Small room but felt like home”
I recently stayed 5 nights in early February. To begin with, the only "negative" about the Tokyo UenoHotel is the fact that it's a budget hotel in Tokyo, which means the rooms aren't very big, especially for a couple (but that's something you should expect in Tokyo I gather). That being said, I purposely chose this hotel because it wasn't as expensive as other places, and all in all, I was very happy with the choice, and it ended up being my favorite hotel during my whole Japan trip. First off, for those unsure about staying in Ueno versus the flashier neighborhoods, I was extremely happy with my decision to stay in Ueno. The neighborhood gave a certain ambiance that was a bit more working-class compared to the glitzy neighborhoods like Shinjuku or Shibuya. I appreciated that ambiance, as it kind of made the place feel like home. Ueno has a great location with easy access to the Keisei Skyler/Main Line to Narita Airport, the JR Yamanote line, the subway, etc. While Ueno is probably 25-30 minutes away on the Yamanote Line from Shinjuku, Harajuku, Shibuya, etc., it's also quite close to other areas tourists will probably go: Asakusa, Tokyo Station, the Imperial Gardens, Tokyo Dome/Bunkyo Civic Center, etc. Ueno is also fun in it's own right with the market, restaurants, and park nearby. It is about a 10-minute walk from the trains to the hotel, but once you learn the backstreets, you'll realize you're also a bit closer to the Tokyo National Museum and northern end of Ueno Park. In terms of the room specifically, it was small, but the bed was adequate with a really thick and warm comforter. The bathroom had a stunning view of the Tokyo Skytree, and the shower was powerful and hot, which felt good after a long day of sightseeing. One final note, as others have mentioned, skip the breakfast and eat somewhere else nearby. All in all, I'd stay here again.

Not bad at all”
Few minutes walk from tokyo metro and keisi ueno station. Few minutes walk from Ueno park and zoo. With lots of restaurant in the area. However the hotel breakfast lounge is in the reception area but they offer unlimited free coffee and juice and a welcome apple - tasty! The room has vault, tv, small ref, bathroom with hot water. Rooms are not that big but with just enough for the price. If you are here as traveler or tourist, this hotel is for as you do need a pricy one since you would be outside most of the time. Just be cautious if you have more than three big luggage bec of limited space. If you are Filipino, the hotel is just half the size of our usual 3-5 star hotel. But you are in Tokyo so if want a spacious one, you should be willing to spend more. Tried a hotel of the same size as Oakwood/ Joy Nostalj, Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza or Marco polo in Ortigas and it cost me almost 10k peso overnight!

Great location and value”
We stayed at the Ueno hotel for two nights on a Friday and Saturday. Located only a 5 minute walk from Ueno station JR line, this clean and simple hotel has a good sized room (by Japanese standards) free Wi-Fi, breakfast available, and exceptional staff who all speak English. Located on the yamanote train line, your location grants simple and easy access to all that Tokyo has to offer and the staff can help with maps and insights tourists can only dream of. Great stay highly recommended

Great little hotel”
Staff spoke very good English and were extremely helpful. Great location, close to: - JR train station and Yamanote line taking you to all of the important spots in Tokyo (make sure you get out of the Iriya exit and it's a less than 5 minute walk) - Close to nice little market area called Ameyoko - Close to lots of little restaurants - Close to museums and a zoo - Close to Keisei train station that has Narita airport bound trains Breakfast was small but fine for value. You get a choice of 2x sandwiches/onigiri and some fruit, but more importantly as much as coffee as you want - they also offer a little takeaway cup so you can take a coffee on the go. The rooms were very clean and nice. Standard Tokyo-size small, but that's to be expected. Overall, very nice hotel and would definitely stay there again.

Great little hotel in Tokyo!”
Our stay at Ueno hotel was great! We loved how close the hotel was to the train station, as well as numerous restaurants. It was always easy to get from our hotel to wherever we needed to go in Tokyo. My (nerdy) husband also loved how close it was to Akihibara (2 train stops or you could just walk it, which we did many times). The daily breakfast was always great. Each day you get a boiled egg, a kind of soup (like minestrone or cosomme), a salad, a choice of two rice balls or small sandwiches (or 1 of each!), a small pudding or custard, a cold drink (milk or juice), and a hot drink (tea or coffee). The staff was always very polite and friendly. Some had very good English and others not as great, but always enough to get by. The room was VERY small but we expected that coming in. And honestly, we didn't need much more. Overall, we really liked this hotel and would definitely stay there again!

