An Oasis hidden in Malacca”

I highly recommend this to people who prefers the comfort of having to return to a really "safe space" after the whole day exploring Malacca. The Caratel Rucksack makes effort in designing the rooms and utilising the existing empty buildings as part of the scenic view. I love our spacious room and that unusual industrial (MULTIFUNCTIONAL) countertop with sink next to our bed!! The gardens surrounding the swimming pool and the hammocks adds more ambiance to the already beautiful place. There are a few downsides though. Compare to the room we stayed at the other Rucksack Jonker street, our room in Garden wing doesnt have iron, ironing board, hairdryer and fridge. While the Garden wing is a short 3-4 min walk to Stadhuys and Jonker street, extra effort is needed for those who plan to visit Samudra museums, the shopping malls and A'formosa (10-15 mins walk) , for shortcut, we had to go uphill past the Dutch graveyard (5-6 mins)and downhill towards A'formosa to get to those places.

Great location.”

My husband and I stayed from malacca for 2nights. 1st night in rucksack caratel and the other night in hatten hotel, coz our friends are recommending hatten hotel, so we decided to try it. For us, we prefer rucksack caratel over hatten because it is very relaxing, (had a garden view) quiet and unique. It is so comforting to stay in this place after a long walk in the city. In addition to this, the place is very near to jonker street and the red square. The breakfast has limited choices but it's not a big deal for us because there are lots of cheap foods in malacca. If I will come back, I'll stay in Rucksack again. I will recommend this place to my friends and colleagues who plans to go to malacca.

Value for money ”

If you planning to stay 1 night in Malacca City and you looking for a nice hotel with swimming and location nearby Jonker Street, then I would recommend to stay in The Rucksack Caratel (Garden Wing). Room was nice, staff friendly and swimming pool is beautiful. However if you have any required on the breakfast, the property unable to fulfil it. (One of my friends was pure vegetarian and they unable to arrange some vege breakfast for my friends as they do not have kitchen, all the breakfast was pre-ordered from outside...) If you are Vegetarian / Gluten free / allergic with any food, you may consider first before book it. Other then that it was a nice hotel and value for the money

Excellent & Highly Recommended”

My partner and I had a 4D3N stay at The Rucksack Caratel in their Garden View Suite with Jacuzzi and we throughly enjoyed every moment spent there. The room was true to picture and was spacious, neat and clean. The staffs were all very friendly and helpful - especially Michelle. They even went the extra mile and decorated our room with balloons, filled the jacuzzi and added flowers, provided us with a package for the birthday celebration which came with a slice of cake. We loved the pool, the hangout area with the games (for those who are interested in playing with the soccer football table, you can request for the ball from the counter), and not to forget the adorable and friendly kitties on the compound. The location is near Jonker Street and the Dataran Pahlawan Melaka Megamall which is all accessible by foot. They provide bike rentals which is great for people looking to get around to explore a little further. Overall, we enjoyed the experience and are very happy with our stay there. We will definitely be back again and will recommend this place to our family and friends.

Loved everything about hotel except the booking experience.”

We booked the garden suite for a night, and i must say honestly, i am impressed. Looks exactly as pictured and i personally did not notice a speck of dirt in the room. Well-maintained and cleaned. To be fair, the hotel is fairly new so let's hope that they can upkeep their standards of cleanliness in the years to come. The staff of the hotel were generally very friendly. The hotel had adequate facilities, like a pool and the lobby was a nice place to chill out. The reason why i rated the hotel down was that i had initially tried booking rucksack caratel via its website. Unlike the usual hotels, where there's a platform to automate the procedure, it was done through email correspondence. It is kind of a hassle but that didnt deter me from booking the hotel. I was put off by the fact that the website had promotions that were falsely advertised. When I first corresponded with Rucksack's staff, she informed me that only one of the promotion was currently available, to which i then wanted to book already. Shortly after, another staff emailed me that the first staff which had corresponded with me had misinformed me. Despite the unavailability of the promotion, i had wanted to go ahead with the booking. Before i confirmed the booking with my credit card booking, i enquired about the cancellation/refund policy twice. Both times, the staff conveniently ignored my questions, which was frustrating. Alas, i decided to avoid the hassle altogether and booked the room through Agoda. In my opinion, the hotel could have done better in terms of customer service. There is a lack of consistency and communication between their staff. The staff is not adequately trained. (The second staff mistook my booking date despite me explicitly stating in the email the dates i was keen in + conveniently ignoring my questions). It is too much of a hassle to book through their website with little to no information provided prior to booking their hotel, which i think is pretty important. I do see

Nice cosy stay at Rucksack Caratel”

I traveled in a group of 3 adults and stayed in one of the caravans located on ground floor. Albeit the space is small, a bit of a squeeze, it is comfortable and cozy. Everything is catered for needed in hotel room e.g. towels, face towels, shower gels, shampoo, kettle, hair dryer, TV etc. Nice boutique hotel. And Rucksack caratel is only 5 minutes walk to Jonker street and little india.

Definitely a go!”

Everything is perfect! Clean room, big space, and most importantly, quiet. Rucksack Caratel gives a very coziness feeling when we step in the hotel for the first time, it feels really comfortable. Besides that, the coconut tree beside the hotel makes us feel like we are beside the beach...especially when the wind blows and the leaves starting to make sound. Things that I wanted to give 5 stars but can't, is the water temperature in the shower. The hot water can only last for a few minutes and then no matter how we try to turn it back on, it just won't. Parking space is also quite an issue here. They do not have a private parking place, the only option is the parking beside the road (with proper parking box of course).

