An elegant Tudor-style mansion built in 1928, this downtown hotel offers a unique Chicago experience in a spectacular location. The hotel is within walking distance of John Hancock Tower, the upscale shopping and restaurants of the Magnificent Mile, and glorious Lake Michigan and its beaches. The O'Hare International Airport is 20 miles away. There are many international dining options in the area, but guests that prefer to stay in can enjoy a hearty American meal at Mike Ditka's and follow it up with a few cocktails in the sophisticated bar. After a long day of shopping indulge in an in-room massage treatment and be treated like royalty. The Tremont Hotel is perfect for visitors that want to experience Chicago a little differently.

A Weekend at the Tremont Hotel”
Prior to my trip at the end of Feburary 09 I'd stayed at this hotel in November of 08. When I found a comparable rate, I cancelled my reservation at another hotel to stay there. Please note the other hotel had more stars and a hefty price tag and is considered the "it" place to stay. Nevertheless it does not have the feel and location of The Tremont. Plus, I've managed to get great rates both of the times I stayed at The Tremont. Which speaks volumes to my personal bottom line. The Location is amazing, within three blocks in any direction I can either be shopping on Michigan Ave, eating at an awesome cafe (suggested by hotel personnel), catching public transportation to any # of sites or relaxing at the local coffee shop.Plus the hotel is attached to a very nice restaurant that hosts historic sports memorabilia and a rather upscale atmoshpere if you want a more "white linen" experience. Those friends and family living all over the City found it very easy to locate and because of where it is we were able to have so many more choices of entertainment and meeting spots. The amenities are sparse as the Hotel appears to be holding on to the fact that it appears to have been built before most of its surrounding neighbors. So if you are looking for a place with flat panel TV's and jacuzzi tubs this is not it. But if you want a place that feels like home in that it's warm and inviting the staff treats you like an old friend, you don't have to mortgage your future to pay the bill then I'd say The Tremont should be at the top of your list. Chicago is a wonderful city stay some place that not only do you get the feel of the city but you are close enough to experience all what it has to offer.
Can't Go Wrong Staying Here”
Reasonable rates indeed for a downtown Chicago hotel that provides good sized, tastefully decorated rooms with comfortable beds and pretty white comforters. Ten minute walk from from the Red Line Chicago station [transfer from O'Hare Blue line at Washington - trip time from disembarking plane to arrival at hotel about 90 minutes]. Hotel has a modest number of rooms ["boutique" size] versus gargantuan hotels which means more personable service provided at the Tremont. . Hotel well located on opposite side of Michigan directly across from the John Hancock Building. Will surely stay at Tremont on any return visits to Chicago.
Exceptional”
The hotel is located in a great area, very close to Magnificent Mile, close to shops and restaurants and some tourist attractions. The only problem with that is that we could hear the fire engine sirens during the night very close, since it's close to the historic Chicago Fire Department, but I didn't mind so much. The rooms were very nice and comfortable, the staff was very helpful. I was amazed at how centric and nice the hotel was at such an accessible price, especially considering that I stayed so close to Memorial Weekend. It was an excellent find and a very pleasant experience, and I would definitely return.
A very nice stay”
When I first read the reviews about the hotel being very noisy because of the alley, the elevators being slow, the paint peeling on the walls, the bathtub backing up and the cable out, I was a bit concerned. To my great pleasure i had a great stay at the tremont. Staff was friendly, location cant be beat, the price was a steal. My bed was very comfortable and I got a view of the water and Michigan avenue. I have no complaints about the tremont. I will definatley stay again when I visit chicago. The shower pressure and cable also were up to par. Yes there was some noise from the garbage trucks sunday morning but that is to be expected when staying in a major city. Thank you tremont for a great visit to the windy city.
Centrally Located Hotel With Classical Decoration”
The Tremont Chicago Hotel at Magnificent Mile is conveniently nested in the heart of Chicago, just a few minutes from the city's world famous one-mile stretch of Michigan Avenue. Being a boutique hotel under the Starwood Hotel Group, you can expect to receive the same level of supreme service and hospitality as any other hotels under the same group. The room brings the best of both a classic resemblance of decoration and furniture of a luxury guest rooms in the good old days and a convenience brought by nowadays modern technology such as Wifi, microwave, etc.
Hidden Gem, great hotel!”
It was a pleasant stay at Tremont. It's around 5-10mins walk from Chicago-Red station, 3mins walk to Hershey's Chocolate Factory. It's situated directly downtown shopping area. It would be be prefect if there is a fridge in the room. Friendly staffs. Overall, great hotel and will definitely stay again if we were to visit Chicago again!
Fun in Downtown Chicago”
My wife and I came out to Chicago to see and volunteer at the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tournament and were in need of a reasonable hotel close to Oak Street Beach in downtown area. Thanks to Agoda, we got a GREAT deal at the Tremont, just a few blocks from the "beach". The location was excellent and we got around by walking and on the subway which had a stop just around the corner. The hotel staff was excellent and we loved the history of the old hotel. The elevator ride was always fun and we hoped that we would make it up and down in one piece as it was very old. Since we were on a tight budget, we did not get a chance to try Mike Ditka's restaurant but it looked fantastic. Maybe next time.