Generally a great place to stay”
Value for Money: 1 star short of perfect because of the location. The size of the bed is close to a queen size bed which is not common in Tokyo which is a factor for the positive rating. Location: There are other hotels closer to the Ueno Station and that's the only reason why I gave 4 stars. If you don't mind walking, then the location of the hotel shouldn't be a problem. But if you are travelling with a lot of luggage and small kids that still need a stroller, then it might be a little challenging. Cleanliness: The hotel's common areas are clean and the rooms are clean and if I were just looking at the common areas, I'd give a 5 star rating. But our experience with the room cleaners were a bit odd. On one occasion, the cleaners didn't do their job right...like the small trash bin was left on top of the table where it should have been under the table, or sometimes the trash we left beside the trash bin were left behind. So that dragged down the score 1 star down to 4 stars. Staff: They were very helpful, they don't speak English fluently but I've managed to ask for information on where to find places and other hotel related requests. Facilities: The hotel got everything that I needed. A fairly large sized bed (close to a queen size), washing machines, vending machines, free 40mbps WIFI, free water, free coffee, and free tea.

Good Stay”
We spent 7 days and 6 nights here. I chose this hotel primarily because it is cheap and it offers queen size bed. From Airport to Ueno we utilized the Kesei line which took us exactly 41 minutes to Ueno. Navigating going to the hotel is a bit challenged since iriya exit is far, maybe if we are inside the Ueno JR station it will be easy to follow the signs. But if you are arriving via kesei line and will walk on the ground; it will be walk straight and look for asakusa exit. When you see Wendys turn left to that path until you reach Family Mart then cross the street and turn right. Then turn left on the next street. A few more blocks to walk then you’ll reach the hotel. I initially booked for the queen size bedroom for me and my husband, because I knew that my son will also fit in. But, the lady on the front desk said that I need to pay for an additional 2000 yen per night for my son. Since he is already 9 years old. They are very strict on the child policy. The room is small which is very common in Tokyo. They always clean the room, changing of linens is by request. But I think the room is very dusty because my son and husband will get an allergic rhinitis when we are inside the room (They are allergic to dust mites). Wifi is very poor that we are being disconnected always, so travelling to Japan with a sim card (unli data) or wifi pocket device is a must. The hotel is near to lawson by a 3 minute walk and 5 minute walk to family mart. So we always buy at family mart before heading back to the hotel from the train station. The drinking water is replenished everyday (inside the small fridge), and they also have free refill of water with ice, cold tea and hot beverages such as coffee and tea at the hotel lobby. Breakfast is 800 yen per head, but we chose to eat outside. Laundry bag is upon request and you have to go to 2F to get it. One good thing is they have plenty of electricity sockets where you can plug all your devices to charge. Overall it was a good hotel

Great small hotel near the Ueno JR station”
We needed a place to crash the night before taking the Shinkansen (Bullet Train) up to Nagano for a ski trip. We usually stay around busy Tokyo but this time just wanted a less crowded, more quiet place to park our bags, eat some good Japanese food and be close to the Bullet Train Station. The small Ueno hotel is around 5-mins walk from the Ueno JR station. The Bullet Train (Asama Shinkansen for Nagano) stops at Ueno after Tokyo so we boarded from here. Ueno station has a great underground mall attached to it with terrific Japanese food. It's perfect for a night stop and not as busy as Tokyo station - but still plenty to see and do. Hotel is modern, new, small and clean - a typical Japanese-style business hotel. No bathtub but shower stall is big, modern and new! Staff are friendly and speak English. Not much to eat or do around the hotel itself, but just walk into Ueno station (5-min) and you'll be satisfied plenty!

Great setups and excellent services”
Within the confine of limited space, as most hotels in Tokyo are tiny, Ueno Hotel's setups in the room stands out as the bathroom has natural light from a window and shower is separated by glass door, so there's no issue of steam setting off fire alarm in the room. The service is excellent. Prior to the travel when I contacted them re. sending/receiving packages, they were really helpful and kept our parcels and luggage safe when we were away from Tokyo.

