Great place for stopping on the way up !”
I was cycling and spending the night at an higher point on this huge mountain gave me a little advantage to start from next morning. The dormitories are just a small portion of this hotel but, widest capsule style beds I ever seen in Japan. Perfect location if you’re going to Izu (Izunokuni) or Mishima next !

From Singapore, visited in April 2016.”
Amazing amazing place!! The room was very clean, the staff were warm & friendly. We had a beautiful view of the mountain from our room. The onsen, oh the onsen! Love how it was so zen and private (possibly because there were not many guests when we were there). For those travelling to Japan for the first time and would love to experience Japanese culture in a ryokan, this is the place to go! Nearest station is Yugawara and you'll need to take a bus down (it's quite a number of stops away or if you'd like to walk, it's around 15-min walk from the train station). We can't read Japanese so we figured out where to stop by matching characters of the bustop names on Google Map with that at the bus station / on the bus. After alighting, brace yourself for a steep walk up to the ryokan - a perfect way to burn all that sashimi calories! The bustop near this ryokan also serves buses that go to Hakone for day trips to see Mount Fuji from Lake Ashi. Overall, we had a lovely time here and wished we stayed longer. Definitely visiting this place the next time we're in Japan!

Excellent”
My friend and I stayed in the dormitory, which was clean and very comfortable. Although it was more expensive than the other places we've stayed, it was a fairly cost effective was to get the Ryokan experience. The public bath was good. The hotel is not ideally located, situated at the top of a steep hill close to Yugawara. However, it's possible to see the local area, either using the hotel shuttle bus to Yugawara (which runs at 9, 10am and then back to the hotel at 4, 5pm) or the public transport. There are bus stops at the bottom of the hill so that you can easily get to Yugawaran until about 9 or 10pm, and sometimes to Hakone. A taxi from Yugawara station to the hotel cost us about ¥1800. Overall, we enjoyed our stay.

Nice ryokan with friendly staff”
Nice and vibrant ryokan décor, every corner in the ryokan is perfect for photo taking. Room is spacious, clean and well maintained. Ryokan staffs are friendly and helpful. Location is a bit far from Yugawara train station but with the free shuttle service, it's not a problem at all.

Great hostel do discover Japanese culture!”
The hostel is new and very modern, with a very singular atmosphere (a lot of efforts have been put in the decoration). It's super relaxed, you can sit at the japanese style table and enjoy the view on the mountains with a free coffee / tea and use the powerful wifi (it's rare enough to mention it). Or you can try caligraphy. It cost us 500yen but that was worth it, Shizuka and Kenta were very patient and showed us how to write what we wanted. Fun experience ! The lavatory is super clean and the massive natural bath is at 40 degrees, straight from the hot springs ! We had diner and breakfast there and a few drinks, everything was good. Shizuka even taught us how to make Onigiri for breakfast! Try to look in advance where exactly the hostel is so you don't get lost (when reaching Yugawara train station, it's just a few minutes away by bus). Not so many things to do in Yugawara but some good walks around and Hakone is really close. I would recommend this hostel to everyone

Excellent ryokan experience ”
We got the Japanese style room which was very nice, take into consideration that it's traditional and you sleep in futons. The onsen was good. The staff was really nice and drive us from and to the yugawara station. The only thing is that it's a little far from the city center but on the other hand you go there to relax in the hot springs and have some quite winding down time so not really an issue

Nice modern Ryokan”
We stayed three nights with our Kids and shared a family room. It was enough space. The loved to wear kimonos during their stay in the hotel. The onsen also was very nice. The hotel is up in the hills of Yugawara, so you have to use the hotel shuttle (onlly 2 times a day) or taxi. The staff was very friendly and speaks good english too. We had breakfast and dinner included and the food was awesome!!

Exceptional”
A little tricky to find the place. The place is situated on top of hill. However they do provide shuttle services from Yugawara station. Overall good experience.

