I stayed here for four nights in Kyoto, and overall it was an absolutely perfect experience! The hotel is beautifully located (great for exploring the city), the room was spacious, clean, and comfortable, with all the amenities I needed. Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful throughout my stay – from check-in to recommendations for local spots. Everything ran smoothly, and I felt relaxed and well taken care of the whole time. I’d happily return and recommend it to friends or other travelers looking for a great base in Kyoto. The only issue I encountered was with the mini-bar cabinet: the interior light stays on even after closing the door. It doesn’t turn off automatically (or at all when closed), so there’s a constant glow in the room at night. For someone who prefers complete darkness to sleep well, this made the room not 100% dark, which was a minor but noticeable disruption over four nights. It’s really the only thing that kept it from being flawless – otherwise, everything else was spot-on. A simple adjustment to make the light switch off with the door would make it perfect! Thanks again to the team for a wonderful stay – looking forward to coming back.
It’s my first time to stay in THE THOUSAND KYOTO. I chose this hotel because the design looks nice and the room looks clean in the photos, plus it’s close to the Kyoto station (just within 5 minutes walk to the JR station or the bus terminal). It did not disappoint me and my mother. They offer western and Japanese style breakfast, we love the Japanese one! Everything in the hotel is top notch, the bed is super comfy, the water pressure of the rain shower and shower head are both amazing. Staff are super helpful and friendly. A must stay if you are visiting Kyoto.
Dear, Mr./Ms. Ting Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We are thrilled to hear that you and your mother enjoyed your first stay with us. It's great to know that our design and cleanliness met your expectations, and that our location made your travels around Kyoto convenient. We're delighted that you loved the Japanese breakfast and found our beds and shower facilities to your liking. Our team takes pride in providing friendly and helpful service, and your kind words will surely motivate them. Thank you for recommending us as a must-stay hotel in Kyoto. We hope to welcome you back for another memorable experience in the future! Best regards, Front office manager THE THOUSAND KYOTO
This was by far our favorite hotel in Japan and one of our favorites around the world. It is elegant and modern but also traditional Japanese. We are a family of 5, with kids aged 15, 13, 8. We had to book 2 rooms. One room had 2 beds and a lovely sofa. The other had 3 beds. The beds are as long as a Western queen size but between a twin and a full size in width. They were exceptionally comfortable, and this is not something I say often, since sleeping in hotels is hard for me! The bathrooms were delightful with a separate toilet fully enclosed. The products were deliciously scented. Staff were attentive. Our rate included breakfast and I strongly recommend it—there are 2 restaurant options, Western and Japanese. Our first morning we tried the Japanese and what an experience!! The service was exceptional, the food mostly delicious and beautifully presented. There is no choice menu — the breakfast is set and very traditional (multiple fish, steamed rice, vegetables). We were extremely happy with the experience but opted for the Western buffet restaurant the other 2 mornings for the comfort and familiarity. Both were great and proactive with allergies.
Dear Mr./Ms.Susana, Thank you for choosing THE THOUSAND KYOTO and for taking the time to share your positive experience with us. We are pleased to hear that you have enjoyed the breakfast, service and rooms at our hotel. Thank you again for your kind words which I will certainly be sharing with the team. We look forward to welcoming all of you back with us again. Warmest regards, THE THOUSAND KYOTO.
Gorgeous hotel. Spotlessly clean. Exceptional service and attention to detail. More than happy to help with any desire you may have. Pajamas provided are divine to sleep in and the beads are a dream with big, fluffy duvets. The only area I feel could use a little attention is the breakfast buffet. It’s kind of boring and compared to the solid top tier of every other aspect of this hotel, I’d quite looked forward to what their breakfast room would have set up. It was fine but not at all exciting or modern. There was a little smoked salmon but no bagels. As an American that’s like giving a piece of fish and a piece of seaweed to wrap but no rice. Did not change how much we loved our stay at all. It’s a lovely property. Highly recommend.
Dear Mr./Ms kristen, First of all, we would like to express my sincere gratitude to our hotel for their kind words. We are delighted that you had a great experience here and enjoyed our good customer service and great facilities. About the breakfast, please be assured that we take your feedback seriously, and we clearly need to do better. Again, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your kind words of encouragement, and we will continue to do our best to provide you with an even more comfortable stay. Warmest regards, THE THOUSAND KYOTO

“Very modern and artistic ”
First impressions of this hotel are excellent. They clearly adore art and all the ascetics are modern and clean. Our room was also a good size and whilst the view was not ‘impressive’ I personally loved that we overlooked a small beautifully kept, private garden. We had a sofa in the room also, which was a nice place to have as an option to sit, but it was very hard and sadly liley purchased for the design rather than comfort. However the bed was comfortable - which is SO important! The towels large and soft, and the bathroom was ***outstanding***, having a separate toilet (top of the range Japanese style) and wet room with fabulous shower and bath. Now for the ‘buts’. .. The water temperature - sorry and I know it sounds ridiculous - but it irritated me, as whilst hot enough for showering, was not hot enough for a decent bath (a real shame when the tub was so excellent!). The hotel is clearly working hard at being ‘modern’ but that too was rather irritating as the lights were controlled by an ipad next to my side of the bed. You could unplug the ipad to move it around, but the battery rapidly diminished, this meant that the husband couldn’t turn off the lights when he went to bed, and so lights went off when I went to sleep regardless of what he wanted. It felt like they were working too hard to create something unnecessary in the 1st place. You also control the ‘do not disturb’ notification from the ipad - which due to an accident on the staircase (explained below) we made use of. And in my naïvety I though would expire at the end of the day - it doesn’t- it stays until you get back at the end of the next day and wonder why the bin is still full, and you then have to manually remove it. The hotel provided very nice PJs to use, in the samue style which were excellent quality, and which we also chose to purchase. The staff were all very helpful and polite, especially one young man at the main entrance who would enquire where we were considering visiting and would then suggest travel options for us. The gym (used by my husband) was good by his standards. One thing I am going to mention is that the hotel advises (in all literature too) that they don’t provide such extras like toothbrushes and toothpaste etc that you may usually expect, as they are doing their best against waste, which is admirable! You are reminded of this when you arrive but are advised that should you need these items they are available upon request - super! (As someone may stay last minute and need them) At an additional cost. Seriously? This is not a budget hotel and I would rather have had the cost applied within the booking and not been given the items when not needed, than be offered them upon check at ‘additional cost’! The hotel is stunning, and this check-in exchange felt cheap. I will also mention the stunning staircase they have in the main foyer - do not attempt to walk down them when the evening light display show is happening! The husband did, and the lights flickering can be disorienting and he twisted his ankle - we lost a day and a half of our holiday as he couldn’t stand on it. There are a lot of ‘ticks’ to staying here, location also being superb, but actually trying less hard (ie, there’s nothing wrong with having light switches) could work in their favour. Overall I would be likely to recommend this hotel to younger persons as certainly a nice place, well located, that provides quality accommodation, but I might hesitate to suggest it to colleagues in my generation.
Dear Mrs. debi, Thank you for sharing such a detailed review of your recent stay with us. We’re delighted to hear that you appreciated our modern design and artistic touches, as well as the comfort of the bed, the high-quality amenities, and the standout features of the bathroom. However, we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused. We will review these aspects to ensure a more intuitive and comfortable experience for future guests. Thank you once again for sharing your feedback and allowing us the opportunity to improve. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back for a renewed experience the next time your travels take you to Kyoto again. Warmest regards, THE THOUSAND KYOTO
