brought us to the laundry shop as we have 2 big bags of dirty clothes to wash. As we were leaving for Laos the next day, the owner even personally drove us from the guest house to the border and along the way, he stopped by a pastry shop and brought us some delicious local pastries. Best service I have experienced from staying at so many guesthouse. The owner speaks excellent english and will provide you with all the information you need about Nong Khai. Will definitely be back on my next visit.

Rim Riverside”

Friendly helpful owner, location, facilities

Booked the Rim only the day before whilst in Viantienne. Found it very easily but didn't appreciate how far it was from Nong Khai bus station - was quite a walk carrying a loaded bergan but well worth it. On arrival was met by the owner - a very friendly helpful chap called Tung. He let me have the use of a push bike and gave me lots of information about things to see/do in NK. The Rim has only 3 rooms but all very clean with all facilities that you would need (and everything worked!!!!) and right beside the river. Tung runs a lovely little coffee shop as part of the Rim - really relaxing to have a coffee or beer whilst watching the Mekong river flow slowly by. Hope to go back to Nong Khai soon and will definitely book again.

Gracious hosts, great cappuccino ”

Stayed for 6 nights. I had an upstairs room. The room is basic. Bedside tables would have been nice so would not have to put phone water etc on the floor by the bed. The curtain doesn't quite fit the window so there is a gap letting the light shine through. Not seen on the photos here is a new building blocking most of the view of the river and I guess built on where the garden was, not really much of a garden now. I think there is just the one room in the new building, but that will be the best room for the view. The room was clean, the a/c shower and fridge all worked well. The host, Tong, is a lovely guy, always ready to help and make delicious coffee. There is a funny cat that will obsessively suck on your hands or arms when you pet him, never saw a cat do that before! I can recommend this guest house and would stay there again.

A little gem”

Quality of the room, the owners, cleanliness

This was a great find. A cheap and high quality new guest house only 200 metres from the main pier, overlooking the Mekong river and with a view of the Friendship Bridge. The owner was very knowledgable and helpful, willing to give me a lift to the bridge on his motorbike as well as helping me find the van to Udon Thani airport and taking me to the bus stop. Coffee and drinks were cheap with a lovely little garden and two dogs. I stayed on my way to Laos and then came back on my return for a further 2 nights. The upstairs room was large and clean, the bathroom spotless and with a good shower. Thoroughly recommended!

Very helpful owner and good location”

It is probably the helpful and friendly owners that make the Rim Riveside such a nice place to stay, however, the rooms are also spacious, clean with good facilities and the seating area next to the walking/cycling path is also very pleasant. The upstairs rooms offer great, uninterrupted views over the Mekong. It is a relatively short stroll to the main river front area and restaurants and cafes that line it and where the Saturday night market is held. I'd happily stay again.
