Great location, hit-and-miss customer service”

We stayed at Thiwson Beach for a week, and after riding motor scooters all over the island we know this place has one of the best locations on the island. It’s east-facing, so you don’t get sunsets. But the view of the islands and limestone in the bay are beautiful. The resort isn’t on a sandy beach exactly - there’s a rock wall, a small drop-off, and then a rocky beach. At low tide you can walk to the left along a very long, sandy beach. Some trash, though - it’s mostly nice. The food at the restaurant is very, very good, and they offer a happy hour. The massages we got were excellent. They arranged motor bikes for us for a very reasonable price - better than the place up the street. We paid 200 baht each for half-day, which was 6 hours. That’s plenty of time to explore - we spent a day exploring the north end, and a day exploring the south end. The roads on Koh Yao Yai are not crowded, so it’s easy even for beginners who’ve never used a motor bike before. Customer service was inconsistent. Half of the time no one seemed to care or want to accommodate our request, and half the time they were great at answering questions and solving problems. This is a family-run place, and they don’t seem all that interested in getting to know the customers. They’re not unfriendly, just not always very accommodating. It might be a language barrier - we tried to joke with the restaurant staff, but they were a bit stiff. All in all, this is a great place to stay - there aren’t many places like this on Koh Yao Yai. There are places to walk to nearby for good food and drinks, and a little mini-market that the resort owns right up the hill, so it’s easy to get things you need.

Lovely stay. Would go back.”

Had a lovely 3 day stay here. Got a ferry from Bang Rong Pier (every hour) and then a taxi (300B) to the resort. We got way before check-in time, but they were able to get us into our room. We got a room on the higher hill, which is across the street from the beach front (main) section of the resort. I would recommend a beach view or a garden view (both in the front/main section) since they're right by the beach/restaurant/pool (there is a 2nd pool in the higher level). The rooms were nice and air conditioned, with working bathrooms and showers. And they clean the rooms daily and provide fresh towels and water bottles (beach & bathroom). There is also a cafe and a convenience store which was nice if you wanted a bag of chips or lotion etc. Activity wise, they have a long-tail boat tour of the islands near by (AM & PM) for 3500B (2 people) which includes water, fruit and fried rice. The PM one ends on a small island to watch the sunset. We also rented a scooter the second day for 350B (24hrs, gas not included). Riding around the island was a lot of fun, although there aren't really any crystal clear beaches here. A lot of them are swampy or rocky. In all, we had a lovely time. The included breakfast was simple, but good and the restaurant serves good Thai food. Afterwards, we were on Koh Phi Phi, which had islands with incomparably beautiful beaches, but super rowdy with tourists. So the contrast was perfect. We got to enjoy both scenes. If you are doing the same (Koh Phi Phi from Koh Yao Yai), the resort will set up a taxi (200B) and direct speed boat (1800B for 2 people) direct to Koh Phi Phi. It's a bit expensive, but definitely saves time by a few hours.

AMAZING!!!! ”

What a place! After travelling Thailand for a while we decided we wanted somewhere to unwind and relax. Thankfully we discovered this beautiful quite island Koh Yao Yai.. thiwsson beach resort made our stay here INCREDIBLE. The hidden gem here really is the resturant. The food was out of this world compared to much food around Thailand. The staff made us feel very welcome and helped us with anything we needed. The deluxe hillside room was beautiful and the air con was the best we’ve had in Thailand. The hotel put us in a car with our luggage and drove us to our room at the top of the hill.. one of the many amazing touches from this hotel. We were only meant to stay here 2 nights but ended up extending for 5! I couldn’t recommend this hidden gem any more! P.S hire a scooter from the hotel and explore the beautiful island and hidden beaches!!!

