I wouldn't start anywhere else in Kyoto ”
Tomato has clean rooms, comfy beds, friendly peeps, and is close to the station. The other hostels in Kyoto have a lot of Ketchuping to do!

conveniently located with helpful staff”
We stayed at Tomato for three nights. The bedroom was basic. Futon a little thin but bedding and facilities are clean. Small common room and kitchen. Only problem was noise... they dont implement quiet hours and you could hear people blow drying their hair at midnigĥt. Had a group of Chinese tourist come in the second one point and two women were fighting on the second floor in the middle of the night and we could hear it on the first floor..... whatever is happening in the hallway all carried into the room too.

Exceptional”
We stayed for 2 nights. There is one number of the staff that is really nice mas helpful. There is a full equiped kitchen, a common area, washing machine for 100jpy, hot shower. The room was spacious with tv and aircon, the only bad thing was that it smell a bit weird but I guess it was because the windows were closed most of the time. Overall we had a great stay and recommend it for your stay in Kyoto. Location is within walking distance from Kyoto station where you can get buses and trains. It is also possible to store your bags before or after check out.

Localised, budget and value for money hostel”
This hostel is very cheap but nearby the Kyoto train and subway main station. The receptionist will not be in the front desk all the time. So must watch out the check-in & check-out time. But they're very friendly to help if they're capable to do so.

Hostel Style Living”
Hostel style of living, but I have stayed in better ones. Tomato was located slightly off from my prediction, and when you're dragging a 20kg luggage bag, the distance is slightly daunting, esp in winter. Front desk was kind enough to allow early check in, but there's no elevator to second floor. So it's a precarious lugging for me and a 20kg luggage bag up a flight of steep steps. (The steep steps were always daunting for me and my friend, so it requires some getting used to.) Room was clean, and we had to make our own bed and bedsheets. I had chosen shared bathroom so no face or bath towels were provided. Free Wi-Fi is available in room. Shared toilet and wash basin area was not provided with warm water, so be warned for this if you're coming in winter. But the shower room is completed with warm and cold water. Overall a pleasant stay, if you are coming in the warmer months.

Good hostel with low price”
We have a good stay at this hotel. We came early in the morning, but the reception not open until 9:00 AM. We got early check-in, so we can rest a while after long trip from Tokyo using Bus. This hostel is not to far from kyoto station, around 5-10 minutes walking, the staff is very nice and can speak english.

It was nice staying in this hostel. Very near to kyoto station and staff is very nice also. If you're a light sleeper, better bring or rent headset as you will hear when someone is walking or talking.

it's not that convenient to go for the kyoto station.i book a single room for myself,which with big wardrobe,a small tv ,big window(can't see any veiw) and bed stuff.it's in the second floor,and i get up early and get back late,have not met any issue in using the bathroom and toilet,no need to wait even a minute !not near any store though,you can use the fridge for food needs low temperature storage！

about 10 mins from JR Kyoto Station's Platfom on walk, not bad considring price. Friendly Staffs. just one shower room in each floor. aisle is little dark in night. caution.

Nice stay”
Tho I was only staying for 1 night, its a pleasant experience to be here. Its about 10 minutes walking from Kyoto station, (may be faster for others, its just that we walk slow). Very easy access to local public transportation. Staffs was nice and we got to store our luggage before check-in. Everything was clean. I really like the common room especially the kotatsu. There's a really good halal restaurant nearby, so its a convenient for muslim traveller.

This guest house is located near to Kyoto station & very easy to find. The hospitality is good & staffs are willing to help at any time. If wanna find thus hotel better use GPS rather than asking the information counter. Located very near to Kyoto Tower

Warm Hostel with clean shared toilet”
The staff is nice and willing to help. They speak good English. It is quite close to Kyoto station. However, when we are booking the hotel, I did not alert that there is no private shower and toilet. Please note when you are booking.

Surprisingly Nice”
The place is relatively far from popular tourist spots but just 15-20mins to Kyoto Station, so that makes up for it. The look of the place from outside won’t tell you much but you’d feel the relaxing vibe almost immediately once you get inside. The staff are so nice, & the walls in their hallway are decorated with informative posters/pictures of Kyoto’s sights & festivals. The room is quite big for a couple so that’s a plus. ‘Will definitely go back.

Very friendly, small but convenient hostel, possibility to store luggage before checkin”
Common space is quite small, Otherwise everything you need, small kitchen, showers, even a towel is included, located 15 min walking from kyoto train station. Mattresses are quite thin, which I like, but if you prefer a big soft mattress, this is not for you.

Exceptional”
Very cheap and quite near to Kyoto station (15 minutes walk). Facilities were pretty complete. Sadly the laundry doesn't have dryer but the staff nicely showed me a coin laundry not too far away. Close to mini market and others. Very recommended.

Lovely short stay”
We chose this place for our Osaka-Narra-Kyoto-Nagoya-Tokyo trip. It is very accessible - walking distance from Kyoto terminal. Staff is lovely. Room - clean and spacious. Facilities are well maintained. I highly recommend this place.

Best value for money in Japan”
I was so impressed with this hostel. Though it is incredibly cheap, it is still very clean and comfortable. All the staff are very friendly and welcoming. For my opinion, this place is best value for money in Japan. Thank you for the owner who is the Buddhist monk in Nara.
