“Songkran” or Thai New Years is the time you spend with family, so my parents and I dropped everything and headed to the most chill beach, just a few hours away from exciting Bangkok. This is Thailand’s favourite retreat city and it will leave you coming back for more.
We drove from Bangkok to Cha-am (only about a 2-hour drive) and checked in at the bougie Baba Beach Club in Cha-am. The quiet atmosphere, and private beach felt like a safe haven. By 3 pm, we had a few cakes and coffees at their cute “Baan Chok” cafe. Although the Thai tea was not so sweet, I adored the quaint little garden with chill live music, and the peaceful beachfront view.
We then walked around the beachfront and talked about life, growing up and all the things we’re grateful for this Thai New Year.
We wanted to take our retreat seriously so we took an hour drive out for a nature escape to “Kang Krachaan.” “Kang” in Thai means reservoir. We hired out a boat out around the reservoir and hoped for a quiet boat ride. Instead, we were surprised by a curious (and hungry) monkey.
If you have time to spare, this place is a must-visit! And if you want to hang around, you can also stay at the Kaengkrachan Boathouse Paradise Resort for the full immersive yet luxury comfort experience.
I hopped out of bed at 5am. With the hopes of obtaining my first ever “birdie,” we drove to Palm Hills Golf Resort and played a good old game of golf. The wish, unfortunately, did not come true but I loved spending time with family either way.
By 9.30 am, we finished our game and headed back to the hotel. By the afternoon, I was suffering from severe shoulder pains from overextending my swing, so I popped by for a massage at The BARAI Spa at Hyatt Regency Hua Hin. The minute I walked into the space, I was at peace with myself and the minute I walked out of the spa, I was completely transformed. (#ChakrasAligned)
The next morning, we checked out and drove back home. We were fully rested and ready to take on the new year.