Very nice stay, good value for money”

The resort has bungalows of different types, a nice pool, a good restaurant and a bar. It is located at the east side of Koh Yao Yai, directly at the beach. The beach is not very suited for bathing, as the low tide in the afternoon leaves a lot of mud to cross before you get to the water. The bungalow was very clean, fresh towels for the bathroom and the pool were supplied daily. Staff was helpful, though the communication in English was not straightforward sometimes. You can rent kayaks and scooters at acceptable rates. Make sure to check your bill at the end, in our case there were a couple of meals wrongly booked towards our room, though I strongly believe it was an honest mistake. Also, service charges were not included in the room price. Great western breakfast with good coffee and fresh fruit. Overall we had a very good time there.

Beautiful beachside resort”

Breath taking views, great pool, and solid restaurant

We spent a couple of nights here and we highly suggest checking out Koh Yao Yai. The island itself has only been open to tourism for a couple of years so there are a lot of undeveloped and very pretty beaches and natural beauty to be seen here. Most of the resorts (3-5) and restaurants are found on the northern tip of the island. This part of the island is predominantly buddhist and were you want to go if you need a beer or a cocktail. The other side of the island is predominantly muslim and does not serve alcohol, neither at the store or at restaurants. There is a very cool bar right up the road (make a right and the bar is up the hill on your right) that has fantastic food and a very cool bartender. Our room was very chic and the air conditioning was superb. The staff here was very friendly and helpful. Go check this island out before it becomes overcrowded with resorts. Definitely worth the visit!!!

Beachfront Idyll”

This has been the first time we have visited Ko Yao Yai although we have seen it from Klong Muang, Krabi many times and wondered what was there. We chose Thiwson Beach because of its nearness to Chong Lad pier and from the many positive reviews of other travellers. We were not disappointed. We had a beachfront bungalow which provided an excellent view of Phang Nga bay (and across to Klong Muang!). The room is large and airy with high ceilings, seperate bathroom and open-air shower and air-conditioning but no fan. Breakfast (included) consisted of eggs, cooked as you preferred, bacon and tomato, an excellent selection of fresh fruits, cereal, cake and pancakes. The dinner that we ate there was very good and the prices for food and drink quite reasonable. There are also a few restaurants within walking distance of the resort if you feel like a change. Staff were friendly and attentive without being overly so. I will definitely stay there again if I return to Ko Yao Yai

Amazing stay for relaxed holidays ”

The bungalows are super nice, especially the rain showers. But you should know that there are insects and lizards in your room due to its open construction. We had a very old mosquito net with holes which could’ve been replaced. The staff is amazing and very friendly. Food in the restaurant comes with an incredible view and it’s veeeeeery delicious and fresh. Pools are clean and very nice. The beach is not a swimming beach! Koh Yao Yai has changed a lot since my last stay 5 years ago, there are construction works everywhere and bungalows are build every few miles. There are multiple shops and atms now, but the island still feels very relaxed and lonely.

Love, Love, Loved the place”

After spending time at Ao Nang and Railey Beach we booked into Thiwson Beach for 4 nights. We stayed for 14 nights! It was so peaceful, very few tourist on the island. It was just wonderful. The food at the restaurant was very good, and we also eat at Jikgo's just up the road. There is also a mini-mart next door where you could pick up supplies if needed along with an ATM machine. The hotel made arrangements to get us to Koh Lanta, perfect. We took a long boat to the mainland, a taxi was waiting for us to take us to the bus station in Krabi. The van then took us to Koh Lanta to our hotel. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a nice place to stay away from all the crowds. P,S. The pool was to die for.

Peaceful, calm, perfect hideaway spot for 2-3 days”

Very beautiful resort with an infinity pool, chairs on the sandy beach, restaurant had great appetisers but we didn't think the main dishes were outstanding. The lodging was very nice, roomy and clean with a porch at the front to sit down and enjoy the view of the pool and beach (room B5). The bathroom is outdoors but the walls hide you from unwelcomed eyes and only the shower is more on the "outside" side. The staff made us change rooms on the last night even though we booked the same kind for an extra night (wished we could stay in the same room) but they were perfect in planning our sunrise transfer to catch the 7:30am longboat on another island (ko yao noi; it's the only departure to phang nga each day) : taxi, boat, taxi and boat. The island ko yao yai is fun to discover on a scooter, is not touristy (2 or 3 on a level of 5 being the max) and the hotel has different activities to choose from with local tours.

