I've been to many hostels and this hostel is not too bad! I stayed in a single room with my GF and everything was clean and comfortable! I used the common toilet and it wasn't too clean but I have a toilet inside my room so all is fine! Location was only satisfactory, but hey its cheap! Staff were friendly and helpful! As usual, people in the hostel were noisy at night, but it is a hostel, people are there to socialise and I don't mind the noise one bit. Overall, if you are a solo traveler, you might want to check the reviews of this hostel regarding their shared toilet! I'm not in the position to provide a balanced review on that!

If you are a loudmouth drunken party animal up to 3am, avoid this place. Kitchen closes at 9.30PM. If you are a backpacker worker, civil and polite and have to start work in the morning, the place is perfect. Rooms on ground floor are better, may need to move rooms to find a perfect match. Even a locker for work boots. Cons: Taxi cant stop out front, so arrange cnr Pitt and Cleaveland st. Comfy and safe.

I liked the location. Most of the attractions were a short train ride away. Also the shower pressures were good and always hot water there. The only thing to improve is the wifi. It was a slow

It’s okay here”
It’s alright. The only things is kitchen close is earlier. Here is clean and friendly stuff and tenants are nice here. Value for money. There’s a hostel called secret garden near here, don’t go there. Remember usually you pay cheaper price, you get cheaper service and you meet cheaper people.

Mainly 18-21 year olds living in the dorms”
The facilities are reasonable and the location is excellent but the dorm is mostly very young people on working holiday visas. Not many fellow travellers to talk to or see things with. Mostly 18-21s getting wasted when they're not working on a construction site

Do consider if you are afraid of insects. Fly, moth, spider in the room. We moved out early. But it's a personal problem though. Everyone waited half an hour to check in. Do not understand why.

Room wasn't cleaned, blood on the used sheets”
Upon arriving at my room, I quickly realised it had not been cleaned since last use. There was rubbish on the floor, dirt throughout, the sheets were used and scrunched on the bed, and with blood and dirt smeared across them just to paint the scene. I informed the staff, who said I would have to wait for the same room to be cleaned, and it should take just a "quick minute". After waiting for 30 minutes, the room was ready. However, after seeing it 30 minutes earlier, I wasn't put at ease. I had requested a different room, but this was laughed off, and I was left without recourse nor further accommodation. Never again

Good location, quite a few people love there so I was assigned 2 rooms with no beds since people use the extra beds as closets or something. Also bathroom was a single bathroom but so dirty. Wouldn't have stayed more than a night.stqff super helpful though

You get what you pay for here ”
In terms of the positives, one of the staff members, lovely South African lady kindly switched my room right away upon seeing for herself just how dirty the room was (mould, ect). Air con in the rooms is adjustable, windows can be opened for better air flow top. Cons: The kitchen and bathrooms were and most likely still are especially dirty. So much so that I absolutely dreaded using the toilet and whenever I opened the fridge the foul smell would immediately take away any appetite I might've had. One of the staff members, Sophie I believe , was extremely rude, think drill sergeant, when it came time to renew my room. I defintely stayed longer then i shouldve given everything, but now I'm at a much better hostel for only few dollars more. So if you are also on a tight budget, value an clean environment and friendly staff, come to 790 on George street!
