Friendly & helpful staff, good location and overall good value ”
I was a little concerned about some of the recent reviews that were posted after I had booked but I can state that I thoroughly enjoyed my 3 night stay at the hotel. I was allocated a Deluxe room and found it to be really 'spacious' by Hong Kong standards. Well cleaned and serviced daily with toiletries and bottled water replenished every day. The en-suite bathroom was also spacious with an excellent shower area and plenty of hot water with good pressure. All the staff were extremely polite, helpful and friendly. The reception staff spoke English and were always ready to give helpful and accurate advise. The location is one block away from the North Point MTR station with plenty of local restaurants in the surrounding area. While a kettle and mugs are provided in the room don't forget to bring your own teabags and coffee powder! I am happy to recommend this hotel and would use it again, price dependent, of course.
A well located, comfortable & well maintained hotel in North Point.”
I was pleased I selected this hotel for my 3 night stay in Hong Kong. I was upgraded to a Deluxe Twin Bed room on the 16th floor. The room was very comfortable, well appointed and spacious especially compared to many hotel rooms in Hong Kong and the en-suite bathroom was most acceptable. There was always plenty of hot water in the shower which was also nice and spacious. A kettle and mugs are provided in the room but you need to provide your own coffee/tea and milk powder. The room was serviced daily and toiletries and bottled water replenished daily. All the staff were very helpful, pleasant and friendly. Checking in and out was seamless. All three elevators worked well and the only disappointing aspect was the central heating in the room, in fact, there was none! I would suggest book a Deluxe room rather then the Standard room. I am happy to recommend this hotel and would consider using the hotel in future, depending of course, on the nightly charge out rate.
Great Value for Money and Location”
This location is great, especially if it's your first time in HK . We just took the bus from the Airport, A11 bus (North Point) and we went down to the South China Hotel station (Java Road) and just a few steps around the corner, you'll see the hotel. The area is also near the MTR station (Fortress Hill or North Point Station) so it is very accessible. The check in and check out is a breeze. The room is also spacious compared to the other hotels in HK. Within the vicinity: -There's also a wet market on the next street where you can buy magnet souvenirs for a good price (well compared to other souvenir places). -Lots of restaurants, shopping mall, some outlet stores around the area too. Enjoy!
A hotel with excellent location, good customer services and budget prices ”
You can barely find a hotel with good location, budget prices and excellent services in Hong Kong these days. South China prizes itself in all of these. Though the hotel is a bit run down, it is doing renovation at the moment to cope with the ever changing tourist environment in Hong Kong. Considering all good qualities above, I wish to recommend it to visitors who like to explore the deep quality of life of locals while enjoying good foods of all kind in the nearby district. One always hopes that breakfast will soon be returned.
Value for money”
Pros - big room for HK standard, they give good deals and breakfast is free, lots of food options around, near train station and airport bus stop is nearby Cons - hotel has basic facilities so dont expect much, a bit far from the tourist area of HK Tip - get the newly renovated rooms
Choose Newly renovate room”
Good location at a cheap price just make sure to choose their renovated room or when you place on their old room it is awful and smells cigar smoke even we requested for non smoking room. Toiletries are cheap quality just fair enough. Regular cleaning of room service. Housekeeping staff wants to do it in the morning only if you not let her in she will just leave u refill bottled water, towel and toiletries then leave. Not stable wi-fi but acceptable. Stayed in 14th floor with a good view of Victoria Harbour upon coming out of the room. Chinese restaurant on their 1st floor taste is just average.
The hotel is over 20's years old but has never done any renovation. The carpets in the rooms are old and dirty, the vanity in the bathroom are old and molded and cracked, the shower heads doesn't work/hook up on wall properly. We stayed there for 2 weeks but our bed linens were never changed and the room was never vacuumed. With the prices they charged (A$100 per nite), we didn't think it's worth for the value. The only good thing about this hotel is the location.
Old but good value”
I booked the standard room that are not renovated, it is quite run down but is cheaper than the renovated rooms, so it is quite good value for this size and location. A suggestion is they should consider replacing their pillows with the more durable and comfortable memory foam.
They have given up.”
The South China is an old hotel which can provide an adequate experience given its location. However, key aspects fall well short - best way to turn lights off was to take light bulbs out, water flow was below normal, housekeeping was perfunctory.
