Satisfactory
Location is not the most convenient, and it is better if you drive. Wifi was decent and room was comfortable.

Comfortable in the city
We were in town for the lead up to our son's wedding and the location of Thornton Hotel was very good. Close to town, supermarket, waterfront, restaurants and able to walk anywhere we wanted to go. The room was pretty small but OK for our needs and bathroom fine. Small issue with service though - the system for getting a newspaper didn't work and unless I left a note for the room staff they did not top up supplies of tea, coffee etc. On the Saturday, day of wedding, the room was not cleaned until at least mid-afternoon which was not ideal. Otherwise the staff were helpful and friendly and the facilities are very nice.

Not happy
Hotel showing some sign of ages, heater of the room making lot of noise at night. We requested a early check in, and two single beds for the room, but we got tell to wait to 2:00pm when we got there. Car park not enough for guests.

Cheap room in the CBD
Pack you own cutlery and plates if you plan on anything but the hotel's own meals!

Good value for money
Staff should lift their game, location was ok, but it is bit of a walk into town. cleanliness was ok, breakfast was again ok. The biggest problem is carparking, the staff seem to have no idea on the capacity of the carparking voucher system and just cram you in any way they can. So this was not good.

work and pleasure
Was booked in for work on the Monday night so decided to come down early and spend the weekend which we paid for ourselves. Checked in easy as...was assured we wouldn't need to change rooms but the hotel didn't note this down and we had a confused phone call from them. They did fi the problem and was very friendly about it and apologetic. Handy to town, handy to the shops, within easy walking distance. Renovations were going on so a bit of a mixup wasn't really a problem.

Tiny room, en suite smelt of wee
Really the only great thing about this hotel was the WiFi, which was awesome.
