Exceptional”
I’ve stayed here twice and will keep coming back. Everything is so nice perfect location with beautiful forest views from your hot spring bath in your room. The river is noisy but if you need a place to switch off in nature it’s brilliant for this. Good location for transport links to fuji

Excellent”
You need to check this place out! It's located steps away from the bus stop (Take the bus here, walking from the closest metro station is around 15 mins, but if you have a lot of baggage, it's worth the couple extra bucks). We got the room with the open air bath, and it was perfect. It was a tad bit cold showering outside before/after the hot spring bath but having the open air bath was worth it because of the river view and it was so soothing and peaceful. You had to set up your own bedding but they had instructions and it was super easy. The dinner was also delicious, I highly recommend getting it. Overall, it was a very satisfying and great experience.

Experienced an unhappy booking!”
When I did the booking via Agoda website two months before the stay, the summary sheet did not capture the number of my three kids. I am in doubt. That’s why I re-do the booking again, the result is the same. As regards, I paid without the number of kids as mentioned in the application stage. In order to ensure my input is correct, I clarified again with Agoda two weeks prior to my booking with positive result. However, when I do the check-in, they said that there is booking record for two adults only. The result is that I have to pay additional charges for my three kids for stay overnight and breakfast/dinner. I am really upset about such bad experience. Besides, when I checked again the updated room rate in the website during the check-in, it is much lower than what I paid!

Relax in traditional setting”
While not too close to other activities, it offers stunning traditional Japanese rooms overlooking a fast running stream. It has public onset, private Ibsen bookable (only the midnight or later slots were available when we checked in -so get in early, we weren’t advised to when we dropped off our luggage early in the day), but our room also had its own open-air hot springs fed bath over looking the ravine below. The set dinner and breakfast were both magnificent traditional meals.

Traditional Japanese hotel”
We walked from Hakone-yumoto to Ichinoyu Honkan Hotel. It seemed to be long distance (it would be due to long journey, directly from Narita Airport and with heavy luggage) but actual fact, it only took about 15mins. The hotel staff told us the nearest station ie tounosawa station which is only 5 mins from the hotel but when we tried it out, we ended up entering into a deserted, vacant hotel and seemed very scary. If you were there, dun try, just paid the 100 yen and took the bus to Hakone-yumoto. We had breakfast n dinner which were excellent and value for money

Cultural experience in this stay”
We relly enjoyed our 2 nights stay at Tounosawa Ichinoyu Honkan Hotel. It's a hotel full of sense of japanese culture and history. It's a bit far from the train station unless reach there by a bus. The breakfast is very delicious for both the 2 mornings..If ryokan is the type of room you are looking for, you will enjoy this hotel as much as we did.

Cosy and relaxation”
We were impressed to see our names placed in front of the hotel, old fashioned style. My friends and I enjoyed every moment spent at Ichinoyu Honkan. Breakfast and dinner were superb. However,I would not recommend to travel to hotel by train, as it would be quite adventurous to drag heavy suitcase down hill, in the dark. It is easier to access by bus. As there is bus stop close to hotel.

Relax and fun!”
The hotel staff is friendly and communicated in English. The most relaxing was the hot spring. Ichinoyu Honkan provides private room for hot spring. We had our privacy which is great! Hotel provides some board games, cards for travellers to have fun with the family members which is very sweet move!

Relax and friendly hotel”
We reach Tounosawa Ichinoyu Honkan Hotel around 9pm. at night without our dinner. There is no dinner serve after 9pm. Very lucky they do sell instant noodle. That is our dinner. The room was very big with traditional Japanese style fully equipped except bathroom. We tried our first time Japanese private spa bath here. Good experience. Make sure have to try, relax and enjoy.

Good experience in Japanese life style”
This hotel is not right in the middle of Hakone-Yumoto, but is very easy to access through buses. Visitor can take bus at bus stop 'T' or 'H' to get to bus stop close to hotel. Another option is to take shutter bus (at bus stop 'C'), which will stop right infront of hotel. You can start your jurney after drop the luggage and walk to Tonosawa train station, get the map from hotel staff, this station is just 5 minutes walkfrom hotel. This hotel with Japanese old style living with tatami, no special bedroom, you need to lay your own bed. Room with private hot spring is excellent, you can enjoy the hot spring anytime you like, good experience. Must try the dinner at the hotel, is a bit costly, but very good food.

Lovely Old Ryokan experience”
We stayed two nights at the Ichinoyu Honkan Hotel. We enjoyed staying at this ryokan as it has some history being a 380 year old building. The hotel is a little shabby, but we didn't mind; it adds to the character. It is located in Tonosawa which is one stop away from Hokone Yumoto station. You can reach the hotel by bus (easier if you have luggage!) or by cable car (which involves walking down a hill to get to the hotel). You could also walk if you were inclined to. The hotel has a privite onsen which you can book; fun if you want to try the onsen experience with a partner. Otherwise, you have the male/female segregated onsens. The onsens at the hotel are okay, not anything too special, but a nice experience. We had breakfast 2 mornings; the first was a little tough even though we aren't hard to please; natto (fermented soy beans) and fried fish for breakfast is not easy to stomach, but we did eat enough rice to be full enough. Second morning was better with fried salmon. A good location for people that want to be out of the main onsen part of hakone. It's quiet; the hotel is on a stream with waterfalls which is very loud, but it's a calming noise. All in all, while on the pricey side, it's a nice experience at an old ryokan.

