Determine your eligibility for travel

To determine your eligibility for travel, please refer to the following conditions and requirements for Ecuador:

All passengers entering the country over 3 years of age must present:

– a COVID-19 vaccination card with QR code or a COVID-19 vaccination certificate showing the traveler received a complete series of the COVID-19 vaccine at least 14 days prior to entering Ecuador, or

– proof of a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test taken no more than 72 hours prior to boarding the flight to Ecuador, and

– a declaration of traveler health (the declaration is available on the Ministry of Public Health website https://www.salud.gob.ec/).

Travelers entering Ecuador who have been diagnosed as COVID-19 positive, and after one month continue to obtain a result from an RT-PCR test, may present a medical certificate from their country of origin attesting to their recovery, absence of symptoms and that they are no longer contagious.

As long as the traveler does not present symptoms of COVID-19, they do not need to perform mandatory preventive quarantine, and they may freely move within the continental territory of Ecuador (Special rules apply to the Galapagos Islands; see below https://ec.usembassy.gov/covid-19-information-ecu-2/)

Quarantine is required for some travelers.

Travelers who show symptoms of COVID-19 upon arrival may be required to quarantine and await test results.

All passengers entering the country over 3 years of age must present a vaccination certificate with its QR code, or a valid vaccination card (two doses and at least 14 days validity), or a negative RT-PCR test performed up to 72 hours prior to departure.

Domestic travel

The general nationwide biosecurity measures include mandatory COVID-19 vaccination for Ecuadorean nationals and foreign residents.

The use of masks is no longer mandatory in public spaces (both indoors and out). However, private establishments may impose their own biosecurity rules and request the use of masks. We recommend you carry a mask together with your proof of vaccination.

All people over 12 (including foreign tourists) must present their COVID-19 vaccination certificate (showing 2 complete doses) to enter establishments providing non-essential services (for example, but not limited to, shops, supermarkets, restaurants, transport, etc). This rule has also been enforced at airports. This will not apply to public sector institutions or essential services such as health and education. COVID-19 vaccination certificates are also mandatory for all passengers over 5 years old for all inter-district, interstate, urban and tourist buses.
