So glad we chose the Scotsman”
We were trying to decide between two hotels for our visit to Edinburgh for the last weekend of the Fringe Festival and Edinburgh Tattoo - their busiest time of the year. When looking at the photos of the two hotels, the Scotsman appealed to us more than the other from the decor. But the decider was that one of my daughters who, as a young college student 6 years earlier had visited Edinburgh with a friend, recognized the hotel and restaurant as the one which had welcomed them so warmly one evening, despite their obviously not being big spenders and being tired and hungry! We couldn't have made a better choice and they still welcome you very warmly. The location is terrific. We could walk everywhere but the shipyard. It's a beautiful old hotel with updated features like a luxurious bed and bathroom. We were travelling with 2 of our daughters who are in their 20s. Our room was on two levels, with the bedroom and bathroom upstairs. We had a beautiful view of Edinburgh and the castle. The downstairs windows looked out towards Calton Hill. The bathroom was HUGE with an excellent rainhead shower. (We didn't use the lovely bathtub) Our daughters' room included a sauna off their bathroom! From the moment we pulled up in the car the staff went above and beyond. Ivor drove with me to the parking spot, which is close to the hotel but required going around the block in heavy traffic. To make sure I didn't get lost or frustrated, he drove with me and showed me how to get in to the hotel from the lower level. The staff are all exceptional. Ivor went above and beyond the whole time, but Nick and the other bellman were wonderful too. The staff in the restaurant very accommodating and pleasant. We got to walk through the lobby of other hotel we had been considering and all of us agreed that we had picked the better hotel. We love the tartan fabrics (from Anta) on the wing chairs in the reception area and wood paneling. There are little reminders that this once house

Exceptional”
Our stay at The Scotsman Hotel was the best foot put forward at the onset of our day one of UK tour.location could not have been better. The amenities in the room were as royal as the City of Edinburgh. My stay would not have been this positive, if not for the Hotel Manager at that time. Mr Grant went out of his way to make my son and I comfortable. He was polite, helpful and ready to walk the extra mile at being professional at work. Edinburgh and Hotel Scotsman Hotel make the same memory stamp in our minds. no one should think twice before booking any hotel for Edinburgh stay. thank you Mr Grant from the core of our hearts.

Scotsman Hotel perfect location, perfect for Edinburgh!”
When entering the Scotsman you step back in time. Located in the former Scotsman newspaper building this hotel shares its sense of another time with its guests. The marble staircase and the Grand Cafe faced with beautiful marble throughout shows the grandeur of another era. I would recommend this hotel for its location close to the Royal Mile alone, the building is another selling point as well. This is an older building and it shows some signs of age but it is a masterpiece from a time before. Close to Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood Palace and Park the location could not be better. Situated in the Old Town perfect for exploring this gem of a city. Stay at the Scotsman and enjoy the trip back in time.

Great Stay in a very cold Spring”
When we first arrive, we were very surprise to find that there was no proper foyer to pull over to off-load our luggage and there is no carpark within its premise. The nearest carpark was about 7-10 minutes walk which we got a 30% discount from Scotsman and even then it was rather expensive with an average of GBP13-15 per day. Nevertheless, the hotel was in a very strategic location with just a 10 minutes walk to Edinburgh Castle as well as a good selection of restaurants, bars and shops of all kinds. The hotel came with a very good breakfast spread. The room was sizeable for UK standard, the bed was comfy, the bathroom was clean and more importantly the heating works (it was between -1 - 6 Degrees Celsius when we were there even though it was already Spring). The hotel staff were friendly and were always ready to provide advices, suggestions and directions whenever needed. The hotel is modern on the inside yet its historic, majestic and iconic look is maintained. This was 1 of the reason why I chose The Scotsman!

Great hotel in Edinburgh”
We spent two nights in Edinburgh after New Year and I am so happy that we picked The Scotsman Hotel. Location is fantastic, just across from the Waverley Station and three minutes walking to the Royal Mile then to the Edinburgh Castle. Our room, the Editor's Room, is spacious with big windows and all the amenities that you need. The hospitality is great. We will certainly return.

Visit to Edinburgh (to meet relatives and friends)”
It is the first time that I stayed at The Scotsman Hotel. The Hotel is beautiful. The room is clean, tidy and well-equipped. The location is convenient. I had a late check-in on 21 July 2017. The staff are friendly and helpful. I had breakfast at the Hotel. I like the fruits provided in the breakfast buffet. All these factors added more colours to my trip. ^^ I do not hesitate to recommend the Hotel to my friends. I hope to stay at the Hotel again when I travelled to Edinburgh next time!

Outstanding”
Visiting from the U.S., this was our first trip to Edinburgh and Scotland. We could not have asked for a lovelier place to stay. Perfect location off the Royal Mile and all the sights we wanted to see (Edinburgh castle, Holyrood, museums, etc.) and a minute from Waverly train station. Our room was fantastic with an enchanting turreted window that had a nice couch and complimentary drams of Scotch Whisky. Clean and beautiful, comfortable beds, fabulous bathroom, all the amenities, and the staff was helpful and professional. We will recommend to all our friends: Stay at the Scotsman!

Good stay”
The Scotsman is a lovely old hotel in an unbeatable location for accessing the sites of Edinburgh - located right between the train station and the Royal Mile. Reception staff were all lovely and helpful. Breakfast was good though the atmosphere is a little stiff; the bar in the basement was unappealing with terrible service. Room was very spacious and nice but could use some updating - including our mattress which has a big sink hole. Overall, however, the Scotsman offers an enjoyable stay in an incredible city.

