Well-priced above average hotel in a pricey city”
We stayed in one of the Sultan Suites, a very large room with high ceilings, big windows covered with blackout curtains and its own wireless router which provided a very strong signal. The bed was a super-king size and very comfortable. The aircon unit was very effective, cooling the large room down to 20 celcius within 10 minutes and whisper-quiet overnight. The bathroom, whilst a little small compared to the room size, was well-appointed and supplied with shampoo, shower gel, soap and skin lotion on a daily basis. Unfortunately only budget soap was supplied so we opted to buy our own. One other disappointment was the lack of a room mirror, which the receptionist corrected by supplying us with a body-length portable one. Breakfast consisted of eggs prepared in various ways including fried, omelette, over-easy and eggs benedict. Coffee, cereal, water, juice, croissants and pain au chocolat were also available from the buffet table. Upstairs in the evenings there is a bar/disco area which extends outside onto the terracing and features softfurnished seating. There is a bus stop directly outside and there are 3 MRT stations within 20 minutes' walking distance, the most useful of which is the Lavender station. This provides easy and very cheap transport to Sentosa island where most of SG's entertainment is located. Tip: buy an "ez-link" card from the MRT station, not a tourist card -and can be used on the MRT, the buses and the Sentosa Express. When you leave, you can get a refund of all the credit on the card, but the SG$5 card fee has to be forfeited. Much cheaper than the equivalent in London. Summary: The Sultan hotel is well-located and friendly and much better value for money than the cheaper hotels in Singapore (unless you like living in a cage). SG is an expensive destination, so be prepared to spend more than in most cities - it's worth the extra!
Comfortable, value for money hotel ”
The hotel is located within walking distance of Lavender or Bugis MRTs. Lavender is on the direct route from Changi airport and it's a 5 to 10 minute walk to the hotel if you choose to travel to the hotel by train. Bugis is about a 15 minute walk. I had a single room which was small but clean and well appointed and certainly fine for a 3 night stay. The bed was comfortable and the room was well insulated from outside noise. The only issue I had was that the Wifi did not work in my room although the hotel staff tried their best to resolve the problem. I used the lobby Wifi instead. I recommend this hotel for short stays for those who want some security and comfort but do not want to pay the very high prices of Singapore hotels.
The most welcoming hotel and it's staff family ”
I felt like a sultan when I arrived in the hotel. Everybody (including cleaning people) really knows how to make you feel home. In the welcoming letter they are talking about family and this is the feeling they create, being home. I was two days in the hotel with a flu and fever and the staff was taking care of me without asking them. They did bring me soup, fruits and drinks. The hotel and the rooms are build and decorated with much love for details. Even the room I stayed was a small one it felt very spacious and cozy. There are practical nicely designed details everywhere and the longer you stay you will discover the spaces. The minibar is filled with a few drinks, nuts and sweets to use for free, explained the jung women who was accompanying me to the room. Then she showed me how to use "the handy" a smartphone with an installed sim card and data plan to use for free in the city. Everything from the design and the little extras in the hotel is done with love and creativity, and the staff is loving and welcoming. Many thousand thanks to the whole sultan family for taking care of me so well. Doris
Great location, awesome service, but small rooms”
i am an avid fan of nearby arab street. so when i was thinking of an ideal place to stay for the new year, i immediately thought of the sultan. located about a 10 min walk to bugis mrt, it is suitable for travelers, especially for couples. there are many amenities around, such as 24 hrs convenience stores & restaurants. over at arab street, there are pubs & shisha parlors that open till late. in short, you will never get bored of the area especially if you are looking for a night out. the area is rather centralized, so tourists to singapore will find it pleasantly convenient to do their sightseeing. as such, the sultan is highly recommended based on its location & price. it does not hurt that their service is top-notch either. with the recent trend of boutique hotels sprouting like mushrooms after rain, the sultan provides quality service that is expected from such establishments. that said, the sultan is a new hotel. they still need some ironing out to do. the hanging shower-head was not working properly, the coffee capsules were not topped up & the room was awfully small. but with a price to match, it was easily forgivable. being a highly absent-minded person, i brought out the remote control (had the same width as my iphone) along with me when i was checking out. the lady at reception (kaur, if i remember correctly) asked cautiously why i was holding the remote control which of course amounted to bouts of laughter when i realized it was not a form of mobile communication. it was the perfect way to say goodbye to the sultan.
Nice Heritage Hotel located in the coolest part of”
Sultan is the perfect hotel for a classy but still value deal in Singapore. On top of the clean, tidy and well functional rooms, Sultan also can offer a very attentive staff. The best part, however, is its location in the middle of the Arab quarter with its cultural mix of religion, art, fashion and all kind of great cusine!
We actually headed here straight from our honeymoon at Hanoi. It was what we wanted. Laidback, quiet, clean, comfortable and spacious. Being Singaporeans, we needed the feel of an "extension" of our honeymoon, and the staycation at Sultan Hotel definitely was worth it. Close proximity to Bugis. We managed to get lunch and dinner without problems and even went for a spot of midnight movie and walked back to the hotel from Bugis. Will definitely come back here again :)
Lovely boutique hotel in historical building”
Pro: - Lovely boutique hotel in historical building with charm. Especially the larger rooms have a nice historical touch and are cozy. The smallest room is still nice but pretty small (SG standard though). - Great location for us in the old town. Walking distance to Haji Lane and Arab street. - Quiet surrounding on most days. Cons: - Saturday night parties in the inhouse club can get noisy. Party guests going to the outside bathroom as well as the cleaning staff in the middle of the night are talking loudly and kept us awake most of the night. :-( The music was audible too (but not particularly disturbing). I think it's not a good idea to have a club in a boutique hotel. This destroys the serene ambiance there at night. - The cleaner kept the aircon on in the afternoon, even on a very low temperature. We found this unnecessary and especially wasteful! We sleep with open window (as it's a very quiet area) and no a/c, and don't like a freezing cold room when coming back.
