We are two adults traveling with our older parents, and found the River Resort to be just perfect for us. The rooms are very thoughtfully designed, with the outdoor shower a lovely surprise. The grounds are spacious, well-maintained, and so peaceful. Two swimming pools are small but perfect for an afternoon dip. Staff were very hospitable and helpful. We all had very nice massages in a simple but comfortable facility. The location is far from town so transportation is needed. The restaurant is rather overpriced, particularly for local food - it was shocking to see pad thai for the same price as a Western pasta. This last point pushed us to leave the resort for meals elsewhere more often than we might have liked.
Comfortable hotel with excellent service”
Located at the Mekong river. Great view to Mekong and breathtaking sunrises (especialy if you book room at the river). Well maintained garden. Silent area. Good restaurant with fair prices. Working internet. Clean and nice rooms. Good distance (some kilometers) to Wat Phu. Close to local (bumpy) roads across rice fields. Perfect place to stay and relax.
5-Star resort with 5-Star staff!”
I cannot day enough about how wonderful our stay was at The River. From the room, to the view, to their happy hour, to their amazing breakfast, to the evening cicadas, to their friendly staff. We originally intended to stay 2 days and then after just an hour of relaxing by one of the pools, we immediately decided to stay a third, and it was well worth it. As we were headed to the night bus to Vientiane, they even gave us a late checkout at 2pm, and allowed us to stay and lounge by the pool until our taxi at 4:30, which then allowed us to schedule massages at their spa. I can not recommend this resort enough. :)
Luxury hotel in a far away location”
This is a modern hotel that meets international standards. It has two infinity pools (one shady, one sunny) with views of the Mekong. It is near Champasak town and loans bikes for free to visit the town. The "River View" bungalows have the best view but the others are also serviceable.
This is an excellent place. Located right on the river with rooms looking straight out over the view. Very peaceful, set back from the road in its own grounds. Good quality food. Well trained staff. Not a lot to do but that's why people come here. Bikes available.
Fabulous hotel right on the Mekong”
This is a very well thought-out and very well run hotel right on the banks of the Mekong. The individual villas, which are nicely spaced, have separate accommodation at ground and first floor level. The rooms are simply yet elegantly furnished and equipped with large terrace/balcony (with overhead fan provided if there is no breeze off the river). There is an indoor shower and a partly outdoor shower - a nice touch. I had dinner at the restaurant once night - very good service, good food, and although the prices are high by Lao standards, they are still very low by western standards. All the staff I encountered were extremely friendly and professional. This is a special place!
Relaxed and breathtaking desconnection”
If you enter the hotel by crossing the village you may fear to find an old country hotel, but on the contrary! you enter into a nest of peace with well-maintained gardens and a rice field! At dusk thousands of animals surprise you with unknown sounds which stop when dark to let you sleep in a cozy and comfortable room facing the Mekong river. We wish we had been able to stay longer......
Memorial stay wrecked our travel plan”
Champasack being a tiny town, we were surprised to have read string of good reviews about The River Resort. Though we intended to visit the town as a day trip, we thought we would test the resort out one night. Following the resort sign off the main road into a small dirt road, our spirit sank. 'This place must be overrated!' Our thought was quickly dispelled on seeing the arch bamboo trees gateway leading us into a world of natural beauty enhanced by human touch. Photos we've seen did not do this River Resort Champasack justice. You will find beautiful view 360 degree around you - anywhere you stand. Photographers would have hard time deciding where NOT to shoot. One night wouldn't do. We rescheduled our trip and stayed another night ... and yet another. Our travel plan was wrecked but we wished we could stay a few more nights. Its own rice field in the middle of the resort gave a special touch. Don't miss the sound of nature at sunset. Walking around, you would hear distinctive different ensembles of insects and small animals in different locations. It appeared there was a change of shift of crying insects about this time as well. For about an hour, we could hear loud trumpet-like continuous sounds made by(most likely) a type of insects. We could not see them but could make out that the sound was made by a single insect on trees. Each lasted about 30 seconds to a minute at a time and was distinctively different to the sounds made by hundreds of other animals. We guessed there were at least a dozen of them scattered around taking turns to blow their trumpets prompting us to turn around in search for them. We wondered what they look like. The design and fitting out of the building were very nice indeed. We looked hard to find faults and found one, a downlight in our outdoor shower was not working . The staffs were super attentive and courteous. We felt privileged to have stayed there. Thank you for a memorial time. We will ret
High End Boutique resort”
This is a very nice boutique resort, much higher than the level of design and attention to detail that one would usually find in southern Laos. The rooms are simple but very nicely designed, especially the riverfront rooms which have great views. The restaurant serves good food and the prices were surprisingly not that high. It makes a perfect base for visiting Champasak and Wat Phou. Highly recommended.
So Relaxing and Comfortable!”
the rooms are great - beautiful with ac, inside and outside shower! comfy bathrobes and slippers for your stay too! the restaurant also serves very delicious meals. i got the chicken larb/laap one night - very large serving and so delicious! this was one meal that was so good you finish the plate even when you're full. husband got the pork loin which was also a big portion, cooked perfectly, with a delicious bbq type sauce! breakfast is free which is a nice perk - delicious coffee and good options. had desserts the next night - i got sticky date pudding - delicious!!! it came with homemade vanilla ice cream. husband got the homemade vanilla ice cream and loved it! the lao staff and foreign staff are very nice and make the stay comfortable! it's a place to try for a relaxing, quiet stay!
Tolles Resort am Mekong”
A famous place at the Mekong, highly motivated staff - I enjoyed the 2 days. But, the bicycles were in poor conditions. A resort like this deserves better quality. The chain is constantly falling, no gears on mountain bikes and lousy brakes.
Gorgeous place to stay”
We really liked this place. It's a lovely location, on the banks of the Mekong. It's got nice grounds, with paddy fields between the various buildings, a good restaurant, comfortable rooms, and very helpful friendly staff. It's worth spending the extra to be in an upstairs room.
Very nice and quiet place outside of the Champasak center. The resort gave us a wonderfull room with view over the Mekong, it was a big and clean one. Champasak is 2.5 km away and the Wat Phou is 12 km away of he resort. With 35-40min car drive you can reach Pakse also.
Rarely does a place look as good as the pictures. This did. Very relaxing, Breakfast was nice. Extras were on the pricey side but I’d definitely return.
An oasis in southern laos”
The river resort is a fabulous place to relax in southern Laos. The infinity pools are magical, the restaurant great and the views of the river sensational. If you want to relax this is the place to be.
Just wonderful in every way”
The views, the property, the beautiful and friendly service, excellent (complimentary!) bicycles, and a great breakfast make this lovely place a perfect spot if you are in the area. We were completely happy with our stay and recommend it unequivocally.
Wonderful big and clean room with Mekong-View. Room comfortable and well equipped. Very nice and helpful staff. Nice and quiet garden with pools. Breakfeast on open terrace. Free bicycles, 10 minute ride to Champasak Village.
