Great accommodations that won't break the bank”
if you're planning to stay at the tsim sha tsui area, then the ymca salisbury hotel is highly recommended. it offers great value for money considering its location, and depending on the type of room you book, it affords you a view of the victoria harbor, which nearby 5-star hotels also offer at a considerably higher price. and while it would be unfair to compare the ymca salisbury to such 5-star hotels in terms of luxury and style, it nevertheless offers more than just the basics and affords one a pleasantly homey, cozy stay. the rooms are big enough and well-appointed, although i was a bit disappointed that they do not have a bidet in the toilet. other than that, there isn't anything else i could complain about in our room. no moldy smells, the room was cleaned & made up every day, plus they also gave us a welcome fruit basket on our first day, and daily rations of the english-language paper, south china morning post. cable tv could use a few more english-language channels, but one doesn't come to hong kong to watch tv anyway, so that's not too much of a big deal. since our hong kong trip this time was basically for shopping, i found that the ymca salisbury is just perfect for it, since it is just a few minutes walk away from the harbour city stretch as well as the countless outlets, boutiques and malls of nathan road, canton road and the side streets up to granville. it is also a mere 5 to 10 minute leisurely walk to the star ferry terminal, where you can board a ferry to hong kong island for more shopping in the central and admiralty areas. the ferry is a cheaper but more fun way to get to central instead of the ever efficient mtr. speaking of which, the ymca salisbury is linked by an exit to the east tsim sha tsui mtr line and consequently, the tsuen wan mtr line as well, so getting around is not a problem. staff were warm & helpful (by hong kong standards), from the ladies in the front desk & the gentlemen in the concierge, to the housekeeping s
Modest luxury with phenomenal service”
We stayed at the YMCA Salisbury Hotel while waiting for the next day's flight. The hotel was easily reachable via Tsim Sha Tsui Subway Station Exit L4. Front desk was immensely helpful -- staff was friendly and made sure a porter was escorting us to the room. We had a great view of the harbour from our room. Bed, carpet, and bathroom was cleaned meticulously. There was a problem with the hot water though; however, room service responded promptly, inspected the faucet, called maintenance, who also responded promptly. All in all, it took just 10-minutes for everything to be resolved. Continental breakfasts are served in the lobby restaurant, but we ate at the buffet on the fourth floor instead. We did this for one obvious reason: fantastic food and decor with a view. The best and worst experience with the YMCA Salisbury ended with me leaving my passport in the room's safety deposit box. My own darn fault, but the staff contacted me repeatedly (as well as agoda) until they were able to notify me of what I'd left. Very reassuring. I'd highly recommend the YMCA Salisbury if you're looking to relax in a good location. The rooms are affordable, and the service clearly outdoes many other pricier options I've experienced in Hong Kong.
Best value-for-money hotel in HKG”
it was with some apprehension that i booked at the ymca salisbury hotel. i have been to hong kong many times before, but have always stayed at 4-star and 5-star properties. i had heard so many complimentary things from travelers about the ymca that i decided to book a stay there in early february. on arrival at the hotel driveway, there were no porters to assist with the luggage or usher us to the reception desk. notwithstanding, the reception staff was very courteous and efficient. though we had checked-in at noon, our room was immediately made available to us. we booked a twin room with a partial harbour view and the view of the victoria harbour and 1881 heritage was much appreciated. the room is of average size and the bathroom is smallish, but i had no great expectations when i arrived at this hotel. the beds were reasonably comfortable, wi-fi was free, and there's also a wide selection of cable channels available on the flat screen tv. add to this a free daily newspaper and daily breakfast (included with hotel package), and there is nothing much more to expect, considering the daily room rate charged. the breakfast room on the fourth floor affords a pleasant panoramic view of victoria harbour and the hotel's surroundings. service is prompt, courteous and efficient. if there is one thing the hotel can improve on, it's the variety of the breakfast buffet. the daily selection was the same during the five days that we dined. also, the addition of certain items like fruit jams, honey, lactose-free milk, and whole wheat bread would be most welcome. the ymca salisbury shares the same ideal location in tsim sha tsui (tst) as its highly-esteemed neighbor, the peninsula hotel. access to public transportation (mrt, star ferry) is very convenient. major shopping malls (harbour city, isquare mall, silvercord, art mall) and dining places are all an easy walking distance away. the ymca salisbury is my hands down choice for the best value-for-money hotel in hong
Nice People in the Right Place...”
