great stay”
We were very pleased with our room, clean and spacious with wonderful bath. We would recommend afternoon tea which was brilliant , so tasty and so much that we should have shared one. Great value for money. Good central location, we went to the Festival Theatre which was 8 minutes walk and used the train for our transport which was perfect. All of the staff were polite friendly and very helpful, obviously a well managed hotel. Will definitely stay again. Thank you for making a perfect visit to Edinburgh for us.

we wanted to offer the best for our US guests. it turned out be very disappointing experience; unloa”
Bikram has been helpful in sorting out table fans in the room and opening of windows to cool the room which gave us respite. He was also kind enough to take the ladies to show the Pent house which once upon a time was a masterpiece. In the b'fast we asked for ala carte menu - which has Cavier but when plate was served - there was no Cavier; I had to ask for it. When my wife asked the staff member to get some water while having b/fast the guy said - get the water from the table where it was centrally kept. We never had such experience any where.

Old building but modern well appointed rooms. ”
Room was very comfortable. Hotel is very convenient for Waverley Station, but helps to know that you can access it from Market Street under the viaduct (they will buzz you in, and it avoids walking up the hill). Would recommend to others

Tired old "holiday Inn"”
Perched in the Centre of town the Scotsman had always stood as a Grand and luxurious icon of yesteryear. I had dined here many years ago when I lived in Edinburgh and thought it would be a cathartic and unique experience staying here as a guest. After a coin toss between the Balmoral and Scotsman I booked for two nights. Upon arrival the room was set for a double (I was staying in a twin with my elderly mother), this was quickly rectified by concierge who simply pushed beds apart in a very haphazard way. We went for drinks and the magnificent bar was a small dingy affair looking out onto a wall. The full Scottish breakfast was mingy and didn't even come with toast. Final straw was at night when I arrived home from dinner and wanted a nightcap in the guest bar and was made to feel such an inconvenience. The cleaner vacuumed around our feet and the staff were oozing attitude. Apparently there has been issues with ownership of late and It shows in the standards in this icon. Avoid!

Good”
Upon checking in our booking was not with the hotel, matter was resolved once staff realised a new booking system their side was to blame, but before that staff were placing fault with ourselves and out booking with Agoda and were particularly polite about the whole incident. Rooms big and clean but could do with so decoration, bar good and breakfast ok, great location. Felt should be getting more for your money for the price, please note spa is now closed.
