A GREAT RESORT FOR ALL THE FAMILY”

Location of Khao Lak is a bit out of the way - it is about 100 kms to the north (on the mainland) from Phuket Airport. Currently taxi operators charge around 1600 baht to get you to Khao Lak. Return trip is 2000 baht ex the hotel. The resort itself is at the end of the "strip" of shops/restaurants etc. that make up the township of Khao Lak, and is well signposted. We hired a car at the Phuket airport which was just the thing for our personal circumstances. Khao Lak was fairly easy to get to once we put on Google Maps, and road was very good (excellent). Plenty of parking is available at the hotel for hire cars etc. Check in was easy and quick, before a drive in their cart to our room with our luggage (and us). We were very pleased with our room, which was a Junior Suite with access to pool, lovely way to relax on the deck of the pool/room. Room is very airy and light and very clean and there was always complimentary water supplied - staff do a great job here, although one negative was that the couch in the room was not all that comfortable - it is also very low to the ground. Bed and pillow were really comfortable and suited us. The grounds are huge, and very well maintained, couldn't fault anything here at all. Plenty of activities for guests to do both inside and outside. There are a few areas of children, each one seems to cater for a different age group - and seem to be always staffed. There is a separate "joy" pool for children, which has slippery slide into the pool etc. The gym is one of the best equipped gyms I have ever come across in any of the hotels we have stayed in throughout Asia. It seems to have multiples of just about anything you would find in any working gym. At the end of the property is the beach area. The hotel has built a retaining wall fro the beach to the grassed area of the property. Many guests enjoy the walk along the beach when the tide is out. Many relaxing outdoor beds are provided for guests also all along the wall/bea

Awesome end to our travels”

Everything, everything, everything

We had been looking forward to staying at The Sands since we discovered it on an afternoon walk last time we were in Khao Lak. It did not disappoint! We kept an eye on room rates and to be able to stay in a Junior Suite including breakfast is amazing value. Our room was huge, comfortable and spotless. The resort is in a beautiful location right on the beach, beautiful, perfectly maintained grounds, beautiful facilities and beautiful food in the restaurants. Staff at both restaurants were so friendly. Breakfast at the Floating Market restaurant had everything you could imagine. We did walk just up the beach to Peter Bar for a cheaper dinner two nights which we recommend and also to the amazing Phukhaolak at the southern end of the Khao Lak mainy. I loved my morning gym session and there are beach runs and yoga classes you can join in too. The kids loved the Kids Club and activities as well as the slippery dip into the Joy pool. The resort is flanked by coconut palm plantation that is alive with fire flies in the evening. They even fly down onto the beach. Magical! We rate our stay at 11/10. Loved it! We had our own transport and loved our drive up to White Sands Beach about 10km north. We also did a day tour out to the stunning Koh Ta Chai in the Similian Islands.

Positives and Negatives”

The Sands is great option for your stay in Khao Lak but it is important to note that this resort is LARGE. We got a room close to reception as the pool, kids pool, beach, breakfast was all a little walk away. We also found the pool area pretty noisy with all the people around so upgraded to a room with a private pool area which was really lovely. Another point was that the interconnecting rooms were NOISY, we had horribly noisy neighbours till midnight - so make sure to ask for a room that doesn't have an interconnecting door. Staff are lovely, kids club is amazing, babysitting cheap, breakfast is yummy and well organized. Kids pool area is lots of fun for the little ones and the rooms are lovely. I didn't love the beach area very much and would probably stay higher up (at White Sands of Coconut Beach) at a smaller resort if we return to Khao Lak.

Comfortable, clean, reasonably priced ”

Comfortable bed, large pool, on the beach

I and my partner stayed at The Sands for two nights and the best thing about this hotel is the bed and pillows. It was so comfortable to the point we wouldn't want to leave our beds until late mornings. The staffs were alright, maybe it's only to us, but they didn't show much of an effort into assisting us, except for the male staffs. The breakfast was amazing with very large varieties of foods (Thai, American, etc) and they have two restaurants, one serves Thai cuisine while another offers seafood and international cuisine. The restaurants also offer special nights with cheap prices. The hotel itself is very modern designed and it gave us a very home feeling. Our room was Seaview junior suite, everything in the room is just like the pictures on website except for the size, it looks a little bigger in the picture. Since Khao Lak is a peaceful district/town, jet skis or any other types of motorized vehicles aren't allowed as they would disturb the order of nature. Overall, this hotel is great for its price.