this hotel represents great value sitting nicely as it does right by some major public transport links and within walking distance of several major sites and main streets in hong kong. the room was an unfussy small single that had slight elements of a dormitory feel but perfectly comfortable and clean for my few nights site-seeing in hong kong. the public areas of the hotel are very well appointed and the accompanying staff were nothing short of brilliant every time i asked for assistance or directions. the hotel had a very calm atmosphere and i had no issues with noise. the breakfast is a large international buffet style with food ranging from local specialities to full english and continental type choices as well. the staff in the restaurant kept me well topped up with tea and coffee as i looked out onto the tsim sha tsui area. both the pool and the gym were welcome additions but as this is a ymca they both have more of a ‘public’ feel to them rather than a health club or hotel ambience but there inclusion for the price in this area makes this a minor issue for me. i would look to book here again if coming back to hong kong – the quality of it for the price means it is often booked up well in advance though – so plan ahead to stay here.
Value for money hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui”
My taxi driver was able to locate Salisbury Hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui right away. Check-in and check-out was fast and efficient. Staff was courteous. The room (and hallways) was clean. I ordered from their room service menu, and was surprised because of their large serving. Buffet breakfast needs more variety though. Salisbury Hotel is near the high-end shops in Tsim Sha Tsui, the Hong Kong Space Museum, Hong Kong Museum of the Arts, Clock Tower, Garden of the Stars, and the MTR station in Tsim Sha Tsui and East Tsim Sha Tsui. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel.
A Very Practical Hotel ”
i enjoyed my stay in hong kong and a big part of it was because of the hotel. ymca is conveniently located in tsim sha tsui- near the mtr and the shopping haven in nathan road. it is also located in a relatively more peaceful neighborhood of hong kong. but a few steps down, you'll also experience the vibrant energy. the lobby of the hotel is decorated as if it were a log cabin making it feel cozy inside. there are only 2 elevators that will get guests to the rooms and these 2 elevators aren't exactly the newest and the fastest but it's tolerable. we were allowed to check in early and we were given a basket of fresh fruits upon our arrival. the rooms were always tidied every time we got back from our hk escapades. though the rooms aren't exactly big, it was spacious enough for two. the price for a standard room in ymca is just affordable and very practical especially for young travelers like me.
Excellent hotel and great value for money”
in my opinion, the ymca salisbury hotel is one of the best value hotels in hong kong. it is located right next to the much more expensive peninsula hotel in tsim sha tsui and is very close to the shopping areas in tst, the subway system(called the mtr) and also to the star ferry that goes over to hong kong island. the hotel is clean and modern and the rooms are very nice. it is in an unbeatable location and you would be hard pressed to find a better hotel at this price in such a prime location. would definitely stay again
The Salisbury – YMCA of Hong Kong”
We decided to book a room at YMCA Hotel because there are a lot of positive reviews in many websites. We booked for a Harbour View room for two nights, but they upgraded it to a Harbour View Suite when we checked-in. We stay on the 13th floor and the view from both the bedroom and the living room is spectacular! The suite isreally new and clean (I believe they just renovated it), very large, and has all the things we need (2 TVs, a small fridge, welcome fruits, etc.) The bathroom, changing room, bedroom, and living room are all separated. It has totally wiped the image of small, cramped hotel room in Hong Kong out of our head. It is really a bliss when you came back from an all-day long train-bus-foot sightseeing trip and you can just lay yourself into the warm water in the bath tub. The YMCA Hotel location is really good. It is located near Peninsula and Sheraton on Nathan St. The hotel itself is located on Salisbury St. There are Space Museum and Museum of Art on the opposite side of the street. You can also easily walk to the Clock Tower and Avenue of Stars. There is an MTR entrance on the side of the hotel. The Star Ferry pier to Hong Kong island is also not far from the hotel. You can hop on the K2 line shuttle bus from Airport Express and hop off at Peninsula to get to YMCA Hotel. The hotel staffs are very friendly and fluent in English. You can also keep your luggage at the hotel after check-out and come back to pick it up later. We TOTALLY RECOMMEND it! :)
Salisbury / YMCA Hong Kong - Location Location Location”
We have stayed at the Salisbury/YMCA on 4 separate trips to Hong Kong. Situated on the Kowloon side, it is close to the Star Ferry, and all the things a tourist/traveller would want to see. All accommodation in Hong Kong is really a ‘get what you pay for’ type of outcome, so I really suggest you research what you want to see and stay close to that. The trains (MTR) are within a short walk so travel to Hong Kong Island is easy. If you get a visa to mainland China, a trip to Shenzhen is worth it if you are wanting to save money on clothing, electrical goods, etc. BIG TIP for those on a tight budget: The Free shuttle bus service from the Airport Train service drops you off at the rear of the Peninsula Hotel at the intersection directly opposite the Salisbury/YMCA. Very Convenient but you must carry your luggage about 20 metres from the drop off point to the hotel. The Money Changer in the street behind the hotel gives the best exchange rates I could find.
