A gem near Kandy”

We stayed at Thotupola Residence with 2 small children. We had the very spacious room in the garden overlooking the river. There were 2 giant beds next to each other which was just perfect for our family. Thotupola is a little bit outside busy Kandy which was perfect for us: we really enjoyed the quiet garden and terrace overlooking the river. The hostess was really friendly and helped us wherever she could. We really enjoyed her cooking as well - her curry was outstanding. Even when we forgot our Lonely Planet when we left, the owners did everything they could in order for us to get it back (thank you so much for that!!). We really enjoyed our stay here and will recommend this place to everybody.

Nice location, not worth the money, needs much improvement”

First, it's a bit hard to find. Google maps is your best bet. However, it's quite close to Kandy city. It's a beautiful location by the river with friendly owners and staff. Don't expect room service or dinner on short notice. Usually I order room service all over the world for dinner as my young kids are tired after a day's activities. This is the first time I was refused ever and in my own country. That then was a red flag for me. So my advice is to organize your own dinner outside in the city of Kandy. The breakfast was nice but basic with eggs and bread. However, I do appreciate the friendly owners serving rice, dhall and sausages for my daughter who is allergic to bread and eggs. The family room was big with two comfortable beds. Airconditioning was not available which was a big disappointment. The room was dirty with dusty floors. We all had black feet walking barefoot. All in all, nice place but there are better in Kandy which I know for a fact! Lesson learned.

Host mother is a good chef of a their small restaurant. So we helped with the preparations for dinner like a cooking class, it was very interesting experience. Sri Lankan style dishes yummy!! In the night, you can watch fireflies and stars. They have hot shower and clean rooms, so comfortable. You can have a break first while looking at the river. We want to come again!!

Sehr schönes Hotel, ruhige Lage, zu teures Essen”

Ein sauberes Zimmer, ein bequemes Bett, sehr nette Leute. Der Tuk-Tuk-Fahrer, den sie standardmäßig rufen, ist absolut großartig. Das Frühstück ist soweit gut, aber auch nicht spitze, was vor allem am sehr labbrigen Toast liegt. Wir haben unseren Aufenthalt insgesamt sehr genossen. Allerdings: Wir haben am ersten Abend ein recht einfaches Abendessen im Hotel eingenommen (kamen sehr spät an, daher konnte die Besitzerin nichts großes mehr kochen). Bei der Abreise standen dann 2800 Rupien nur für das Essen auf der Rechnung, was extrem viel ist. Daneben hatten wir versehentlich nur für eine Person gebucht. Dass wir für die zweite Person extra zahlen, versteht sich von selbst. Allerdings war der Aufpreis sehr heftig. Auf Agoda ist der Unterschied zwischen einer und zwei Personen nicht im Ansatz so groß. Wir sind daher mit einem recht bitteren Beigeschmack abgereist. Wir empfehlen das Hotel - bedingt.
