Really enjoyed my stay at Funky Box”

After feeling so welcomed, I ended up staying 3 nights instead of 1 at Funky Box hostel. The owners really care about this place and are very warm and caring people. Having only taken over the business over a month ago, there are still some improvements that need to be made but they are working very hard to get things done. They make the common area/bar a fun and enjoyable time even on quiet nights. The only (small) downside is the dorm needs a cleaning but they just hired more staff so I'm sure that will be dealt with soon. But for the price and hospitality, this was not even a concern. Thank you God and Eve!

Great place to stay”

Great great place to stay. even though its hard to take a nap during the noon cuz no AC. so the room is warm but consider the price you paid for a clean bed and very good staff and great but cheap burger from the funky box bar next door. its totally worth it. and there is a shade place near the river, you can take a nap there during the noon if you want. definitely gonna stay again.

Best coming home feeling in Southeast Asia”

I was sick, when I arrived and May, the owner, cared for me like a good friend. Very colourful room, made with love and smartness. I will ever come back. The whole place including bar, you should go when you need a place where you just can feel good and need a home far away from home. On the next day I even could stay in my bed until I felt better - no checkout time due to my weakness. Thank you, May and your sister.

Awesome stay in the funky box hostel!!!”

We had a awesome night in the funky box Hostel. If you search for a place where you will feel more than welcome, go there. The owners are so nice and friendly. I travel since 8 month's and I never had a warming welcome like here. The Hostel-Bar is awesome. You can play your own music and the night we were there we celebrate Christmas, it was the 25th of June:). So it's a very funny place and for sure the best place to go in Chiang Khong!!!

Hostel as hostel”

It is only one big box room with 16 beds and 3 washrooms. Nothing more. It also have boiler with free instant coffee. But it dos not have any chairs or other place for sit and talk with friends. Only beds. Also at evening you will be in dim light because room does not have enough lamps. Near to hostel located karaoke bar. And i was unlike before at mine evening it works until deep night. When i stay at hostel bicycle museum was closed:(

Cheap option in Chiang Khong”

When I booked, I thought the hostel was in Chiang Rai, instead of Chiang Khong... But it's my fault for not checking the map and the address. But as I was planning on going there the next day, it wasn't a problem. The owner is a very nice person. The beds are comfy, there's three toilets/showers for the dorm. Everything was very clean. I didn't go to the bar but it looked like a nice little place. So definitely a good cheap option if you're on your way to cross the Lao border!

While I was there, the owner was out of town so both the bar and museum were closed which was a huge bummer since based on all of the other reviews those are the things that make this place so amazing! The room itself was very clean and comfortable with lots of fans.

This hostel is great. It's super cheap and very clean. It's just a short walk to town where there are lots of restaurants and a few bars. The owners are excellent!

What a find! Not just a ludicrously cheap price but a place run by someone (owner Alan from UK) who has done the whole traveller thing himself and now runs the place from that perspective!

Perfect budget hostel, friendly staff and good bar”

We arrived from Chiang Rai to Chiang Khong to stay 1-2 nights before we go to Laos. Today is our fifth night! The place is very good to have some rest and relax. The owners (Alan and his wife)are wonderful, it was so nice to spend some time with them in their bar! Thanks a lot!

Fantastic ”

Stayed here about 5 weeks ago for 1 night(wish I had stayed longer now!) before heading over into Laos. The accommodation was great. The dorm was clean, the bed was one of the most comfy I stayed in for weeks which I was not expecting. This place also has a bar. The owner Alan, was a pleasure to meet and was really interested in getting to know his guests. I had such a great night chatting away with him and some other travellers. The night I stayed we had a visit from a VIP is all I will say. I've never laughed so much in my life. If I'm travelling in the area again I will make sure to call by for more than 1 night next time. Great digs, great host, great place. Please do stay here. Cheers Alan for some happy memories.

I only stayed here for one night but it was extremely clean and comfortable not to mention how amazing Allan, Mae and Mario are (they are the family who run the hostel)!!!! They were able to help with all my queries be it about how to cross the border or where was good to eat (plus Mario was brilliant company to have dinner with :) ). I would recommend this hostel 100% to any traveler!!!!

c'est pas évident de trouver l'endroit même les habitants de la rue ne savent pas ou ce trouve l'hôtel. c'est une grosse boite avec 16 lits et 3 toilettes. avec un numéro de téléphone collé sur la porte d'entrée. à côté d'un bar très bruyant.pas de front desk ça fait dur.

Geweldige eigenaar!”

Het hotel wordt niet op de goede plek weergegeven bij agoda! Het is wel in de staat Chaing Rai, maar het is zo'n 2 a 3 uur rijden van chaing rai. Ik had dat te laat gerealiseerd, bij agoda kan dat niet meer terug gedraaid worden?! Direct met Alan gebeld, was geen probleem als ik een paar dagen later kwam, ik moest toch die kant op. Mijn boeking werd verschoven. In de bar altijd een gezellige sfeer. Alan en zijn vrouw zijn super vriendelijk en behulpzaam. Hij had ons meegenomen naar een hilltribe oud en nieuw feest, we waren de enige toeristen! De slaapzaal was heel netjes en schoon en ook de badkamers! En dat voor bijna geen geld. In de bar werden ook steeds shots geserveerd, gratis!