Good Service • Basic Ameneties • Great Location ”
The Salisbury at Tsim Sha Tsui is highly recommended for those who want to stay in the area of Tsim Sha Tsui. Every time my family and stay around Tsim Sha Tsui “The Salisbury” is our first choice. We’ve stayed here more than 12 times. Good Service: We’ve booked 2 rooms this visit. The people at reception is friendly and give a good information. Special mention to Eric at the front desk, he has been so professional in providing us info about the hotel facilities and attractions available. Eric is also very friendly and kind. Amenities: Basic amenities are provided but the hair dryer is built in and the power is very low it could hardly dry my hair. Excellent Location: There are plenty of tourist attractions within walking distance: 1. Cultural Center 2. Planetarium 3. Star Ferry 4. Avenue of Stars 5. Heritage 1881 6. Shopping Malls - Star Harbour & K10 7. Night Market is 5-10 minutes by MTR (subway) 8. Outdoor dining concept at Knutsford Terrace
Comfort, Relaxed, Satisfied”
YMCA Salibury is the best deal in Hong Kong, Kowloon side!!! Need not think more, the location of the hotel is just at the tip of Kowloon Peninsula, near Star Ferry, Tsim Sha Tsui MTR, the TST Promenade, Avennus of Stars, etc.. everything just a few steps away!!! We are very happy, YMCA upgraded us to a Partial Harbour View. I know I only booked Premium Standard, but they gave us a room with the view!! So nice!! We will definitely return to YMCA Salisbury and even recommend this anyone visiting HK!!! :)
What does the Y stand for again?”
The YMCA-Salisbury Hotel could not be further from my preconceived image of a Young Man's Cristian Association hostel. Also known as the Salisbury Hotel, the late art deco building stands on one of the most valuable pieces of real estate, a couple of hundred meters from the famous Star Ferry terminal, even less to the nearest MTR subway station and within easy walking of lots of shops and restaurants. Some rooms have views or partial views of the famous harbour and you can even watch the nightly light show whilst listening to the synchronized music on your hotel radio. By either ferry or subway you can be on Hong Kong Island in a few minutes so there is not downside to locating on the Kowloon side rather than Hong Kong proper. Rooms and bathrooms immaculately clean with snacks and drinks (even beer) in the mini bar and the TV had good sports and news channels in many languages. Discount vouchers are given for the famous restaurant and carvery and also for the very nice coffee shop breakfast bar on the ground floor. I didn't use the pool although there was one. I could not recommend the Salisbury enough, if there was one point of criticism it was that there was nowhere to smoke throughout the whole place - definitely not in the rooms, but I suppose to most people this is another plus.
Very impressed with YMCA Salisbury”
The hotel location is the first attraction. YMCA Salisbury is located nearby Penninsula Hotel and Heritage 1881. Not far from star ferry pier, symphony of lights, Harbour city, Canton road, Nathan road and 2 MTR stations (Tsim Sha Tsui and East Tsim Sha Tsui). This hotel has spacious room and baht room has a big bathtub. All staffs are very friendly and have good service mind. I will go back to this hotel again and would like to recommend to all family to visit. In addition, the price is acceptable via Agoda.
Position, Position, Position”
We were given an upgrade on arrival so instead of a partial harbor view we had the full thing. Wow! If you haven't been to Hong Kong a harbor view is worth a little splurge. The breakfast was beyond my expectations as you could choose a Continental,Chinese or Western style meal. The background music was unobtrusive but if you happen to have been brought up in a Christian home you may find yourself humming along with some very familiar tunes as you eat breakfast. Don't be put off by this, if you are not 'churchy' to you it will probably only sound like a relaxing tune. There is a school in the building and as an retired teacher it was a delight to see beautifully uniformed, quiet and orderly young children walk across the foyer on the way to class with their teachers. An small insight into the lives of some Hong Kong families. Closeness to the Star ferry, MTR and Ocean Terminal(the international cruise port) is a huge plus. Kowloon Park, Temple Street, Nathan Road and the Jade Market are all in walking distance. It is easy to get to from the airport by taking the Airport Express to Kowloon station and then the free shuttle bus(K2) to the Peninsula Hotel. The Salisbury YMCA is right next door when you get off the shuttle and a very pleasant hotel for everyone from backpackers to fusspots.
always a delight to stay at the Salisbury YMCA”
We have heard that the Salisbury YMCA is Hong Kong's best kept secret which is certainly true except that it seems to be no longer a secret as it is necessary to book way in advance and one is extremely fortunate to get accommodation there. The location is fantastic - right opposite the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, a very short walk to the Star Ferries and the amazing Harbour City shopping Mall and astounding views of the river - a perfect viewing point for the nightly sound and light show at 8.00 pm. It is right next door to the 5 star Peninsula Hotel which really says it all !!!! The staff are very helpful and friendly and the breakfasts are superb. The rooms are not large but are very clean and comfortable with all the amenities one needs. This visit we were upgraded to a room with full harbour view which was most acceptable. We visit Hong Kong every year and desperately hope that we can stay at the Salisbury each time.
