On an island known for its monthly rave parties, Thong Nai Pan Beach is a peaceful hideaway that offers the idyllic island atmosphere without the wild parties and late-night crowds.
There is essentially a single crescent-shaped beach here, broken in two by a rocky headland. The northern beach, Thong Nai Pan Noi, is where most of the accommodation at Thong Nai Pan Beach is found. These include lavish, five-star resorts and a few mid-range hotels that offer a quiet, rustic escape.
Thong Nai Pan Yai is south of the headland. It has its own share of resorts and beach chalets. The latter cater to backpackers with some of cheapest, most basic accommodation in the area.
These beaches are far removed from the Full Moon Parties on the north shore, but they still have rustic beach bars and restaurants to keep guests entertained. Swimming and body surfing are popular at these beaches.
Part of the reason hotels at Thong Nai Pan Beach are so rustic and laid-back is because the only way in is by dirt road. For the time being, this is putting major development projects on hold. It’s also possible to get here by boat from elsewhere on Koh Phangan or Koh Samui.