Convenient Location Downtown Chicago”
The location is perfect if you plan to hang out on the Magnificent Mile – to do some shopping or to visit tourist sites for which Chicago is known. Also, we liked the price – there’s nothing cheaper within miles and the condition is decent. Don’t expect American luxury, but it’s clean and satisfactory, just like many places in Europe.
Close to the action”
Pros: close to everything downtown, nothing is more than a mile away. Beds are comfortable, TV in room, friendly staff, luggage storage and early check ins, offers daily breakfast at Ditka’s for $13/ person. Cons: no mini fridge in room, room is on the small side with no views This is the perfect room for a single person or couple who doesn’t plan to spend much time in the room but wants to be close to everything that Chicago has to offer. 10 minute walk to river and 5 minute walk to the lake/beach. Great staff & cheapest prices for a room this nice. Would definitely stay here again.
Tremont in Chicago”
This was my first trip to Chicago, and the Tremont was the perfect spot to stay. Less than 1/2 block from Michegan Avenue and easy access to the subway station. The hotel offered a continental breakfast in the mornings - in the attached Ditkas' restaurant which also served us an amazing evening meal. We thought we were booking an double, but ended up in a king.
Great stay for cheap!”
It's not your huge lobby, waiting staff every corner of the eye, type of hotel. As you walk in, you might unconsciously worry a bit about service and quality of stay due to one visible elevator (another elevator is close by in a hallway) and a small reception desk. Worry not! The staff at reception are fast and attentive. I was there for business between Monday to Wednesday and I didn't have issues with elevator wait times. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Great location for people who want to be in the center of Chicago but don't want to break the bank!
Great location, cool old hotel”
The Tremont has a great location , conevient to the Chicago Red Line El station and close to N. Michigan Ave. Advertised as a queen, our room had a full size bed. The two room suite room was clean and quiet.
Week end in Chicago”
We were pleasantly surprised with the Hotel and the Staff. The hotel was conveniently located near downtown, the magnificent mile and the Lake. Although if we only had a week end and the weather was not going to permit lake time, we would opt to stay closer to the river. The staff were all pleasant with all but one being over the top in hospitality. The rooms were clean, nicely furnished and very comfortable. We had breakfast at Ditka's restaurant just downstairs. Pro's: Location, staff, value, proximity to restaurants, shopping and convenience stores. Con's: The maid didn't come each day, when she did come the service was inconsistent. Some days towels, toilet paper or coffee were replenished, some days they weren't. One front desk clerk was disinterested with guests, not cold but not friendly. I would stay here again.
Tremont Hotel in Chicago”
The Tremont Hotel is a great value for the location in downtown Chicago. The rooms are spacious and the heat and wireless internet work well, but the furnishings are quite outdated, including the poor quality old televisions. The staff are very friendly, but there are not many extras -- the maid service is poor and I don't think you could send a package from the front desk. Overall not fancy but a great value!
Beautiful Hotel in an Ideal Location”
The Tremont was clean and comfortable, and the staff was very courteous and accommodating. Will definitely stay with them next time I am in Chicago.
Tremont Hotel - Chicago”
This was our third stay at the hotel. The staff has always been most helpful and friendly. This time we had two issues and both were attended to quickly and effectively. We had no issues in our previous two visits. The location is excellent and the rates are reasonable. The rooms have always been clean, we've had a mini-fridge, and the wireless Internet has worked well. Connected to the Tremont is Mike Ditka's restaurant which offers a reasonably priced continental breakfast
Budget friendly! ”
I love this hotel! Our room was nice and cute though the bed is really high For a short person like me. But Im so happy we had the best view from our hotel room since we were on the 14th floor. Also the location is great you can go to almost every nice place in downtown chicago by walking.
Old building, small rooms, but great location!”
The location is the best selling point for the hotel. Only 200 yards from the John Hancock building, with great shopping and restaurants nearby. Perfect location for a visit to Chicago. The drawback is that it's an older hotel with a small and slow elevator. Nice and friendly, but kind of noisy at night or if you want to simply rest. Doesn't have a gym, but you can ask the staff to provide a pass, so you can use the gym at the nearby Westin, which is a very nice gym. There's also a Dicka's restaurant next door, which makes it easy to have a nice meal nearby. There's also a Starbucks across the street, so getting a coffee is very easy each morning. Overall, it was a nice, small hotel and I got a great deal booking through www.agoda.com . Staying at any other hotel, in the same area would have costs two to three times as much. Can't beat the location, but the rooms could use updating. It's 2010, time to maybe upgrade to a plasma/lcd television, that receives more than 10 cable channels.
Good hotel in Maginificent Mile Area”
This hotel is located in Magnificent Mile area which is a shopping district in Chicago. Nice building with good design, but our room is not so spacey.
Fun Chicago Euro Getaway”
I'm a Chicago native, so it was great fun to be back on Chestnut, which is simply one of the most prestigious addresses in the city. This hotel is a landmark, but it is wearing well. Physical condition of the hotel was better than average; staff were attentive and fun. So despite its venerableness, this was a fun place to be.
