Really great hotel for a trip to Tokyo”
I went to Tokyo for a 7-day long trip. I assumed I was going to spend my time mainly outside, around the city so I was looking for a hotel that would be pleasant, comfortable, but affordable, as I was planning to eat and spend the day outside. Tokyo Ueno New Izu Hotel was a great choice - it's located in the heart of Ueno, about 8-minute walk from the Keisei Ueno Station, which is the last stop for the Skyliner Express, right from the Narita Airport. You can walk to the hotel through the Ameyoko District, which is a must-see for a newcomer. The hotel is small, rooms are too, but they are very clean (cleaning is made everyday till 2.30 pm), including fresh towels and bedsheets. Also, amenities, toothbrush and welcome cup of tea are provided. Since I stayed a whole week, I also got a farewell gift - a pair of laquer-coated chopsticks. :)There's no cigarette smell, rooms are air-conditioned, but windows also open. You can borrow the LAN cable for the Internet in your room, which requires a deposit, but of course you get it back when you check-out. The personnel is also great! I had really great time, welcomed in the morning and in the evening by those nice people. I recommend it with my whole heart!
Comfortable and conveniently close to the station”
Great value for money. The staff was really kind and helpfull. They also helped me when I lost a jacket in a JR train. They helped me with the telephone call to the JR lost&found assistance. The room was really clean and so the bathroom, although it was a shared one. Internet in room was fast and I could connect my computer without a problem. The location is perfect to visit Ueno area (park, zoo, museum) and the Ueno Station is only to 5 minutes of walk. A convenience store is located adjacent to the hotel, therefore you can buy easily food or what you need anytime. In the hotel there are some drinks machines. I had the breakfast in the hotel just once, but it was tasty and tipically Japanese with the add of coffee. I stayed in this hotel 7 years ago with a my friend, but I can say it's great even if you are a solo traveler. I'm sure I'll use Tokyo Ueno New Izu Hotel again in the future.
Clean, comfortable, convenient, nice staff”
I chose Ueno New Izu Hotel because it looked clean and tidy on the photos, and it turned out to be clean and tidy (there was only one instance when the cleaning staff forgot a towel in the room). The air con is super nice in a single person room, and the built in washroom is recommended over shared bathroom. There is a Lawson right below the building and a 7-11 nearby. Less than 5 mins on foot to Ueno Station with JR, metro and Keisei line directly to airport. Shopping/market street near Ueno station provides a lot of food options. Staff is friendly and they even helped me pick up a package. Would stay here again and I recommend this hotel. The only thing is that they do not provide breakfast, but the convenience stores have and nearby stores have all the breakfast you need. Hotel also provides free umbrellas for use on rainy days.
Great location, friendly english speaking staff”
the tokyo ueno new izu hotel is just a 5 min walk from the jr ueno station. even if you're carrying luggage (rolling) you'll get in no time. this hotel is very convenient as it is within walking distance from a jr yamanote line station, and also because it's near tokyo's famous ueno park and zoo and also the ameyoko market which is always full of live and bargains during the day, and nice and cheap restaurants in the evening. the staff is very friendly, english speaking. the rooms although small, are very clean, tidy and have all the facilities you need for your stay. lan internet is available at no cost. there's a lawson convenience store just below the hotel open 24h a day, and a 7 eleven just around the corner.
Great Hotel!”
The location is great!! Great access to and from airport : -For those who got Japan rail pass, you can take Narita express to Tokyo station and come to Ueno station with Yamanote line (loop train)which is very easy. -For those who do not use JP rail pass, just take Keisei line straight to Ueno station and walk a bit to hotel. Great access to sight seeing : -Ueno park and zoo is 10 mins walk -Asakusa is about 20 mins walk -Kuppabashi (kitchenware street) is about 15 mins walk Great access to shopping and dining : -Ameyoko market is about 7 mins walks. -Takeya (discount supermarket, cloth, appliance and etc)is about 7 mins walks. -OIOI, Gap, Muji, Uniqlo, Arte is about 7 mins walk -convenient store "Lawson" is next to hotel. Room: I got a Japanese room type for 3 people. It is quite big considering that most of the room in Japan is small. There is an in-room Bath-shower room and toilet. Hotel staff will make up room everyday. I came back to hotel around 11 am once and found that they open the window for nice and clean air to flow. Staff: Staff are nice and helpful. They speak quite good English. Laundry service: coin laundry and dryer are available.