Love this hotel!”
This is our second stay at the Scotsman. It was an amazing hotel in the heart of Edinburgh. Located on the North Bridge and just a block off the Royal Mile it is perfectly placed. It has the flavor of Scotland. Our room was a corner room on the 6th floor, it was clean, bright providing stunning views. The only surprise was the missing bar and restaurant and spa!! But we were told the new owner is working on it!!! Love this hotel, would stay every time I visit!

A cut above the rest”
The Scotsman hotel is perfectly situated in the heart of Edinburgh, perfect for a weekend of site seeing. The hotel itself was lovely inside, the rooms were a good size and spotless. The staff attentive and friendly. I would definitely return.

Comfortable and stylish”
Our stay at the Scotsman was fantastic as always, a happy returning customer. Only disappointment I have is booking through agoda as I won't be again. My reason for this is I wanted a cheap deal which I though I got then realising there was no breakfast included where as if I booked through the Scotsman directly I would have received a breakfast as they are included with each room. However agoda took this out of the deal making it not a cheaper deal at all. Spoke with staff from Scotsman and they don't understand why your selling rooms without breakfast when they are included if you book with Scotsman directly!

Charm and Location”
It would he hard to surpass The Scotsman for charm and location for tourists. The food is wonderful and staff so helpful -- I have stayed in a couple of other 5 star type hotels in Edinburgh and I am sorry I did not try the Scotsman sooner --It is the hotel of choice from here on!

Holiday couple”
After having spent a few days in Paris in a 14 sq m room and arriving at The Scotsman in a room that was 34 sq m was amazing. The whole experience of this hotel is fantastic from the condition of the room to the wonderful restaurant food and staff. We highly recommend this hotel. Edinburgh is such an historical city and so unique.

One of the best hotels I've ever stayed in... ever”
This is a really gorgeous hotel. Exterior, interior, guest rooms - everything. We only stayed one night, and checked in late, which was a pity because the room itself was so grand I wish I'd had more time to sit in the living room (it was a junior suite), drink a coffee and watch TV or read... incidentally the junior suite wasn't crazily expensive. Our rooms didn't include breakfast so we didn't eat any meals in the hotel. The other notable feature of the hotel was really superb gym and spa - we arrived early in the morning and couldn't check in but they let us use the spa to shower and change. We were then out the whole day finally got to check in at night - the next morning we went back to the spa to use the gym and it was amazing - a very complete gym with everything - weights, barbells, dumbbells, cardio... the works. Nice looking pool that we didn't get to try. Staff was amazing - wonderful concierge who was very helpful and knowledgeable. On our next trip to Edinburgh I want to stay here for at least 3-4 days so we can enjoy the hotel better.

Great hotel with excellent location”
We have stayed here for 3 days and we have a great stay! The hotel has an excellent location which is just 2 minutes walk from the train station! It is also close to most of the attractions and just 5-10 minutes walk from Prince Street. All shopping and sightseeing could be done within walking distance. The room itself is great and larger than expected. We requested for a quiet room on high or medium floor and we have what we wanted! The room was very comfortable to stay with a large, comfortable bed (maybe a bit short for taller ones, i am about 6 feet tall). The room is very very warm. It is very clean and tidy. The bath maybe a bit old though and water may be split outside if you are not careful enough. Overall it is a great hotel and we will definitely stay here again if we visit Edinburgh again.

Excellent stay with great location, but additional £15 per hour for late checkout distasteful”
The hotel is conspicuous and easy to find as it is just outside the Waverly station. Its grand and beautiful exterior is meticulously replicated in the interior of our hotel room. The pillow menu and two miniature bottles of whisky were the highlights of our check in. Unfortunately, we were disappointed that we were asked to pay an additional £15 per hour for every hour that we would like a late checkout. This aspect is not common in many good hotels and we believe that it will definitely generate much more goodwill if the Scotsman Hotel waives this in favour of its guests whenever convenient (ie no guests checking into that particular room yet).

Wonderful”
The staff is all fabulous. From the wonderfully helpful reception area (forgive me for not catching your name) young lady with a beautiful slavic accent who was incredibly helpful with suitcase storage, to the doorman who is the "face" of the Scotsman. Ideally located next to the bridge, Waverly station and within easy walking distance of the Royal Mile and easy access to Market street. The room was bright, clean and well appointed with a very comfortable bed, selection of books, bottled water and a welcoming dram o f Scottish whiskey. There was a lovely selection of teas and coffee with a small jug of real milk in the fridge and a welcome cookies to have with your tea. The building itself is refurbished from the old Scotsman newspaper office but still holds touches of days gone by with all the modern amenities. Although not inexpensive, it was worth every penny for those touches that added so much to the end and beginning of each day spent in this scenic city.Absolutely delightful!

Exceptional”
Loved everything about the Scotsman Hotel from the staff who assisted us when we got there until check out and the little surprises in the room (rum sample and the tea cakes) Our TV didnt work at one point and we had to call for it get fixed and the elevator was under maintenance for a day so we had to use another route but that didnt dampen our spirits. We fell in love with Scotsman Hotel and Edinburg. We cant stop talking about our experience and planning to come back. Simply BEAUTIFUL!

As good as ever!”
The Scotsman has always been my favourite hotel in Edinburgh and I wondered whether the change of owners might affect this. I needn't have worried, the hotel is absoutely as good as ever and I had another marvellous stay there.

“Superb Hotel” Very quirky, ideally placed”
We really enjoyed our stay at the Scotsman Hotel the experience was wonderful. Our only two niggles were the room was very warm and even though the hotel supplied a fan we still needed to sleep with all three windows open. They supplied a fridge in the room which contained fresh milk for milk and coffee however by the morning we had to throw I out as it had gone off. On leaving we reported this as the fridge needs to be checked. On the positive side there were many special touches. A couple of wee dams to sample, a plate of chocolates and some small tea cakes when we arrived. In the middle of our stay the chocolates were replace. Nice touch but we would recommend to friends and family.