Would not book again”
Rooms were so small. Airconditioning/heater does not work. Windows are not properly maintained so there are gaps between them making the room so chilly during the winter. Beds are hard as rocks. Only positive about the hotel is it is very near the MTR station.
The South China Hotel Experience”
This is what I expected for the price I paid, under $80USD per night. The hotel decor and rooms are dated, but they are slowly updating the front of the building first, then the rooms. It's in a good location, near North Point MTR Station, the wet markets, and many eateries. The majority of the clientele are from Mainland China, so if you don't like the smell of cigarette smoke and occasional, loud talking, and karaoke in rooms, this hotel will not be to your liking.
okay hotel for me”
We have stayed in this hotel several times already since it is near our relatives' house in North Point. With breakfast and wifi service. Near MTR station and outlets in North Point. Easy to observe the locals also when they go to market. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
Great hotel for its price”
I was so worried that it is a bad hotel because of the price. It is one of the cheapest in the area and the other are lilke 20% more However I got upgraded and the room is actually quite nice. Good size. The bed is a little too hard but I can live with that for one night sleep Older hotel but everything clean and functional.
Good Hotel, Good Location”
Hotel is near restaurants & public transport stops. Room is spacious & clean. TV channels limited but with 2 English news channels. Room is cleaned everyday. Wifi is fast.
Enjoyable Stay in Hong Kong”
Hotel is clean and staffs are friendly. Airport bus stops a short distance from the hotel, you can catch a bus to the airport near the North Point pier. Food stalls, convenience shops, supermarkets are available at every corner of the streets, there is also a wet market in front of the hotel. If you want a taste of authentic HK food and to get a view of how people live in HK, this is the place to stay.
Dear Guest, Thank you for staying at The South China Hotel. We look forward to welcoming you soon.
a good average hotel staff very helpful rooms clean and tidy location out a bit but on A11 bus route MTR close by easy to get to price varies with seasons but usually ok has jug and glasses but no cups or tea/coffee otherwise satisfactory

A de facto 4 star hotel to be recommended in terms of its value, location and hospitality service”
We were very impressed with this hotel two years ago when we went to Hong Kong on holiday. We booked this hotel again when we had another holiday in Hong Kong this October. However, we were not disappointed. The location of the hotel is absolutely beyond criticism, being close to all amenities of traffic (trams, buses, taxi) accessible from the airport (the A11 route bus direct from the airport to the doors), eating stores of various kinds, supermarkets, department stores, and even local markets which are abound with fruits and food, bakery, and many many more stores for clothing and shoes. Staff at the hotel are very friendly, courteous and helpful. They all wear a smiling face with attentive manner. The hotel has been doing renovating work for some times and some of the rooms are 'well equipped' with modern facilities such as safety deposit box, fast wi fi internet and modern TV. Breakfast was good as the chef had tried to ring the changes well and other servicing staff were doing their best to help. While we were checking out but had to leave our luggage temporarily at the hotel store room because wheels of one of our suitcases were dislocated and broken. One of the female staff had graciously come forward to give us a helping hand and when we were back with a new suitcase, she has unconditionally accepted to dispose our old broken suitcase and helped us in the process of re-packing. We would like to thank her for this excellent service and manner. In summing up, we think this hotel ought to be ranked 4 stars in terms of those excellent things we just mentioned.
Dear Guest, Thank you for staying at The South China Hotel and your valuable comments. As we always emphasize on the attitude of our staff, we delighted that our staff had provided kindliness and professional services to you. We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.
The hotel is a basis 3 star hotel and if that suits your needs then it is fine.the room had enough space to open up two suitcases but not much more.the breakfast is basic but fine and the room clean.i was sick and needed to find medical help and the staff were excellent and I rate them 10/10 for their help
Dear Guest, Thank you for staying at The South China and your valuable comments. We are sincerely wish you a speedy recovery. We look forward to welcoming you soon.
First experience staying in Hong Kong”
This was my first time staying in Hong Kong. The hotel is fine not too big and not too small. I would say it is average and it is a common room space for a standard room in Hong Kong. The wifi was strong and stable. It is near to tram and MTR and I practically could get anywhere easily especially to Masjid Ammar and Warung Malang for halal food. Learnt a lot about Hong Kong people.
The hotel is well-located near subway, however, its neighbourhood is quite dirty but still acceptable. I accidentally locked the room while leaving the key card inside, the staff were helpful to assist me.