Exceptional”
The Salisbury Hotel is highly recommended for those who want to stay in the area of Tsim Sha Tsui. We stayed here for 4 nights. This hotel is located in the Tsim Sha Tsui area which is a really convenient area on the Kowloon side. Easy connection from the HK Airport Express and transit by MTR or Star Ferry to the HK side. Nathan Street is two blocks away and loads of shopping in the immediate vicinity. The hotel is clean, safe and has great amenities like a reasonable restaurant in the lobby. The people at reception are friendly and give good information. Room was very clean and the room came with a complimentary fruit basket, and coffee and tea facilities! The request for extra teabags was no problem. Good wifi. Bed was very firm and comfortable. Would stay here again anytime.
Very friendly staff, great location, room was nice”
our family had a great time staying at ymca salisbury hotel. the front desk staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. the room size was adequate with sufficient room to move around. there's a welcome fruit basket waiting for us when we got to the room and the daily newspapers are a welcome addition. hotel's location is near the major tourist attractions in tsim sha tsui and are easily within walking distance. we had a great time staying in ymca and the room rate is very reasonable too.
Perfect Location”
my mom, my three year-old son,and i stayed at ymca for one night and focused our sightseeing in tsim sha tsui as we planned to stay in another hotel in hong kong island for the rest of the trip. we were able to go back to the hotel room after sunset and refreshed ourselves for the symphony of lights. it only took 5 min. walk to go back to the sight and also very close to the star ferry terminal where you can get on a ferry either to central or wan chai for a great view without spending a lot of money for night cruise.
A winning choice. What's not to like?”
As a first time guest at Salisbury hotel, I was very impressed. YMCA reportedly used to be a 'lower end' hotel for families. Now it's been upgraded, with matching price increase. I stayed at a family suite on the 7th floor. All in all, our family of 10 booked 2 suites and two double rooms with no breakfast. Check in was efficient and easy, even if I forgot to bring my hotel voucher. Spacious. Picture windows on both rooms. Spotlessly clean bathrooms. Complete amenities. Flat screen TV in each room. Tastefully furnished with gray taupe accents. It gave off a relaxing vibe with beautiful views of high end Salisbury road shops and nearby harbor. Fruit basket was a nice touch. Separate dressing room, personal safe, and full length mirror. The king sofa bed was surprisingly comfortable to sleep on. The king bed was huge and inviting. Quiet enough at night. Huge double curtains provided complete darkness if needed. We never heard noise from the street. This is a place suitable for all kinds of international travellers. Pluses: Accessibility to the ferry and public transportation, as well as the posh ambience, because it sits beside the Peninsula Hongkong, and nearby shopping street Canton Road, and Harbour city shopping mall. We received 10% discount vouchers for the buffet breakfast which helped a little. I would love to stay here again next time because of its casual elegance, reliable staff, hearty breakfast buffet with a view, neatness, and most of all, location. Minuses: I only wish the prices were lower, but great experiences sometimes can cost more. It's still priced lower compared to the rest of the Hongkong hotels in prime locations (but way pricier than YMCA Orchard in Singapore). A wonderful experience for all of us.
YMC A Salisbury Experience”
My stay in YMCA Salisbury in Hong Kong can be summed up to be pleasant. Unfortunately before we even got into our room there were already some issues. The 1st thing that I smelled when I got to the lobby is chlorine. It was kinda strong and it made me feel like I was in the swimming area. Another thing that made me worry was that our room was given to us quite long. We arrived there around 1130 and they gave us our room around 130 even if we have already made reservations. Anyway those were the only things that needs to be improved. The stay in the room was good. It had fruits ready, extra pillow and an extra blanket. The staff was also friendly enough to give us extra towels and shampoo an hour before we checked out. The location of YMCA is very convenient. It is near the harbor and close to the MRT station. Peninsula Hong Kong is just across the street. You don't have to worry about going to central to buy LV and Gucci. It is right next door.