Best hostel I have EVER stayed!!!”
I am a backpacker and I make a mistake in booking of this hotel because I plan to go Hakone that day...... But everything I had here is just AMAZING!!! It is a bit hard to come to this place. It cost me a lot of money and time and also some energy of hiking to the hotel. The staffs speak very good English, and they are friendly and informative. The decoration is fantastic. I can learn different Japanese culture within every little part of the hotel, from hot spring, breakfast, cosplay, clothes, etc. I am the only male guest that day so I can enjoy the whole hot spring. Wow. The view of the building is great. I cant believe that I just used 3000 Yen for a dorm in this wonderful hotel. The bed of dorm is extremely comfortable. The view of that district is very nice. Actually the location of hotel is not that bad at all, as it provides shuttle to JR station upon check in and out. The GM even drive me to have very good sushi. I truely wish that I could stay there for longer period if I didnt book the hostel in Fuji. Tingyen is a very nice staff. I hope I could see you in Taiwan!

Awesome stay! Loved the decor!”
This stay was awesome! It's a little bit out of the way but totally worth it. The hotel has its own onsen, you get to pick your own kimono to wear, the view was spectacular and room was impeccably decorated & very authentic. We were supposed to get up early and head to Hakone but enjoyed the room so much we stayed at the hotel until lunch time. It is a bit away from the subway (you'll need a taxi) but the hotel had a shuttle and were more than happy to drive us in to town when they had a free moment (at no cost)!

Great Amenties not the best Location”
I'm a solo traveler without a car. So it was hard to go places. However, if you stay at the ryokan the food is great, and the staff was very friendly. The onsen was small, but nice. It was very clean, and one of the best hostel beds I've slept in.

Thank you for staying with us and giving us such a heartwarming feedback. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay here. We now have new cafe menu as well as some dessert, which must make you satisfied again! Please drop in on us when you come to Japan. The Ryokan Tokyo
Excellent authentic stay”
We loved our stay here. The staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. We loved that we all dressed up in traditional Japanese clothes, there were even outfits for the children. I loved the healthy and tasty food. Definitely get the dinner included as you are far from anywhere to eat but more importantly because it is delicious. Best Sushi I had in Japan! The baths were lovely and the decor is very nice. It is far from town though so you have to rely on taxis or the hotels free shuttle bus. One morning we decided to rent a car. The staff helped to direct us to the car hire shop. Hiring a car was brilliant and enabled us to travel all around the area and Mount Fuji. Really loved our stay here.

Cozy place with modern sense”
some believes Onsen tours are like staying in a historic house with a well-maintained garden and having decent sea-food and it would be older people's entertainment, but it's not in this place. the historical place gets going with more modern style and they even have a dorm room. the bar and resto was very relaxing and the atmosphere and i would be back again. if you really have some luggage do not even think about taking a bus, just take a shuttle or taxi because the way from the bus stop is very steep even thought it is not far like 400meters.

Really cool place to stay - and enjoy nature's beauty”
Had a misunderstanding over the pickup arrangement (please book with them in advance!) but you cannot stay unhappy for long in this gem of a place. They offer to let us check out later to make up for the late check in, and we enjoy every minute of the extended stay! The onsen was good, food was good, service was excellent, room was comfortable. Had a walk to the streets downhill and took a bus to Daikan'yama Sky Lounge. Highly recommended side trip. Lovely view of Mt Fuji on a good day. Highlight of our entire trip!

Spacious”
Very Quite hotel perhap is the LOW season. location is hard to find even with GPS. we are lucky to get help from a.local restaurant owner. she even brought us to the hotel. we appreaciated the kindness of the hotel management to waive off the 150 yen taxes each as these charges were not highlighted during our booking

Great hotel with a stylish accommodation, not easy to find the hotel while at the night time . Difficulty to drive when using the GPS or self phone Google GPS . Spent another 20 minutes to find other way to hotel while the road can't let the Nissan X trail in .

W Tsui ”
The overall experience is good, the staffs are very friendly. The place is on the top of hills, you need to walk up 15 mins up hill to get the Ryokan, that was biggest draw back.

Everything is good but the location ”
We got a good price to stay. Staffs are excellent, lobby is beautiful. But room is too tight to fit 4 persons and the 10-min-hiking to hotel was killing us. This would be a good ryokan for backpackers.

Beautiful place to stay”
Very nice hotel, with great service and very friendly staff. Location is beautiful but a bit off-track; although the train station and Hakone can be easily reached by the bus which goes every 15 minutes. Great place to relax and enjoy the quiet surroundings!