Basic hotel that provides all your basis needs”
A typical Tokyo area hotel, ie. small floor area but that is what I was expecting. The room is clean and all that is needed for a good night sleep is there. Toilet and shower facility is good. I like especially the common dining area next to the reception counter which is also a good area to have your takeaways from convenient stores too. Freshly brewed coffee and tea available 24hours. There is a Family Mart just diagonally across from the hotel too.

Always a pleasant stay”
This is our second time staying in this hotel and we were again more than satisfied with our stay. As before, the staff were polite and helpful. Our room had complete amenities and was always clean throughout our stay. The airconditioning unit also served as our heater during the cold nights and it worked perfectly. Ueno Hotel is our home away from home. We will happily stay in this hotel again when we visit Tokyo.

Very good”
Had a great stay at Tokyo Ueno hotel. The hotel is a short walk from the Ueno JR station. First day took longer than the usual 8-10 mins, as we have big luggages to lug around. There's also free drinks and coffee at the pantry area near the reception and we will hang around the area with our food bought from the convenience store in the morning and at night. Room is considered spacious for twin beds configuration in Japan. We can still open the two big luggages in the room, even without joining the beds together. Thou walking space is limited near the table and fridge area. We saw next door double bed room is much smaller and no space for even one luggage. Do consider booking a twin bed room and join them together for bigger space. Do note that the housekeeping is only until 2pm. Those travellers leaving the room later will not have any housekeeping that day. But you can still request for clean towels at the counter. The receptionists there are quite helpful. The things at Ameyoko market is considered cheaper especially the drug stores. Did comparison between Shinjuku and Asakusa and is much cheaper at Ameyoko.

Comfortable, compact and convenient”
1. Location: Good neighborhood, near train station and has lots of good places to see nearby. Many food places and 24-hour convenience stores 2. Accommodation: friendly staff, free umbrella rental, clean linen, strong warm water, in-house vendos. Rooms are always clean, no noise from neighbors, equipped with all that you need. Space is a bit small but used well. Very efficient. Would definitely come back to this hotel for our next trip to Tokyo! 😊

Convenient location.”
This was our first visit to Japan. Hotel is about 5 minutes walk from the main exit of Ueno Station, shorter from Irya exit. Desk staff were helpful and spoke English. Room was tiny but super clean and comfortable. Breakfast was Japanese style with soup, congee, salad, hard-boiled egg, croissants, a slice of orange and a dessert. There was excellent coffee and other drinks, tea, juice etc. all for 800 Yen. The laundry area had 4 washers and driers. It was an easy walk to the Ueno Park with a superb zoo, museums, galleries, temples, monuments etc. We walked with suitcases to the Kaisei Station where we caught the express to Narita. About 1200 metres.

Outstanding customer service”
Due to an unfortunate medical event during our stay in Tokyo, we had to seek out a hospital with the assistance of the Ueno Hotel staff. I must commend them and thank them for all the assistance they gave us in phoning many different hospitals and eventually in finding an excellent local clinic. The Ueno Hotel is well situated at a reasonable price...for Tokyo.

My third time ”
I like this hotel in Tokyo. It's pretty basic and the rooms are small but it's good value and conveniently located close to ueno station. The walk from the station can feel a little bit far with luggage but it's really not too bad. Breakfast is good and it's nice to have access to the cofee maker. I will definitely stay here again

A simple no frills hotel”
We stayed 4 nights in this hotel. First 3 nights were in room with twin beds and final night in a room with queen bed. The 2nd room is really small, we do not have space to open up our 2 big luggages properly. Otherwise, the twin rooms were fine. The room and shower were comfortable. Free wifi was provided and the signal is strong. The hotel is quite near to the Iriya gate of Ueno station, but quite a walk from the Ueno metro station. So plan more time if you want to walk from the hotel to the Kiesei line to take the airport metro!

The hotel was in an excellent location - close to Ueno Metro station and the JR line as well as Ueno Park. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was spotlessly clean. It was a great base for exploring Tokyo. Fast internet too.

Still good again”
The location and proximity to Ueno Station is excellent. The staff are friendly with quite good English. The beds are very comfortable, And the rooms are well presented and clean, although showing some signs of wear and tear. The only negative thing I’ve noticed in the last year or so are the increasing number of very loud, often rude, Chinese guests in the lobby area, lifts and common areas. This is my 6th or 7th stay at Ueno Hotel.