Smart design, compact, quiet and clean”
I'm a solo traveler and writer and needed to find a quiet, clean hotel in Ueno to hunker down and get some writing done. The Tokyo Ueno New Izu Hotel suited my needs at the time. I was impressed by the hotel room's compact and efficient design. The little desk with a swivel chair and a soft-light reading lamp set a nice ambiance. There is a small fridge and a tiny bathroom that is yet very clean has it all - toilet, sink and a shower which had excellent water pressure and temperature. There is even a small flashlight clipped onto the outside of desk next to the bed. Japan is renowned for it's thoroughness and thoughtfulness and the room design at the Tokyo Ueno New Izu Hotel seemed to reflect these positive qualities. The street the hotel is on is very quiet at night and the Lawson convenience store below on the main floor is open 24 hours. This looks like a newer hotel and I hope the owners maintain it well.
"Japanese Style Rooms"”
It was a great experience to stay at a Japanese style room at the New Izu Hotel when other nearby hotels offer only Western style rooms. Good location, it is also near the JR Ueno Station. Try their authentic Japanese breakfast - it's really good!
Great service in a convenient location”
This was my second stay here within a year. The reason I chose this hotel to stay in again was because of the great service during my last stay here. The staff is always helpful and friendly and they remembered me from my last stay. The hotel is very close to the Keisei Ueno station as well as the Tokyo Metro station. Ameyoko is also a 3 minute walk from the hotel and has alot of shops and eating places. Ueno Park and some museums are very close, and there's a convenience store on the first floor as well. The cost is very reasonable and you get a great room and service also. I'll stay here the next time I'm in Tokyo again.
Nice location, friendly staffs, very clean”
This is my second time for Ueno New Izu Hotel. Location is nice, walking distance to Ameyoko. Staffs are very friendly and helpful.. look forward to see you next time:)
Fantastic location with great service”
great service with front desk staff speaking english also. the tragic earthquake hit while staying here and the staff was terrific. updates were constant and all needs were taken care of. additional help and information were also provided. the hotel is very close to ameyoko and the ueno train stations, making it very convenient to also access any other area of tokyo and beyond. the breakfast is inexpensive and very good. the room is the standard small tokyo size, but still comfortable. i'll be back the next time i'm in tokyo.
Hospitable service and great location”
The best attribute of this hotel is its close proximity to the Ueno traffic hub. It only takes you around 10 minute-walk from the hotel to all three major rail systems in Ueno. From the airport, you can take the Skyliner train to Ueno for a little less than an hour at around 2400Yen, or you may also choose to take the express line for a cheaper price but it may take more than an hour to reach Ueno, but either way is very convenient. Read through the comments left by other Agoda guests for the tips to get to the hotel from the Ueno station, that you'd have no problem navigating yourself. The Ameyoko Market is just another 5-min walk from the hotel, from where you can get a variety of stuff at a very good bargain, make sure you pay a visit. Also, the Skytree, the new landmark erected in Asakusa district, is also a few metro stations from Ueno along the Ginza Line on the Tokyo Metro. For the room, it's very small as you can expect but they have anything you need. My room didnt get any wifi signal but you can get it in the lobby. Alternatively, if you bring your laptop or notebook with you, they have a LAN line inside the room that you can bring a cable or loan one at the counter with a refundable deposit of just 200Yen. There's a convenient store, Lawson, just next to the hotel establishment. All in all, it's a very pleasant stay for me with this hotel.
Ueno New Izu Hotel comments”
The Hotel is quite close to Ueno station, however it was difficult to locate for the first time. We had taken the skyliner train from Narita to Keisei- Ueno station, which is across from Ueno station. Look for the Mitsui Garden Hotel, can't miss the tall building. The hotel is located on a street behind there. Look for the sign Lawson, as the entrance to New Izu is next door. We had booked twin beds and the room was bigger than I had initially thought it would be. It had a small couch in the room. The room was clean and tidy.
