Paradise on Earth!”
This hotel is exceptional. The staff are so professional and friendly. The food is amazing and the location is just perfect, only a few steps from the beach where we were surfing. The only facility we were not blown away by is the spa, we felt that in comparison to the rest of the hotel it was not up to standard. The masseuse also spoke very little English which made it difficult to explain our specific needs. Having said that, the massage itself was very good and our session there did not dampen our fantastic experience at this hotel.
blissful Bali ”
Impeccable service - they anticipate your every need, taxis, late check out, beach towels, poolside drinks - I could go on - the staff are amazing and attention to detail in the hotel is so impressive. The food choices are endlessly varied and the restaurants beautiful, as are the rooms. In fact everything is a reminder of what is beautiful about Bali and the Balinese aesthetic
Wonderful hotel located at a not so ideal place”
The facilities of the hotel were wonderful, and the staff were attentive and professional. The room was big, clean, and private. The only small gripe is that the location is not near much, as the stretch of beach Tugu is near is mainly for surfing and it shows in the shops near the hotel. Dining options are available nearby, but unless you're shopping for surfing gear, you'll need to travel about 1 hour out to Ubud or Seminyak for other items.
Tired and so overrated”
I stayed at the hotel after seeing all the past accolades it received from the press. This hotel is long past its expiry. As mentioned by other reviewers noise from Old Man and the clubs next door can be heard throughout the night. The rooms are dated, even accounting for the fact that it is supposed to be filled with antiques. But other than the reconstructed Chinese temple the other antiques were not as exceptional as claimed. The biggest issue though by far is how amateur and poorly trained the staff is. Orders were mistaken, service levels absurdedly low due to carelessness and lack of understanding of the client care required for a top hotel. Indeed the staff are quite cheerful and nice, but just poorly trained. I attribute this to the manager, who is nice and puts in classy touches such as breakfast anywhere/anytime in the hotel, etc. but fails to do the most basic things such as making sure service is efficient and needs of clients are met. No service at the pool.
Art, Soul & Romance of Indonesia”
Tugu Hotel once again deliver their promise: Art, Soul & Romance of Indonesia. Authentic. Eclectic. You can even say eccentric in the most heartwarming way. Definitely offer different experience compared to franchised hotels.
Hotel Tugu - Excellent ”
We have travelled to Bali in excess of 10 x..and this was our second stay at Tugu. Alas, Canggu has grown beyond a sleepy surf spot. Hotel Tugu still remains one of the best ‘rustic and historical’ venues, with highly efficient and friendly staff., and facilities that are unrivaled across Asia. Though, the surrounding location no longer provides a laid back getaway. The adjacent monstrousity Aston hotel , is an eye sore, with multiple bar venues pumping out techno music well into the night. It now seems Tugu feels lost in a sea of rampant commercialization .
great place in Canggu”
Great energy and lots of relaxing aspects of our two day stay... loved the metal tub, hot water for days, high water pressure, peaceful atmosphere, unique rooms... has a lot of the things I love most about Bali. Highly recommended stay.
Lovely place, lovely people, good food ”
Very antique, Balinese design, the resort was quiet, the rooms were spacious and thoughtfully designed. We loved our stay there with an 18 month old... the people were really friendly and loved playing with our little one. Would definitely go back.
Great hotel at a poor beach”
Tugu Bali is a real treat, though a bit overpriced. The food is lovely, though not as good as Bambu or Merah Putih in Seminyak), the pool is refreshing, the open space of the lounge/restaurant is special and authentic. Service is personal and impeccable. However, Canggu is not a place for beach lovers (which we fortunately are not),but seems to be great for surfers. Only negative point was the absence of the complimentary transport at the airport. We would come back.
Old School Cool”
I booked a surprise birthday present for my girl and we love this place. Old style charm and serene setting adds to this romantic getaway. Food is amazing and you are left in peace to your own devices. Try the massage too. Incredibly soothing. Thanks.