Nice little hotel not far from the city center”

The Rucksack Caratel is a little hotel not far from the city center and just next to the hill. We had booked the Premier Deluxe King room with the view to the garden. The room was clean, but a little bit small. Probably the rooms at the corners of the building are a bit more spacious. It was also a bit weird, that the people walking and working in the garden were able to look into the room because the windows are large and you can only cover them up with a black louvre. Some light, white curtains would be better for the day. We liked the small pool and the nice lemon water for free. Breakfast was ok, but not overwhelming. Would choose the hotel again, when coming back.

A pretty ”

Cleanliness, location,value for money

It was an amazing place. A small place yet so much to offer. Free flow of coffee, biscuits, breakfast, pool and so tastefully decorated rooms. Our room was on the ground floor where the social activities takes place. The first night there were children playing and making noise into late night, making us difficult to sleep. We made a feedback to Kenny and it was taken care of the following night. We want to thank Kenny for taking time to listen and attending to our concern. With such service provided it made Rucksack Caratel a very comfortable and pleasant place to stay. Will surely come back and will recommend this place to our friends. Thank you.

Hipter-ish hotel right in the middle of Malacca”

It's a hip and stylish hotel, friendly and helpful staff, great location.

Everything was smooth during our 3-day stay at the Rucksack Caratel. Every corner of this hotel has something interesting and cool to offer. From the rooms, to its lobby including the outdoor area. This hotel's design was well thought of. The staffs were very friendly and helpful. The location, which is just about 5 minutes from eveywhere is just a bonus. Frankly, you wouldn't mind hanging out in this hotel all day long! Overall, this hotel is a great value for money. It is highly recommended.

Clean, new and excellent location ”

We wanted a place away from the crowds and the Rucksack Caratel was quiet yet a short 5-10 min walk from the hustle and bustle. Loved that the window overlooked a nice garden. Shower was hot, or cold.. Great for arriving back after a hot sweaty walk under the relentless sun and humidity. Bed was firm and comfortable, just enough space to walk around and place the shopping in. You could see the amount of detail put into the construction and design of this place. A pity there was no refrigerator in the room, but I noticed that there was one at the reception that you can put your drinks/cakes in and stick your name on so I guess you can ask at the reception. All in all a fantastic stay and I will definitely return!

Rucksack Caratel...the good place tk stay”

One of the best place to stay if you want to discover Malacca. Near to the Stadthuys building and also the red building and Jonker Street. It took about 10mins walking from this hotel to those attractions. Staff are friendly, warm and cosy place to stay. Breakfast is light and won't bombared your stomach with lots of choices. Enough with simple bread with cheese, butter, jam and probably nasi lemak or fried meehon. Room is clean and cosy. And mind you, each room is different then the others. Tip: do look at their size of room for further satisfaction. For those who drive, there are some parking space provided. Well, it's quite limited thou. So, if you want to have a stay at Malacca, do try and check out Rucksack Caratel.

I had a wonderful time at the rucksack caratel. The location is excellent, tucked away In a quiet spot just a short walk from the historical delights of Malaka. The hotel itself is a clean and comfortable place, with a quirky humorous character that is vibrant and relaxing. The room was a good size With big windows, quality fixtures and fittings, air conditioning and a good shower. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this place.

Lovely Weekend Stay”

Loved our stay at Rucksack and will definitely stay again and recommend to our friends. It's a hip and modern boutique hotel tucked away from the weekend crowd. We had a hard time finding it at first as it was located away from the main street. Yet, there's a short cut going to Red Square which is about a 5 min. walk. Jonker Street is approx. a 10 min. walk. Not bad. Breakfast food was great as they had a lot of selection. 24/7 unlimited tea and coffee were a bonus too. Room and bed were clean, comfy and had a great view. The staff were very accommodating and helpful. Overall, it was a weekend well spent in Rucksack Caratel.

Just leave your car and do some walking towards jonker st/dataran mall/river cruise etc etc.. everything is just a walking distance to enjoyed the scenary. Do have an umbrella handy with you especially traveling with small children. Clean and simple cosy room with small swimming pool for a quick dipped in. Simple breakfast provided. (For Fussy Eater-Please have your breakfast out of the hotel-plenty of breakfast choice in jonker st) Wish that the Jacuzzi Suite room have more chairs like the Premier Deluxe King. 24hrs Friendly & helpful Staffs (Thumb up for that) 10minutes Walking distance to Jonker St & most places between 10-30minutes walk (convenient area) Abit expensive during peak holidays but Overall - am satisfied with my stay.

A road trip with bestie made simple!”

I made a trip to Melaka with my besties. Made a choice to stay at Rucksack and was hoping it will not need me to drive around so much as I always find that the road in Melaka is kind of narrow. True enough, Rucksack is just a short walking distance to Jonker street. So convenient. Just a stone throw away, there were some stalls selling souvenirs. The hotel is clean, staff are really nice and attentive. Room is nice, simple, and VERY CLEAN! No wardrobe though....but not an issue at all, there's a rack for clothings that needed to be hung. Breakfast is simple, but hey, who needs a full flash breakkie when good food is just a stone throw away....haha. I especially love the lobby area, the retro decor...there's even a pool there. You can rent a bike from them for as low as RM10 per day. No regrets at all!

Place was really great! Friendliest staff and very initiative. My partner enjoyed the cosy and family oriented ambience. To our surprised, there were cats and we are both cat lovers! As a couple, we prefer to travel to places by car. The hotel is a little difficult to find since there are no obvious sign that a hotel is in that location. It is definitely a hidden gem but I wish you could put a signboard to indicate "the rucksack caratel is this way" but if you're using public transport perhaps it is easier and for those who drove, you guys might wanna be patient in searching this place.
