Great location but may be time to do some work on the rooms”
Love the charm and location Did not love stepping up into the bathroom or seeing a huge crack in the middle of the bathroom sink
An old , classic hotel. Great location when the weather is nice, but not so much in the winter.”
Cons: The hotel is 107 years old, so it doesn’t have the amenities of newer hotels. Plumbing renovations were ongoing while we were there. Parking was expensive and the website didn’t indicate it would be an extra charge. The front desk staff were not as friendly as I would expect and hope for. Pros: The location is across the street from English Bay, and the entrance to Stanley Park, so that’s quite nice. There are also restaurants and some small shops nearby. The bed was very comfortable as well.
location location location”
If antique ambience is your thing, this building has it, including lots of historical information about the hotel. If seawall access is your interest, you can't do better. The only concern for me is a pervasive musty odor, perhaps characteristic of a >100y old bldg, so if you have respiratory allergies, it might exacerbate them. The attached restaurant has an amazing view even though access to great room views is limited in number. It's worth being on the bucket list for anyone.
Good location, fine facilities.”
Just in front of the English beach, but i can not see ocean view. Because my room is in second floor. Easy to go everywhere. I can hear the sound from the hall. Clean. FINE.
Very good location
A hotel with old world charm”
Amazing building with a lot of history ina beautiful setting. Staff were very helpful and room was comfortable. A very unforgettably lovely stay.
Heritage building was great, disappointed with bathroom”
My husband and I wanted to stay at this hotel because of the historical aspect. We knew it was an older building and wouldn't be anything fancy. The hotel room was decent until we found a pubic hair in the bathtub. Other than that, the room was ok and staff was friendly.
good hotel to experience in Vancouver”
I was recommended by a Canadian on the same flight to SF. and it turns out to be a very good choice of hotel. Thanks to the lady on the same SQ flight to SF on Nov 12 2015.
Room was less elegant than I would've expected.
A classic retro hotel, in a magnificent location”
The hotel is accessible by public transport from the airport (train/bus); no car or taxi necessary. It is right on the ocean, close to Stanley Park and within easy walking distance of restaurants and any other service a traveler could require. Bicycle rental establishments are sprinkled all over, and the cycle trails are well marked and often separated physically from traffic. For us, the stay was perfect.
Poor customer service, bad attitudes”
The showers are poor quality- taking a long time to heat up and thereby wasting water. There was a mouse in my room. The hotel staff moved me to a new room but did nothing else to convince me they were concerned with my experience at their hotel. In general they handled the situation poorly: making promises they never kept. In general the from desk was rude and did not seem as if they wanted to help.
The good location hotel”
I can see the young man surfing in the sea,and can see the sun rise and sun set,it's so wonderful,
1950's Hotel centrally located, value for money”
Very nice hotel”
great place to stay, warm and clean!”
Everything is awesome in here, nice place, lovely outdoor landscape！
The staff were great very helpful”
Friendly and clean hotel”
IT was a wonderful short stay in Sylvia. I can easily walk to the beach get lost and found myself back again where I start. I like taking pictures, so I sometimes I stared very early at 6AM - or even late at 8 in the evening. I just walked along the beach shore, enjoy it, take some pictures, grab my breakfast and ate it on a beach bench or just easily enjoying my coffee. I can of careless that sometimes I left my luggage open, I found none of my things missing. And they have nice smell on their bed sheet. The staffs are very friendly, helpful and funny. If I ever go back to Vancouver again, I would definitely come back to Sylvia hotel.
feel like home”
THis is for the 2nd time for us to stay in this hotel, and definitely would come back again!
Dependable plain accomodations Great neighborhood.”
Hotel is plain but has great location, friendly staff, clean rooms and good service. Hotel is a bit worn around the edges but makes up with comfort.