nice small resort ”

We stayed 3 nights at the Thiwson Resort. First night in a standard and two nights in a seaview bungalow, which was much nicer. The standard would have been ok, if the bathroom would have been in a better condition and without a bat hanging from the roof eating dinner there. The shower was outside and there was no door. Especially at nighttime it was challenging as there was also no light outside. The pool was nice but not usable for blond people as they put copper in the water which makes green hair. Swimming in the sea was not really possible, only 1 time there was enough water. But the view from the beach is nice and they have sun chairs at the beach very disapointing was the restaurant - breakfast was really limited - we stayed at Koh Yao Yai Village for just 10 Euro more per night and had a 5star breakfast - at Thiwson it was really nothing for this price. Also the rest of the food was absolutely poor and long waiting time. Better go to Jigko Bar just a few minutes down the road.

Nice hotel.. iffy food”

the bungalow was great, clean, had a nice outdoor bathroom, the pool was nice, and the private beach was amazing

I was very excited to come to the Thiwson Beach Resort, as I booked it a few months in advance. On arrival, we were greeted with cold towels, yummy juice and friendly staff. We were only paying $30 for the fan-only bungalow, so such a greeting was a nice surprise. On first looks, we had entered paradise. A great place to stay for a romantic getaway. We were feeling great and enjoyed our first day on the beach, which you have pretty much to yourself with an incredible view. When we were calling it a night on day 1, we both got very ill. I was vomiting all night long, and my boyfriend had fever and stomach problems for the next few days. I'm 99% sure we got food poisoning from dinner that night. After that, we were extremely careful with what we ate when we were there. The downside of the hotel being so remote was that there was nowhere else to eat, except for the hotel next door, which was significantly more pricey. We could have rented a motorbike to head to the town on the island, but we were so ill, that was not an option. I began noticing the state of the kitchen, that you HAVE to walk by if you're staying in one of the bungalows on the back row because that's the only path to the beach and main part of the resort, and I was disgusted every time I walked by. They had let dirty dishes pile a little too high and left them a little too long in the hot sun every day. This is not something you want to see when you're headed to the beach, especially if you're trying to get over food poisoning. I hate giving this bad review because I really loved the facilities overall, and the staff was friendly and trying to make our stay very pleasant. I just can't ignore the sanitation of kitchen area. That can really ruin a vacation.

cozy, beach access, good value, nice staff”

Very nice staff, good value for money, nice bungalow,

we enjoyed the small, very nice resort with nice bungalow, the very friendly and helpful staff, the quiet surrounding, just a few toursists/resorts on the island and the easy and short access from the phuket airport (20 Minutes Taxi, 20 Minutes speed boat or 1 hour boat transfer, 10 minutes by hotel transport. At low tide, you can walk for hours on the beach, at high tide, its nice to swim. Its easy and nice to rent a bike and investigate the island. You can also hop on Koh Yao Noi within a very short time to investigate.

Lovely place”

There is not that much going on at Koh Yao Yai, but at least you can rent kayaks and motorcycle at the hotel. The make pic ups from the ferry and are in general very friendly and helpful. We had a bungalow with fan (including breakfast) and that was quite cheap. It was all clean and no animals at all in our bungalow even though there isn't a roof above the shower (there were only some lonely mosquitos). The breakfast wasn't that special but ok. There were some other fine restaurants nearby.

They make it right”

a great place, bungalows on the beach, staff is welcoming and the cleaning is very good on the resort, both inside and outside. Idealy located at the north of Koh Yao Yai. Outside private showers, that's a plus. A bit expensive though. I recommend !