Something new, energized”
One of the best hotel stay I've ever experienced. The ryokan staff speaks fluent English, and still puts on a warm smile even when we bombarded her with questions- any restaurants around, how long will it takes to get to Owakudani, etc. The room is awesome, maybe a little bit old, but it spice up the traditional feel. The highlight will be the public onsen, even though it's indoor, you still get to see the nice view outside. They have a bar open until midnight and their pretty bartender is very friendly. The breakfast was awesome, fresh fish, delicious miso soup, tried natto there for the very first time. Though it might be a little bit far away from the train station, it's still easily accessible- you can choose to use the bus that can take you to the Ohiradai station; or you can use the Tounosawa station, you just need to walk all the way down from the station, and up to the station (recommended for those who travel light). If you use the later route, you will pass by a homy Taiyaki store; the owner is a very friendly old man, and he is very very generous with the fillings that he put into the Taiyaki, he doesn't speaks English, but he is very sincere and accommodating.

Traditional ryokan”
The ryokan is right next to a river which I liked. The breakfast room where they serve you a very traditional japanese breakfast is at the top of the building at tree-level. Upon arrival your name is written outside on a black board which looks great on a picture :) The hotel is walking distance, about 10/15min, from Hakone village and station (although probably not with a heavy luggage load) and right next to a busstop = Kami-Tounosawa. Try to get a hold of an English tourist map of Hakone. There's plenty of stuff to do and lots of local transport (busses, trains, cablecars) to get around. The Hakone pass is a must.

A nice, quiet and accessible Japanese style hotel”
The room we were staying is called "乙女". the window view is the river, which is very nice. you can hear clearly the sound of the river. the room is spacious as compared to the hotel that we stayed in Tokyo. it's in japanese style. our frineds stayed in a room called something like "白雪", which the decoration is much more beautiful and more spacious. but the window view is not as good as "乙女" room. the hotel is only one bus stop from the Hakone Yumoto train station and it's only a 2-minute walk from the bs stop. the breakfast is really great. it's shared bathroom. you can book a timeslot for your room.

Amazing onsen spot in Hakone”
This onsen ryokan is the highlight of our entire trip in Japan. Loved every minute spent in this place. + Location is within walking distance from Tonosawa station, which is 1 train stop from Hakone-yumoto. However you’ll have to carry luggage down a few staircases. Another way to reach this ryokan is by taking bus from either Hakone-yumoto or Odawara; the nearest bus stop is about 200m away. + There is also another bus stop about 50m from the ryokan that will take you to Moto-hakone (Lake Ashi and Hakone Shrine). + The staff is incredibly welcoming, especially those in the restaurant. + The room is spacious enough and comfy. + Price point is really competitive compared to similar ryokans in the area. I think they offer great value for money. - We rented a room with private bath and even though we were very happy overall, we wished the bath was a bit bigger. It was barely enough for 2 persons (and both of us are small size). - The ryokan is sort of on a mountain so no shop/restaurant is within walking distance. But this is very minor as the ryokan has almost everything, and you can enjoy the tranquility of the surroundings.

Great location”
We stayed at the place for 1 nite. Location is great. We took bus no. 3 from Hakone Yumoto Station. Since we had the 3 days pass, we didn't have to pay. We got off at the 3rd stop Kami-Tonosawa. The hotel is right there. Our room had an open air bath. It was great. Room was spacious and clean. We had the river view. Dinner was okay. We made a good choice to pay extra for the sashimi boat which was good. Service at front desk could be better. The receptionist was a bit cool. But the lady who served our check out was very polite and warm. Overall it was a pleasant stay.

Pleasant Stay”
The hotel is only 3 stops away from Hakone Yumoto. It was easy to locate when we alight from the Tozan Bus Stop. The staff are warm and well versed in English. We enjoyed the onsen, both the public and private. There is a feet massager at the larger public onsen. The room in traditional ryokan style was comfortable and has a splendid view of a river. And the breakfast was good and fulfilling!

Hotspring is the best”
We stayed one night in this traditional Japanese hotel. Everything is so different from the modern days but we love it. The hotspring is the best thing in such cold weather (0 degree). Both private and public bath are amazing (they are both indoors). If you are guest, even after you check out, you still have free access to the hotspring during that day. This hotel chain is quite big, they have other few different locations in Hakone. if you want to try other hotsprings, you can get the hotel to organize for you (They are all free). Because it is too cold, we would rather stay where we were. The only downside of the room is NO HOT WATER !!! You pretty much need to use freezing water to wash your face, brush your teeth, it is quite terrible :( Another thing to mention is, no bathroom in the room, you need to go to the public one on your floor. They served breakfast in the morning, food is good but quite traditional, I am not too used to it.
