"The Small is a lovely boutique hotel with exceptional staff..."
December 17, 2018
Lying in the heart of the Night Bazaar, The Small Chiang Mai Hotel is a trendy boutique hotel in this northern Thai city. Walk to the market or hop onto a tuk-tuk to the old city to explore some of the temples. The much revered Doi Suthep, Bhuping Palace, and the Botanical Gardens should be visited, and for some shopping, there are the art galleries and handicraft centers. For relaxation after a long day, the hotel provides a pool. Dining options include a rooftop restaurant, but guests can just as easily walk out and explore the numerous eateries in the vicinity. The rooms are bright, each with a massive mural over the headboard, and bathrooms that include both a handheld and rain shower. The Small Chiang Mai Hotel is trendy and offers an excellent value-for-money option.

Had a fantastic stay”
Absolutely loved our stay, the staff was incredibly nice and helpful. They had free bikes to get around which made things very nice and easy to get around, and super close to the night market. I highly recommend this hotel.
Great value for money”
I have stayed at the Small, Chiang Mai a number of times and always find it good value for money. Definitely not a 5-star resort, but everything is quite clean and the staff friendly. Some of the rooms are a bit dated (air con a little loud, shower not enough pressure, etc) but this is pretty standard for this price range.
Hotel doesnt care about your request”
Very friendly and helpful staff ”
Pros: Very helpful staff Breakfast on the roof ok for 150baht Good tour desk Stocked mini bar, Cons: Internet was very slow. Had a very annoying intermittent humming noise in room. Staff took care of it as soon as I mentioned it and upgraded me to a suite for my second night. I will stay there again.
LOVE The Small Chiang Mai”
The Small is a lovely boutique hotel with exceptional staff and manager. They we're courteous, polite and very helpful. The cleaning staff are sweet and thorough. The hotel is beautifully presented in a great location. We stayed here twice and look forward to our next stay at The Small Chiang Mai. Thank you! James & Aemelia (Australia)
The location is within walking distance to the night bazzar, the daytime markets and also to the old city. We discovered the RCT bus and took a few sightseeing journeys for 20baht each trip. The staff are super helpful and friendly. We found the beds a little hard and the staff were more than happy to rectify this. The hotel is clean, bathrooms immaculate. Breakfast includes cook to order eggs and bacon, as well as other assorted goodies. We loved the location so much that we extended our stay.
Perfect accommodation in the heart of Chiang Mai”
We booked this place for one night and it was perfect! Walking distance from Night Bazaar markets, bars and restaurants. The room was clean, shower was great. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The beds were quite firm but apart from that, this was a great place for a 1-night stay in Chiang Mai!
I always enjoy staying here”
It's low season, so I really get to enjoy some of the hotels which are often just a little above the price range I prefer......hey, this is Chiang Mai and 97% of the time you're spoiled for choice! Anyway, great, comfortable rooms, the staff are good, breakfast, if included, is good, My favourite rooms are the ones at the front with a balcony overlooking Thapae Road, a great place to relax with a beer for an hour at twilight. You'd think there may be more noise here being on the busy road, but inside it's very quiet and well insulated. Recommended!
Having stayed here many times there are no surprises, the location is great, it's central to Thapae Gate and the Night Bazaar, both an easy walk away, and for anything else there's Songteaw, taxis and tuk tuks at the front door. The staff are pretty good here, although some seem a little green as I suspect there's been a change of management or ownership fairly recently, but they all try hard. The rooms are good sized and impeccably clean. The beds very comfortable and the bathrooms nice, although I'm not a fan of the pump bottle soaps etc. The breakfast is always good, in an open air style restaurant on the top floor. There's a small pool on the third floor and there is a lift, one only, but it's enough for this sized hotel. The lobby area is nice, too, always subtly lit, cool and inviting. On occasion I shy away from the Small, but in low season particularly there are often good specials on line which make it good value for what it offers. Recommended,
The staff were incredibly helpful and kind, the travel lady downstairs by the lift helped us so much with transport and even booked us an über, she said they are way cheaper than a taxi, shall I book one? So she booked us an uber on her phone as we couldn't download the app and saved us money. She also sorted several trips for us, a Thai cooking class and an amazing water park trip. The hotel was always clean and tidy and they would phone you from the desk downstairs if you didn't press the button on your door for cleaning just to check if you wanted your room cleaned. Not too far from lots of restaurants and places to drink, nice and quiet at night, easy to find. The only thing that let this hotel down was the wifi, it was terrible. But apart from that it was a pleasure and we'd definitely recommend The Small Hotel.