Beautiful boutique hotel in Canggu”
A great option if you are looking for something original, different from your standard luxury hotel but still very comfortable and with truly excellent service. As advertised the hotel itself is like a museum containing balinese and javanese artefacts; this makes a pleasant and interesting visit in itself, for which the hotel staff can guide you through. The ambience created by the tasteful decoration and the effort to hide everything modern is very relaxing. The suite we had was very large and well decorated, with a massive bath, daybed, separate shower room, etc. The hotel has got a patch of private beach outside, which is well tended and pleasant enough, however the beach is a bit narrow and there are a few big rocks sticking out of the water, probably not really kids-friendly. Another downside maybe is the location in Canggu; nothing is at walking distance, wherever you go you will need to use a taxi (or a motorbike). The hotel can arrange a free drop-off in Seminyak on request, when their car is available. I found the hotel staff remarkably friendly and helpful, which is not rare in Bali, but this place stands out in my opinion. Overall, a great place for a romantic weekend with a cultural twist.
Everything we expected”
The Tugu Bali hotel met all of our expectations. It's a small boutique resort with traditional Balinese rooms and villas. Perfect for someone who’s looking for an authentic Balinese living experience, probably not so if you prefer sleek contemporary hotel. The hotel restaurant provides excellent food with beautiful views. The hotel service, especially the concierge service, is very professional and sincere.
Amazing hotel / museum with excellent rooms”
We stayed in the tugu for 3 fantastic days. This hotel has everything. Good food, atmosphere, private pool at the room, small private beach and a beautiful collection of artifacts. Friendly and service minded staff. You can book any room or special location for private dinner. Plusses only. Wonderful stay.
Loved our time at Hotel Tugu”
Beautiful hotel. Felt relaxed from the moment we walked in. Traditional Balinese style took us to another world. Quiet and had private use of pool each time we swam as there was no one around. Put in ear plugs to sleep and it worked a treat to block the noise. Make sure you visit the Japanese restaurant. Power bowls the best we’ve ever tasted. Would come again for sure!
Sweet like home”
This hotel is perfect for family trip. I went to Bali with my parents, have stayed here for 8 days. Perfect experience! All staff here are like family, massage is unforgettable, no end-time for breakfast (just like home), and really nice view of the beach and sea from the roof dining tables. There is also a Japanese restaurant in the hotel, which is really good too. Tea time is from 4:30 to 6:30, different cake platters everyday. At the day checking-out, if the room is available, they will let you stay till leaving, no additional charge. The gallery is good for grabbing some gifts for friends. All in one, this is the most satisfying hotel experience ever.
Pros: Beautiful suite, the most special bathroom. Looking at the Koi fish while taking a shower. Very friendly staff. Amazing breakfast. Great location next to the surf breaks and nightlife. Cons: bed mattress was a little too firm for our taste but wasn't a deal breaker at all since everything else was amazing. Oh and the hotel is like a museum which made it even more interesting.
Authentic Indonesian Experience”
An amazing tranquil sanctuary just off the increasingly busy Canggu strip. Really unique to be able to seek out out a quiet corner of this amazing hotel and grounds and be served a meal by the Tugu staff. The rooftop at sunset is the best location in Canggu for drinks followed by seriously good Japanese food. The “anytime anywhere” promise of an all day breakfast is a real treat. 5 stars with a difference!!
Unique artistic surroundings with impeccable customer service”
This hotel is nestled in one of the more popular areas of Canggu very near the beach. Decorated with museum quality artworks and artifacts of various origins and centuries, the Tugu Bali Hotel will amaze and inspire you during your stay. The staff are exceptionally helpful and are willing to meet all your needs. The rooms are impeccably clean and tended to several times a day. The restaurant provides a varied and delicious menu of local and foreign dishes. Travellers with allergies or limited diets can make requests for substitutions without hassle or fuss. This was my favourite hotel in Indonesia. Ask for a tour by the Assistant Manager, Ari, who had worked at the hotel for about 20 years. The stories and knowledge he shares about the privately collected items on the property will surprise you. Jenny, the Manager, is approachable and very friendly as well. Be sure to book one of the suites with your own private pool. This hotel is one of a kind and made me feel like a queen!!
Lovely suite and lovely personnel. Our welcome and early-morning (5AM) departure were wonderful! They even had breakfast and coffee waiting for us to take with us! My only complaint is that we were kept awake both nights by music from one of the bars across the street. I know the hotel can't do anything about this, but it does affect the quality of your stay if your accommodation faces the beach. Other than that, wonderful!!
Old World Charm”
This was my first time to Canggu. Tugu Hotel was beautiful old world with large rooms that over looked the ocean. There is a limited amount of rooms and the staff are fantastic. The only down side is that it is close to a few night clubs and can be very noisy 1-2 nights per week.