Staycation over the long weekend”
The location of this hotel is perfect for travelers abroad or locals looking for a staycation. It is near to one of the more popular sites in Singapore - Malay Heritage Center, The Sultan Mosque, Arab Street. There are so many food locations nearby as well and most of them are open till late, for hungry groups who would love to go for a munch in the wee hours. Staff are super friendly and the hotel interior is very cosy. I especially love the garden lounge area where it is very picturesque and allows you to look over the back alleyway of Aliwal St. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for an enjoyable stay!
Great service and location”
The Sultan exceeded our expectations in terms of decor and service. We had problems with guests in the adjoining room who flouted the law and smoked in their room. The smell of cigarette permeated our room so we informed the staff who took action prompted. It happened again the following day and we were then given a change of rooms. Not only was it a change, it was an upgrade! Such a lovely touch. The decor throughout this heritage building was lovely. It was a mixture of European and Arabic. We had a good time here. With such a prime location, I had fun discovering parts of Singapore I had forgotten about.
A heritage Hotel close to Sultan Mosque”
I admire this heritage hotel, simple but classic, the room i booked for 3 nights was spacious and have a big window. The room is clean (the staff cleaned everyday), also provide coffee maker, mobile wifi. We can hear adzan every shalat time, very suitable for moslem traveller, just walking distance to The Sultan Mosque. The hotel provide moslem friendly breakfast. But you have many option for halal food sorrounding this area, by walking distances such as: Ramen Stall (halal), Minang Resto, Indonesian Resto, Zam Zam Resto (martabak n nasi briyani is the best in town !), etc..
Awesome Sultan Loft!!!!”
Will return again for the Sultan Loft stay!!! Superb cosy!!! Biggest Loft hotel in Singapore i would say!!! But only thing is the TV is on the lower deck...shd be in upper deck...but overall i would rate this Sultan Hotel 10/10..Staff 👍 Room 👍... Hotel Standard should be 4.5☆
Never thought it was to be that nice”
I felt so relaxed and at ease staying at the Sultan. The hotel was great, the room was great, the staff was excellent almost outstanding if it wasn't for the front desk operator who couldn't help me retrieve my phone messages. A little thing really. I'm definitely going back when I can. It's a little bit of a walk to the nearest MRT station, but there is great food shops everywhere near the hotel. Taxis are pretty cheap as well. Thanks again Sultan for that complimentary welcome drink, it hit the spot.
Unique hotel with old world charm”
We chose this hotel because it was not the stereo type hotel and we were very happy with it. The staff were very friendly and helpful. A porter service to take bags to the room would have been helpful. The Sultan room was new so very clean. My suggestion is to have a mirror behind the bed instead of the curtain to give the room a larger feel. The strains of jazz music was very pleasant in the evening. The staff graciously allowed us to stay 2 hours after check out time.
Very nice decoration with a different Nanyang feel”
Very nice hotel with a pure white British Colonial style building. Decorations are posh with a touch of Nanyang style. The staff are friendly. Rooms are located at first and second level. Room is small but cozy. Toilet is well kept with clean and sleek design. Located conveniently at Jalan Sultan road which is accessible to CBD area as well as shopping heaven Orchard Road. Taxi stand is just opposite the road. There are many eateries along the roadside as well. Highly recommended for business travelers.
This was our second and third stay at the Sultan Hotel. It is still a wonderful place to stay. Good shopping, good food, good night life, all close to the Sultan. The staff was helpful and friendly at all times. On each of our 3 stays we were given a different room design, each room better and better. The bed is to die for!
One of the best hotel in Singapore”
Switch from single room to Sultan room. Room is very nice design and clean. Better size than single room. Nice AC and view from window. Very quiet room. Even at night, no noise from hotel bar. Room is a bit pricy but no other hotel has same price and quality. I will come back to this hotel next time.
Perfect for High Maintenance Solo Travelers”
When traveling with my husband, we like to invest a little bit more on hotels because we love the design details, plushness and facilities of a quality hotel. This time, I had decided to try out The Sultan, Singapore as a solo traveler because I feel that I would still enjoy the comforts of a good hotel. My single room is compact, and I love that they have optimized the space by building a platform below and around the mattress for storage. Although the sleeping area is compact, it has still afforded me the luxury of a Queen Size Bed. I do think that the layout is well thought out because although the sleeping area is compact, the bathroom in contrast is roomy. And although there are travellers who had complained about the outside noise, it's really more of white noise and makes for easier sleeping for me!
always feel like home in singapore”
this hotel has always nice service and smile. room is very clean, nice design, minimum but enough amenity. very good for business trip and pleasure trip. many small chinese and arabic restaurant around. massage pearler is also around. only not want see things is karaoke bars around. many of funny girls walking around. but if you looking for these girls after work, it is perfect to stay this hotel. bar in 2nd floor has nice jazz session with nice drinks. it is easy listening music and relaxed moment. many of this kind hotels are a bit too small or bit not great design, but this the sultan hotel is always best.
A very nice and comfortable hotel, it lies just beside Alsoqaf school, between two major MRT station, Lavander and Buggy stations, the room spaces are ok and the cleanness and service are very nice, it provides a handy mobile phone with local SIM card with 3G for your convenient, near by the Sultan Mosque and Arab street with a very delicious and nice Arabic and Turkish restaurants.
Great Location and Space for Price”
My Fiancé and I were in Singapore for the night and the Sultan was a great find! Staff was very accommodating. Although the room we stayed in was small--the storage was wonderful so it wasn't bad! We're definitely going back.
