Pros: Beautiful hotel owned by a Thai family that run a restaurant on the premises as well. Garden and hotel grounds lovely with orchids and little personal touches. My garden bungalow had a side view to the ocean. Nice terrace in front of the bungalow with chairs and a table and clothes rack for drying wet swimwear. Small but lovely pool area. During my stay, it was easy to get a sun chair. Con: You enter the bungalow from the terrace which faces other bungalows and the paths running throughout the hotel. The entire facade is glass so very limited privacy unless the curtains are closed. Did not bother me to much, but some guests may like more privacy.
Amazing pool! ”
We loved the pool and the banana daiquiris were delicious! We watched the sunset each not from the pool and got some AMAZING pictures. The breakfast was great, too! The only downside was that it was a little far to walk to restaurants (15-20 minute walk), but the location also made it much more quiet, private and relaxing!
Amazing! Quiete! Great vue! ”
Everything was perfect! We would of stay longuer! They opened the kitchen just for us and the food was so delicious! The owners were so nice! The pool is a dream! The view unbelievable! The room in front of the sea! Just the place to go!
Loved the location, very chilled atmosphere.”
We stayed at Shambhala for 4 nights over the new year period. On arrival we were greeted by extremely friendly staff who made every effort to make us as comfortable as possible. The property has a relaxed vibe, with nice bungalows and gardens all around. The pool is small, but sufficiently sized and the Andaman sea quite literally laps at the property edge. The food and shopping strip is a 400m walk away, with plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from.
3 Night stay April 2017”
I had a wonderful stay at The Shambala, I have nothing but good things to say about it. The location is fantastic, right at one end of a lovely long sandy beach, which appears to be cleaned daily. The rooms, set in a lush tropical garden, are spacious, well appointed and well maintained. The greatest asset of The Shambala however is it's very friendly and accommodating staff and owner/manager. I will definitely stay here next time I visit Khao Lak.
We enjoyed very much, the hospitality was the best I had”
The vacation was amazing! When we come we had upgraded for free to a bigger room, the staff was giving us very good treatment, the food was very good, and you have direct access to the beach, just perfect!
Great stay in a lovely family run hotel”
We loved staying here. The hotel is run by a local family, who were very friendly and so helpful with advice on where to go and how best to do it. They helped arrange trips for us, gave us airport transfers, recommended restaurants, packed up our breakfast for us - nothing was too much trouble. The location is lovely, down the far end of the beach so you don't get disturbed by other people, the pool was overlooking the beach with very comfortable sunbeds. There is a guy there every day who will do cheap massages. The food was tasty, all freshly prepared and even though it was quiet when we arrived they opened the restaurant for us one evening. Rooms are simple and comfortable, we asked for a topper for the bed as it was quite firm to start with - this was quickly provided! Would definitely recommend this place.
Casual and laid back with fabulous service”
khaolak was devastated by the 2004 tsunami so all the hotels along the stretch of yellow sand have been rebuilt/refurbished. shambala seems to be new. the rooms were large with a comfortable king bed, and tastefully decorated. i had a fridge, daybed, tea making facilities, a huge umbrella for those monsoon storms, balcony and an adequate bathroom with good water power in the shower. the pool is very small but clean and the hotel is right on the beach with high tide washing up against the retaining wall. breakfast was very good - you order from an endless menu and then ask for anything else that you might want. coffee was freshly made. the best thing was the attitude of the staff. my departure flight was late and they not only allowed me to keep my room until 4 p.m. without charge, but also provided with cold water for the journey. great people - and very helpful.
our favorite Thailand stay so far”
we already miss Shambhala and khao lak, this is a winner and we realize now that we continued our travel in Thailand. the resort is family run and the owner/manager is Ms Hong a super friendly, charming, capable woman that personalizes the experience as she explains the Sabai Sabai philosophy which gives name to the restaurant. the location is superb, right on one of the best, wildest and less transited beaches Ive seen in TH. the rooms are in cabins, very adequate and have a small veranda with chairs to chill when wanted. the resort has a nice pool overlooking the ocean and the busiest massage corner in khao lak, so you must book well ahead as people from other resorts book here. food is very tasty and while it may take sometime to produce specially when busy its worth the wait. 4 thumbs up!! we will be back!!
Best hotel in my life”
This hotel is wonderful. Comfortable room, location, breakfast, pool, and very kind staff. I love this hotel. hope come back again.
Very nice, quiet place, right on the Beach, run by a really nice family!
Beautiful location, friendly and helpful owners but recommend and stay there again.
Nice villa.... very quiet... good bed..... lovely infinity pool ocean view..steps to sea..good food”
Comfortable pool loungers....
A very pleasant, small hotel. Staff really helpful and organised taxis and trips for us - prices exactly as quoted with no hidden extras. A small, very pretty infinity pool- lovely to float in. In a quieter area of town but an easy walk to bars and restaurants. We took a day trip to coconut beach (adjoining white sands beach) beautiful. Payed 600 baht from hotel for return trip.
Good location run by a family. Nice breakfast, room was great. Due to availability we had to move to a bigger hotel nearby for the remaining days of our vacation, which was a shame. We would definitely return should we travel to Khao Lak again.
Heather and Denise”
Just returned from an excellent 2 weeks spent at the Shambahla. We stayed in a beachfront bungalow which faced out to sea, it was wonderful listening to the sea early on a morning. The resort is small therefore a very tranquil environment to relax and reenergise. Breakfast was lovely as were the meal options at lunch and dinner. Hong and her staff couldn't do enough for us, even got up at 4.20am to wave us off on our early morning flight alongwith a packed up breakfast. All in all I would highly recommend this authentic Thai resort.
Absolutely lovely family run resort / accommodation .We booked initially for 2 rooms for 2 nights but stayed longer .Nothing was a problem , including looking after our luggage while we all went on a dive trip for a couple of days to the Similan Islands .
This hotel made our trip to Thailand ”
Our stay at Shambala made our entire trip to Thailand!!! We came to Khao Lak and had booked a more expensive hotel, however we were incredibly disappointed when we arrived and immediately looked into changing hotels. Shambala had everything we wanted. An infinity pool looking out to sea, clean rooms, fantastic breakfast, and gorgeous surrounding beaches. The staff were beyond amazing! They got up extra early to make us a packed lunch breakfast as we had an early start to go snorkelling. But the most amazing part was how helpful they were in assisting us with transport down to Phuket pier, driving us 2 hours down, booking the boat ride across to Phi Phi island and also booking a taxi for our return to Phuket airport. We honestly could not ask for anything more. The place itself is as beautiful as the people who run it! I could not recommend it enough! It was the best part of the entire trip!
We stayed at the Shambhala for two weeks in February 2017 with our 18 week old. From the start, Hong was incredibly helpful, arranging an airport transfer with a baby seat and making sure that we had all we needed for the baby, including a baby bath. The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. The pool area is lovely and right next to the beach and the sea, making swimming in both very easy. Breakfast was generous and very tasty every morning, and the food in the restaurant was good quality for lunch and dinners, and also reasonably good value. All the staff at the resort were incredibly warm and friendly and made us feel very at home during our stay. We couldn't have asked for more from them. We'd definitely recommend The Shambhala to other people in future.
The pros: Staff (very caring and giving) Location on the beach Sunsets Breakfast with drinkable coffee Quietude Cons: Not the greatest part of Khaolak Lak (nothing to do with Shambhala however) Facility is a bit deficient for the price Walkways are too sandy leading to tracking sand back into the room In conclusion this is a small family run, beachfront hotel with an incredible staff in a quiet park of Khao Lak.
