Flew to Cancun alone, met my BFF”

We met at the airport, but different terminals in Cancun, so it took us awhile to find one another. About a 20 min taxi ride to our resort, we paid 4 times what we might have for a taxi, do preplan your transport. Once we arrived at the Royal Islander, we were beyond happy. Our beachfront suite was huge and beautiful. The moon was reflecting on the surf. It was gorgeous. The bed was a little hard, but everything else was incredible. So enjoyed the accommodations, the staff, the food and the sunshine. Can’t wait to return. Agoda made it so simple abs so affordable. Great trip! Let’s do it again soon.

I stayed there for a single night. The beach was amazing although a portion of it had been washed off by the Hurricane from a year or two before. The water is great. the rooms are amazing. the staff are very professional. The entire operation is very well run. All amenities are available on site. Great place.

Spacious rooms”

Pros: Spacious rooms, great with supermarket, café, travel agent and activities. Great beach. Cons: We didn't mind the old rooms but we needed to change room on Saturday (we checked in on Friday). They informed us to change to new room at 11-12, when we got to the new room, previous guests still in room which was very dirty, used paper napkins on floor in all rooms, dirty fridge etc. Never experienced this before in all my 25+ hotel years. We had to go out and only have access to the room after almost 3 hours. This process is not working as check out time is 11, how can they inform us to go to new room same time when cleaning is needed. Also with changing room process we lost one day even we got help with bags. We could not relax that day until the new room was cleaned and we could settle in again. Do not book over Saturdays! There are also additional charges added (taxes) that we were not informed until check out and I had to ask what it is as listed in Spanish on the bill.

Love all the Royal Resort Hotels”

If you come to Cancun, stay at any Royal Resort. The shuttle takes you to each hotel for free, except on weekends. We take a shuttle somewhere and walk. Taking the bus is only 12 pesos or less than a dollar . Don’t rent car if there is only 2 people. Buying adventures online is cheaper than on the island. The Royal Resorts offer free kayak and mini boats. Double jet skii is only $40. Try the different restaurants in the different hotels. Your room key works like a credit card and you can use it at all hotels. Loved my trip

Excellent Beach Front and Friendly Resort”

The Royal Islander is a wonderful resort. The staff are very friendly, the suites are very clean and well taken care of and the view is spectacular from every room. We enjoyed sunning in the pool and at the ocean, always plenty of chairs and staff to provide cold drinks, if you wanted. They have sister resorts that you can visit on their free shuttle - we were there 12 days and enjoyed every day.

Good hotel in the Hotel Zone”

Located far enough away from the "party area" of the Hotel Zone to be peaceful, but close enough to be convenient. We stayed for 3 nights in March 2018, at $134 USD/night and I think that was a fair price for the amenities. Concierge was helpful and everyone was friendly. Located right in front of the beach, with a decent view from probably every room. Some resorts tout having a "private beach," but there are no such things in Mexico. We did not try the all-inclusive package or any of the restaurants. I recommend booking your transportation from/to the airport in advance (Thomas More requires 48 hours advance booking). Our round trip taxi for 2 people was $60 USD after some haggling at the airport. Booking with Thomas More would have been a little cheaper and less of a hassle.

Good value for price”

Royal Islander was a very good property in the sense that it was no frills, just a clean hotel with accommodations that fit four adults in a suite, had a kitchen, and was ocean front. Our ocean view was gorgeous, but I wouldn’t say the staff or facility was overly accommodating or exceptional. It had all the basic parts - a pool and access to beach. Really enjoyed the ThoMas more travel desk there to book excursions. The hotel concierge kept trying to sell us stuff at the other properties and we did not enjoy it. He kept selling while we clearly told him we were not interested in whatever benefits he kept pushing.

Loved it! But could of been more accommodating ”

This resort is beautiful! Absolutely loved it! However, my friend and I rented a room to only stay 7 hours in before we had to return home to the states. We were told that we could use our credit cards or Pesos to make purchases before we checked in and when it came down to it, we were only allowed to charge to the room which we did not want to do do to a group of us were paying separately. When attempted to get a cab for my friend we were harassed and questioned if we were checking out. I should be able to come and go from my hotel room without the third degree... the room is paid for, you have your money... it's none of the resorts business what I am doing as I come and go. They charge per person for guests who come and visit. I do like the resort, but it was a hassle. Def not like a hotel in the States. They question everything!

Exceptional”

Moved to the Islander for just 3 days after a full week we own at The Sands. I wanted to stay longer! It is a beautiful resort - loved it! Even with the seaweed issue, I enjoyed the beach. Moved up to pool later in day - excellent. Food for breakfast and 1 great dinner Monday night in the Cayo Largo restaurant was lovely--service there is great. Loved the handy market, the laundry person was excellent, all in all a great couple of days. Thank you to all.

Lovely beachfront hotel”

First time in Cancun and enjoyed staying at the Islander. All staff was friendly, helpful and attentive. Beautiful beach and only a 1 mile walk on the sand to Playa Delfines. Would definitely stay again.
