This is the best hotel in San Francisco. For sight seeing, it is in front of Union Square where pick up happens for all tours. The cable cars passes right by the front door. You can run to the wharf for 3k and back. It is just 10-12minutes walk to Moscone Convention Center. It is in the shopping district of San Francisco. You have the best choice of restaurants around. Most of all, it has best staff. At breakfast in the Oak Room, Uyen will keep your cup full and your toast to the T. The fruits were always fresh. The pastries and bread were delicious. The housekeeping staff was awesome. And John, at the bell service was so helpful with my huge bags. I had no trouble all the way. Andrea at the front desk was of great help in my booking. And I find the staff at the Fed-ex mail service really patient and of great assistance.Thank you. I had a great time in St Francis and at San Francisco. Is that the only elevator in the world that is like that?
Great hotel and service”
I stayed here with a couple of girlfriends the night before my wedding. The staff was very accommodating and were quick to bring us anything we needed. The room was clean and well-appointed and the hotel is in a great location - right on Union Square. Parking's expensive, but it is San Francisco... Would stay here again!
In the heart of San Francisco, across Union Square”
Westin St. Francis – great location in the heart of downtown San Francisco, across from Union Square. Lots of good restaurant/bars in the area. Shopping galore. Hop on the cablecar right in front the hotel.
all employees are very kind and i had great stay at the hotel. i would love to stay at the westin st. francis when i visit San Francisco. :)
Not too bad but there are better hotels in SF.”
As mentioned in the title, The Westin St Francis was not that bad overall, but I wouldn't bother again with the older "landmark" building, as there are much better hotels in San Francisco including the Westin on Market St. If I'd stayed in the tower I may have had a completely different experience. The room was a broom closet, although in good order, it's probably the smallest hotel room I've had in the US and there was no view at all out the window, it was not worth the price. I was also not thrilled to have to queue for 10 minutes to check in when I arrived after a 12 hour flight, there were about 15 people waiting and 2 staff at the front desk.
Old Hotel in a Great Location”
Overall, we had a good experience at the hotel. The location was amazing. However, the first room they put us in was on a low floor with windows that looked onto a building shaft of sorts and had a toilet that clucked and clamored everytime you flushed it. And did I mention the nearby service elevator??? They did change out our room when we complained. The new room was far better although the layout was a bit odd. Given its location, I was not disappointed and I would stay there again although there are other hotels I far prefer in San Francisco.
A weekend in the City.”
The St. Francis has served visitors to the City for over 100 years and is a great hotel. We stayed in a room with two double beds on the fourth floor of one of the two original wings. The room was good size and well maintained. There was a seperate alcove with desk for a computer and the web. More closet space than you need. There was a little noise from the street, but it was Powell Street and expected. Staff was very friendly. I remember the old lobby bar of 30 years ago and would like to see it back.
Great Central location in the Union Square ”
Westin St Francis is a great hotel centrally located and easily to get around with lot of shopping. Double bad room is big and clean with new carpet just less than 12 months.
Perfect location, friendly staff, & the best views! Best stay in san francisco
Right in the center of Union Square, it is the busiest hotel in this area. Just across the hotel you can find a big park and a hop on hop off bus tour. Left and right full on shops, Macy's and Walgreens just around the block. Clean room, large bed, and the staff is super nice. Too bad they charges wifi in the room, unless you are a member of the chain hotel.
Lost in transition”
We booked our room to be on Union Square for the USC-Cal band rally. The location is great. However now it feels like another Westin and not the historical and romantic St Francis of old. On the plus side the rooms are much more modern and comfortable than before.
Superb location, great room”
We couldn't have a better hotel for a weekend in the city with friends. The hotel is located on Union square, so incredibly central and within walking distance from shopping area's, parks, famous buildings, china town, financial district, market street, etc. Perfect.
the most intricately crafted hotel lobby”
I had a great time staying at the westin. Check in staff was very helpful and friendly. The porter service was prompt and the highlight of the hotel is its lobby bar. Drinks were served at the right temperature and the selection was reasonably impressive. Other than its perfect location, the personal touch makes a traveller like me feels at home. I am looking forward to staying at the westin on my next visit.
Right in the center of Union Square, a very good place to stay. The room is quite big, the staff is super friendly and they give starbucks coffee as a compliment in your room. There's a lot of stores around the block within walking distance.
We put 2 bottles of water in the fridge. When we checked out there was a $26 charge for the fridge. We told them we did not take anything out, we just put 2 bottles of water IN the fridge. Apparently there is a sensor in the fridge that even if you touch anything in there, you are charged for it. Felt like "Big Brother" was watching us. The hotel did retract the charge after we told them we had put the bottles into the fridge. We really liked the Warwick Hotel we stayed in on Geary Street after we left the Westin..
ONE NIGHT EXTENDED STAY”
At first we're pleased with the service at the front desk, we choose this hotel because again it's location location and location just in the center of union square, the room was clean and nice, since we just stay less than 4hours to catch our next flight, i can't say much but love it. eventhough the WiFi is bad
Centrally located hotel in upscale neighborhood”
Our stay would have been perfect in this hotel except for one very annoying and insulting staff at the concierge desk named Ms. Christy. The hotel is centrally located and the rooms are big and spacious. Concierge men like Jeff and Anthony were polite, well-mannered and very informative. Ms. Christy on the other hand was rude and obnoxious. She rudely asked me to return to line when I mistaken stood too close to hotel guest before me. When I was up next, she entertained a query on side from a Caucasian guest who was not on line. So discriminating and unprofessional. The Westin is a respected and well known hotel chain all over the world. This was the only time, I questioned myself if it was worth paying this price for a hotel room to be insulted by a concierge staff simply based on my skin tone. This happened before lunch on April 17/18, 2014. To avoid this unpleasant experience, your manager should remind the staff to be "hospitable" to all guests regardless of color or race. This behavior is very UN-WESTIN. If the staff is unable to comply, then she has no business to be in this industry.
Poor Staff ”
Waited 30 min to check out because the receptionist to ignore the line of people waiting for them. There is a time for you to have a good chat with your customers but not when there are around 10 people waiting in line and I just have 1 person in front of me. Imagine those waiting behind me. When its my turn, the lady doesn't seem to want to serve me (maybe because I am asian), no smile nothing. Just straight away, what do you want. Everything is good except for some of the front desk staff. Not the best Westin among all the Westin I been to. Other than that, its a great and amazing building as expected from the Westin.
A tired landmark in a central city location.”
Stayed overnight during the holidays. The location in Union Square is key and the lobby and historic building alone are impressive. Slow service upon check in and limited knowledge from the concierge on providing in-room amenities for infants. Personnel seemed spread thin. Rooms are old with charm, but decor and amenities are exceptionally spartan for a Westin brand and iconic landmark. Carpeted floors are worn and soiled.
Nearby union square and 5 mins walk to the shopping area. Ease to access any attractions in bay area.