Amazing expansive resort with beautifully manicured lawns and well thought out recreational areas.”

Unfortunately due to an emergency we had to cut short our 4 night stay to 2 nights. We stayed in a pool access room, and it was perfect, clean, well appointed and very relaxing. The grounds are very well kept with staff always sweeping and cleaning pathways. I did not use the pool areas, as we chose to drive to local waterfalls and beaches. There is a new large kids wet zone being constructed, and it looks very impressive. Breakfast was what you would expect, with a wide selection of options. I really don't have anything negative to say about the Sands in Khao Lak. I read a few negative reviews previously, but fail to agree with any. So either they were having a bad day or management have addressed these apparent shortfalls. But to keep a balance.... I found the water in our pool was a little warm 😆 Well done to the Management and Staff. I will return.

one of the best resorts for family with kids across the world.”

not only it is a beautiful resort but also one of the most tourist friendly places i have come across in recent times. the hospitality, beauty, comfort , facilities and food is fantastic. i have been across europe to mauritius to maldives, but never seen such a planned charismatic property at a price so affordable . it not only makes khao ;lak, a place to visit but revisit only to stay in the resort. no need to go outside the resort. kids have so many activities to do, baby pool, slides etc , fun zone is ultimate, . probably o nly thing lacking there is night life/club/disco/party for which the youngsters will crave for, as there isnt much in khao lak also. but over all, 9.5/10.. cheers.

Relaxing holiday in beachfront hotel”

Beautiful hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. The rooms are immaculately clean and spacious with excellent air conditioning. The grounds are very well maintained and also beautiful. Although children are welcome and very well catered for, if as us, you are an adult only party, there is an adult only area for breakfast (of which the food choice and quality is excellent), and an adult only pool. There is a splash zone pool for children which has slides etc, the hotel has direct access to the beach, which is nice to walk along once breakfast has settled. There is a very well equipped gym and daily group exercises if you require. Evening entertainment. Just a 5 minute walk away, the main road provides bars, restaurants, shops, etc, and a 5 minute taxi ride takes you to khao Lak centre, where you can experience the market 4 times per week, and sample the excellent street food. I would recommend the Sands to anybody. We had a fabulous time.

Cool stay with kids”

The hotel has many buildings. The South wing with pool access rooms on ground floor is the newest. Katathani group owners are doing their best branding it into a FAMILIES with CHILDREN oriented resort with quite nice Water Park with 3 children sliders and coolest Kids Club in the whole Khao Lak area. Was cool to stay here. Would give it a full flex 4 stars. Food outlets are quite good when occupancy of the resort is low. Price range of food and beverages is a fair ratio for tourists dining inside of hotels and resorts. Trained staff is definitely an asset.

My wife and I have stayed in 4+5 star throughout Thailand and the rest of Asia for several years. The Sands Khao Lak was/is hands down the best we have experienced. At the risk of sounding like an advertisement, the minute we walked in we felt at home. Staff location facilities and food were all first class and our 9 night stay was sensational. Do yourself a favour and check it out by checking in.

Great for kids ”

Just left The Dands Khao Lak after a two week stay. It is a really really nice resort. Our included buffet breakfast never failed us and there was always something different each day as well as all the usuals. Eggs everyway, bacon, beans, veggies as well as quite a few Thai options. There are 3 massive pools as well plunge pools for many of the rooms. We had a pool room and found it extremely comfortable. Semi seperate lounge room and large bathroom as well as a King size King - massive bed. We did ask for a second mattress topper as the bed was quite firm. It was fitted with no fuss that day and made a big difference. The pool access was unreal, and safe with its own glass fence with gate. You will get to know your neighbors too as the solid partition wall goes nearly to the ceiling- it is 100% visually private. Food options were really good - there is a themed food night every night and there is something for everyone - even a picky eater. Always kids menu / food available. Thr

Lovely room”

Easy walking distance of town

we enjoyed our stay at the sands. the room was very comfortable and we appreciated the pillow choice. we stayed in a pool access junior suite. it was lovely to be able to swim from the doorstep. there sort itself is a bit spartan as it is new. there are plenty trees but they are not yet established so provide little shade. however, there always seemed to be enough sun loungers with parasols by the pool and the beach. the staff were excellent. - extremely courteous and helpful. the food is reasonably priced and apart from the khao phad gai ( which had obviously been precooked) everything we ordered was good. the only down side is the architectural style very angular grey concrete accommodation blocks. they are very utilitarian in appearance despite the interior of the rooms being lovely. perhaps plants on the balconies would soften the appearance?