A solid choice”
I've stayed here a number of times over the years and it's a solid choice, not the cheapest but it's a great location, walk to many places, parking is limited for motorcycles in the front but generally you can squeeze in, the rooms are nice and clean. There seems to be new management and staff since my last stay, except in the breakfast room which has the same warm welcome as ever. The reception staff are maybe a little quiet compared to the previous crew, but I'm sure they'll loosen up in time. This is a good choice for your stay if you are lucky enough to find a super special on the web, otherwise you'll find better value in this competitive market. There's a small pool, more like a big plunge pool, and my favourite rooms here are the ones with a bit of a rough balcony overlooking Thapae Road.
Great location for budget travel”
Very decent lodging, not fancy. Pool is very tiny that we decided not to go. Staffs are friendly, although do not converse much in English. The biggest plus point is its location, 5 mins walk to Sunday Market, Night Bazaar, Warorot Market...
great location, friendly staff”
I chose an upgraded room, sorry I can't recall what they called it, but it was noticeably bigger then during my previous stays some years ago plus I had a small balcony overlooking Thapae Road, which from the fourth floor was a nice perspective. The room was clean, the bathroom generous in size, the bed comfortable and there was nothing I may have needed which wasn't there for me. The hotel has a small pool on a balcony setting, and breakfast was included. The food selection was adequate and tasty and again the setting is balcony, fifth floor with some nice views across the city. One of the strong points for the hotel is the staff, reception, tour desk and breakfast area, they were all very friendly, helpful and welcoming. There is parking in front for motorbikes but on a couple of occasions this was pretty squeezy for my larger than average ride. But being out the front it's within sight of the front reception area so should be relatively secure. There are cheaper places around but not too many which do it this well.
It s a GOOD HOTLE,,”
,,lobby big an cool plece to hang out,,,check in/out fast,,,we had deluxe room good size for 2,,,balcony ok,,,wifi worked 100%. Bathroom good size,,TV cable ,,,soundproofing great very quite ,,,,housekeeping did a good job,,breakfast great an on the roof really nice pleace in the morning ,,pool IS a joke its only big enough for 2 maybe 3 people at most ,, ,we stayed 7 nights ,,,will stay again if back in Chiangmai ,,
The rooms are a very good size, plenty of space. Breakfast is on the top floor - we were told from 7am, but it was well under way when we went up at 06:50. The food is not a great range, but you are not paying a lot. The elevator skips the first floor, so if you have many/heavy bags ask for floors 2 and up. The staff are very nice (the ones we saw were) and helpful. WiFi worked easily in the room. The bathroom could use some hooks on the door, to keep the towel off the floor when showering. If you are of 'large size', you may want to look elsewhere as the toilet is so close to the sink that the edge of the benchtop will jam against you. I'm not too big, but it is a bit uncomfortable sitting there. Cockroaches were a problem - so many of them of varying sizes. If we were there longer, I would have bought spray. 200b security deposit. We would stay there again.
Pleasant resort and friendly staff”
This hotel has a good location just around the corner from the night bazaar and walking distance to ta pae market. Considering the location it is also very quiet as there is no nightlife where it is situated. It is clean, reasonably priced and comfortable and the staff are warm anf friendly. Would recommend this hotel for couples and families alike, and travelers who want a good nights sleep.
Nice little place for cost/performance”
It was a pleasent stay for 2 nights with my mother and 2 kids. We arrived quite late and the hotel staff was waiting us in front door, after quite chick in he escorted us to our room and sincerely inform us every tiny thing about the accomadation. It's a small boutique hotel with clean, neat, and comfortable rooms. But I got to say their services is absolutely 5 stars.