Exceptional”

have been at thiwson for 2 nights with wife and 4 years old daughter. resort features nice infinity pool with jacuzzi corner, sea view and child play area. pool boy was very helpful and friendly. though critical guests may find the pool water not at its best quality. breakfast served next to beach and good selection of food and beverages and attentive staff. we stayed at sea view bungalow everything was ok. see images on website. bungalow has working ac though might be worth investing in an additional ceiling fan. in walking distance airconditioned cafe with sea view, mini market and restaurant. i saw that rates vary widely. there might be a risk that you miss price/value ratio.

Good value for money spent.”

Lucked out and got brand new bungalows (they are the ones highest on the hill above the road). Only complaint were there are tiny ants that were a bit of an annoyance but other than that no complaints. Hard Bed, nice AC unit, cute deck. 2 pool options although the bar is down at the bottom pool. Food was pretty yummy. Koh Yao Yai is pretty quiet. You can rent scooters from the hotel and ride all around the island and explore.

Tricky to get to but relaxing once there! ”

If you are headed to Thiwson - enjoy and get there early because transportation options are limited. Cab to pier (650 baht), ferry to island (300 baht per person- public or 2500 baht for private boat) and then cab (aka back of truck 100 baht per). From what we saw the last ferry is at 5:00 so just be very mindful of when you arrive to make sure you can get there. Also- private boat says he can get you right to the resort but since there is no pier/dock at resort you have to climb off boat w luggage and wade to resort! As many have said, don’t go there for the beach it doesn’t really exist but go for the relaxing atmosphere, the awesome massages, the pool and the outdoor shower. We stayed in the beach bungalows which we highly recommend- plenty of space, a nice deck, whirlpool tub and nice outside shower. Apparently Thai’s like firm beds - no exception here- they are SUPER FIRM. The head massage gal is awesome and the massages are great- take advantage of that & food!

It's good for the price, and generally quite nice”

sunrise beach, nice pool, reasonably nice rooms

It was a lovely experience overall. It seems to be the least expensive option as far as beach front resorts go, and it was worth it for sure, but there are much nicer options around if you can pay a bit more. The sea water wasn't super swimming friendly when we were there, but that could be due to the tides and rainy season as the water was muddyish, but the water was beautiful to look at for sunrise. The hotel is nicely kept, but unless you just want to chill out and do nothing, you'll want to get a motorbike or get someone to take you around the island. We actually preferred Khao Yao Noi when we visited, but there were some great beaches around Khao Yao Yai if you explore (the best beaches were not easy to find for us at least). One thing: the food was really not too great at the resort, at least for a vegetarian. Perhaps the meat or fish dishes are better, but even the breakfast was a bit meh. Other hotel restaurants on the island were way better. But as I said Thiwson was worth it and very pleasant overall.

Really good bungalows - quiet island”

Excellent bungalow, clean and comfortable

The resort is located on Ko Yao Yai which ist still not very developed - only 5 resorts there. The Superior bungalow was the best bungalow I stayed in during 1 month of travels through Thailand. Really nice front porch with loungers. Shower is sort of outside surrounded by a wall. The free wifi router was attached to my bungalow so I had excellent reception. Only negative was the bad smell of the towels. Not really the place to go swimming coz of the very shallow water and tides, but I took a scooter and cruised around the island. It was very windy but the sea was nice and calm on the other side of the island (west coast).

Perfect resort in authentic Koh Yao Yai”

Small (only 15 rooms), friendly thai service, stunning view

We booked through agoda for ten days in a superior bungalow (with aircon). Our bungalow was on the second row from the beach with a beautiful ( Well maintained) pool in front of us. We liked the bungalow and thought it was a Great for the money. Housekeeping was daily, and that included two bottles of water in the fridge. After ten days we decided to stay a week longer and moved to deluxe seaview bungalow. This bungalow was really nice with a stunning view, lots of space for our three Year old to play around. The familie who ownes this place is really friendly and did everything to make our stay perfect. We rented motorbikes to Discover the island. The island is really quiet and peaseful with authentic thai friendlyness and smiles everywhere you go. I would definately stay here again. This is our 12th stay in Thailand. We have seen and experienced many Islands and resorts in many priceranges. We think Thiwson is our alltime favorite.