Great family hotel with good facilities and service”

A very good hotel for family. You can stay in the hotel without leaving it, with facilities that will keep you and your kids entertain: water slides, lazy river, free pool table, free table tennis table, just to name a few. The service is above average without being overwhelming. The food in the three in-house restaurants are tasty and at reasonable prices. If you are bored with the in-house restaurants, a 8 minute walk to the main road will lead you to many restaurants. All in all, I will stay in this resort if I ever go back to Khao Lak, honestly.

Beach, Room & Staff

After trekking through the Himalaya's this was our first big stop in Thailand and from the word go the experience was top level. Right from the team at the door to the staff at reception to the managers checking in with us during this experience did they want to make the stay top shelf. Opening the door to our room was almost like a paid advertisement with the golden rays of the sunset shining off the Andaman through to our pool in our Pool access Junior sweet. The room itself seem to appear from the glow and it was spotless and felt like you were at home straight away. The staff went out of their way to ensure you had a great time and within a few hours we were on a first name basis with the team. The pools were large, the beach on the doorstep and the food great. We were on the edge of shoulder season but did not encounter a cloud the whole time we were there. It was my first time to Khao Lak but to say this place set the bar high would be an understatement. The grounds are still new with a number of tree's still growing in. The grounds are huge and there is plenty of space if you have children, you can even feed the hundreds of fish in the pond (well big enough to be a lake). Overall an excellent stay in a very relaxed and friendly environment. I will be back.

Perfect Stay”

We have just returned from The Sands. We were on a family holiday to celebrate my sisters 50th. We were a mixed bag of adults and little children. We can not fault The Sands. The location is perfect for walking to the many near by restaurants and shops. The grounds are immaculate and staff so very helpful. There is the most amazing kids pool area that they have put in a location, where you can’t hear it from the rest of the resort. Although we don’t have kids, we went there anyway- so much fun to be had on the water slides and ring ride! There a several bars , that have happy hour at different times so you can bar hop if you like. The beach is absolutely stunning! Rooms far more spacious than they look on line. Breakfast buffet has EVERYTHING you could want and more and is very fresh every day. If you fancy a massage, I recommend Casi in the main strip- just a few minutes walk. In all, we were very impressed and would definitely recommend The Sands. Khob Khun Ka

Fabulous swim-out room”

Pool access room. Location to local town and restaurants.

We stayed 5 nights in a pool access room and would have liked to stay longer. Check in and check out both went smoothly, and all staff in housekeeping, maintenance and the restaurants were great. The bed was comfortable and the room was spacious. Our airconditioner broke down one night, but maintenance fixed it straight away. Our only issue was that we were unfortunate enough to witness some contractors in the hotel use a hammer to kill a giant lizard right in front of us. When we complained to the hotel the duty managers response was "Yes, and ...?". It was great staying in a hotel just a short walk from the wide range of eating places in Khao Lak.

Excellent! Only the first impression about the interior design of the hotel we felt it is very bland. However, service and other things keep us happy. The breakfast was excellent. There are utencils for kids without having to ask for. Good quality as well. Staffs are well trained. We have to say big thanks to the manager, khun Chamlong, who assisted us the the change date. The pool is a big joy for our kid, he loves the pool. It is Designed with the kids' safety in mind. Location is great near to khao lak centre. Room is nice and modern. Great for families with kids. Very clean, spacious etc... rooms very nice. We had a room with pool access which was great. Extra costs quite expensive as always in a resort like this, but well placed for the local town with many local restaurants and bars. Khao Lal very quiet, laid back, with beautiful forested mountains as a back drop and some national parks close by for jungle trekking etc.... Beach was fine, not as good as some I've seen in SE Asia and we mostly stayed in resort as the pools were great, but you have easy access for Similan Islands here, with their world class diving/snorkelling. Would definitely come back
