Boasting a marina setting, the Ship and Trades is located in Chatham, 1.9 miles from Gillingham Train Station and offers free parking.
The contemporary bar, restaurant and hotel overlooks one of the yacht basins at the former Royal Naval Dockyard. It has waterfront seating with views of the boats and views across the River Medway onwards to Upnor Castle.
Visitors can also enjoy the view from inside the Ship and Trades’ wrap-around restaurant with floor-to-ceiling glazing overlooking the marina. The 15-bedroom hotel also has a comfortable lounge area and 2 snug rooms. Its décor is inspired by its nautical heritage, as the structure was originally home to dockyard offices and an engineering shop in the late 19th century.
A cinema and several shops are within a 10-minute walk away.

Lovely location need to up standards of cleaning”
Breakfast, location and decor of hotel and bar.
We were placed in a small room at the very end of the hotel directly above the Co-op and the chip shop below. The location of the room was quite noisy from outside but once the shops were closed below it went very quiet (we stayed mid week and not at the weekend). The thing that bothered me the most was the lack of cleanliness. When we entered the room there was such thick dust on the floor behind the door that we could write in it meaning the floor had not been cleaned thoroughly in goodness knows how long. The cups provided for tea and coffee were filthy (a bit of Milton will get rid of any tea coffee stains), the bathroom did not look excessively clean, there were stains and marks all over the walls, one of the lights did not switch on as the bulb had blown and the shower tray filled very quickly with water as it was desperately in need of unblocking. I think this hotel has a fantastic concept but more attention needs to be paid to the housekeeping or maybe they should hire some housekeepers that are thorough and do their job properly. At over £80 for the night I would expect way higher standards of cleanliness in the room. That said the breakfast the next morning was fantastic and the lady serving us was very polite and helpful. Has the potential to be alot better but I think some checks need to be made on the consistency of cleanliness as well as maintenance within the room/rooms.