Good place to stay in Ueno Tokyo”
The hotel is located in a quiet area in Ueno. There’s a convenience store just beside the hotel. It’s a 5 to 10 minute walk from Ueno Station. The staff was very helpful to us and allowed us to check in earlier than 3pm when there was a room available. The room is small but enough for us. The amenities were sufficient as well. Plus, the hotel staff cleans the room everyday. I would consider this hotel again when we come back to Tokyo.
Small rooms but clean and friendly staff”
My boyfriend and I stayed travelled to Tokyo for 2 weeks at the end of February 2012 and stayed at this hotel for the whole duration. It's in a very convenient location, close to JR, Metro and Keisei lines as well as many restaurants in the area. A Lawsons convenience store is downstairs if you want snacks or drinks and it's within walking distance (about 15-20min walk) to Akihabara for electronics, Asakusa for Sensoji temple and Skytree as well as Nippori for the Fabric Town. It's also very close to Ueno Park which is great during sakura season as well as for Ueno Zoo. The rooms are very small, perhaps even smaller than some business hotels I've stayed at on previous visits, but it was still sufficient for our purposes. Toothbrushes, toothpaste and green tea are provided on a daily basis. You can also take shavers and bath sponges from the front counter for free. Wireless internet is available in the lobby which can also be accessed (although signals are not great) in the rooms, although rooms above level 3 might not receive any. Complimentary wired internet is available in all the rooms and cables can be borrowed from reception for a deposit of 200yen which is returned when the cable is returned. Not all staff can speak English but there's always someone there who can and they are all very friendly and willing to help with any needs. Scales can be borrowed from reception also to weigh luggage. Breakfast is available for a small fee but I recommend visiting the many restaurants in the area which are only 5 minutes away. If you enjoy nightlife, there are many izakayas (Japanese style bars) in the area which open till late, some are open 24hours. I highly recommend trying their skewers and oden over a glass of beer, some restaurants have English menus, you'll just need to ask. Overall a good hotel as a base for sightseeing and shopping.
Good location. ”
In my opinion the ueno new izu is a good hotel near Tokyo metro ueno and keisei ueno station. You can relax and shopping around ameyo market. The room is small. But comfortable good for safe budget.
Ueno Central!”
We found the hotel easy to access, with an easy walk to Ueno JR and Keisei stations. The Japanese room was beautiful, comparatively large, and with an integral "japanese" bath. The "Western" room was also large enough for 2 friends to share, comfortable beds and a good bathroom. If you want to visit places like Asakusa, Akahibara, etc - Ueno is central, and within very easy reach of much of what Tokyo offers.
Small rooms but well equiped. ”
with the map, it was easy to get to the hotel. after we drop off yhe luggage, we went back to ueno station and found a lift to the station. which is v convenient, versus climbing up the overhead bridge with ur luggage. head towards the tokyo metro lost & found office near the hibiya line. the hotel is 5 min away, after coming out from the lift. we stayed there at the beginning and end of our jaoan trip. got a slightly bigger room the 2nd time round so do ask for a bigger room..

I loved my stay here!”
I've read good reviews of this hotel before I picked it, and I have to wholeheartedly agree! I stayed in a single with a shared bath for three weeks, and it was wonderful and very affordable. Much better than my European experiences. Sealy Posturepedic bed, fresh sheets, robes and towels every day, heater/air conditioner with remote, TV with pay per view option, super SUPER fast internet, hot HOT water always, high tech toilet, deep DEEP bathtub and shower, free massage chair in the lobby, travel book library in many languages, shoehorn, slippers, teapot, mini fridge, laundry room, and very helpful and friendly staff. Convenience store with good food right next door a big plus, and short walk to Ueno station with helpful signs to find the hotel. I would gladly stay there again!
Highly recommended.”
Ueno is an ideal place to explore Tokyo! Easily accessible by rail from either airport (especially for those travelling with heavy luggage) and literally minutes away from numerous shopping outlets. Ueno park offers a nice and quite retreat in the bustling metropolis. English speaking staff is a huge plus. The room is small but wonderfully arranged- the Japanese wisdom. Will definitely stay at the place again.
