    Don't stay there. ”

The hotel is set in an old hutong. The problem with hutong hotel is that they seem charming, but are often tourist traps. The hutongs' plumbing and heating are notoriously archaic, and this hotel certainly suffers from that problem. Some of the rooms in this hotel has no heating during winter (at least the heater was not on when I stayed there) and they face a major ring road. It was extremely noise and cold when I stay there - I couldn't sleep at all even though I'm a very deep sleeper. I complained to the hotel the next morning and they changed a room for me. Generally, not a pleasant experience staying in this hotel.

    Better than other reviews suggest”

Good design And well maintained. Beautiful wooden bathtub. Quiet but interesting neighborhood.

Good. First room I was shown didn't have a bath tub which I had requested. Hiowever changed with no problems. Hotel is very close to subway station (lama temple exit A). Rooms on second floor were airy and spacious. Bed and seating a little firm but you get used to it.

Not Impressed and Will not be Back”

Near to MRT, Near a nice hutong area, plenty of nice restaurants/bar around.

This hotel is overpriced and very mediocre. The room I stayed in faced the main road and it was noisy all day and all night long. The staff were a bunch of young people who were more interested in their computers than attending to you. You have to carry your heavy luggage up and down the stairs. Wifi in the room did not work, and nobody cared although they kept telling you they would look into it. The breakfast was lousy, consisting of only some bread and very 'plastic' looking sausages and hams. I did not take them at all. Do not take the water provided in the room they would charge you for it. I did not take their water bottles and they did not replace them, yet they charged me based on the number of nights I was there, it was ridiculous.

    Historical Hutong style hotel,”

    style, price, location

This hotel was a bargain being located in the hutong area 100m from metro station and on airport bus route- ideal for travelers. However organisation and staff service was dreadful. On arrival, despite an online booking and payment I was first told there were no rooms free and I'd have to leave- without refunding me. However I had no other hotel to go to as all booked, so I waited until a room was cancelled and thankfully I could stay as the hotel was veru picturesque in traditional hutong style,. Next problem was that their english was poor and they told me the wrong room number so having unpacked and gone out, I returned to find my room occupied bu others and all my belongings left unguarded and accessible to anybody. I moved to another room, assured they would be tighter on security but I was uncomfortable. The deal includes a 'breakfast buffet' which they serve 8-10am. However I stayed two nights and both days before 9am they had run out of everything- only a banana left! The other guests complained but the staff said they didn't have enough for everybody but this clearly happens regularly and if you don't eat at 8am you will be eating very little breakfast afterwards. Great hotel with beautiful interior design but dreadful service and customer care.

    Disappointing”

    Location

Having previously stayed at this hotel I had high expectations but 18 months have had there impact on the maintenance of this hotel. Our bathroom was extremely smelly due to the drainage system and was unbearable until we used all the towels to block the drain after showering.( This was an outside room). However the other room was much nicer although the toilet became blocked towards the end of our stay - all of 2 nights.

Cleanliness, Friendly Staff and has the best location

The stay was really great since the staff was very accommodating. The location of the hotel was really an advantage since it was just around 100meters away from the subway station line 2. This made going around Beijing very easy.

Twin Deluxe Room is much nicer”

Location - Subway Lines 2 and 5 exits are within walking distance. Near to great dining outlets. Quaint to explore hutong although those hutongs in other parts of Hou Hai are in much better state.

For my 2nd check-in, the hotel assigned the Room Type (Deluxe Twin) that I had paid for. This was a much nicer room - even had a Jacuzzi in bathroom. Hotel décor is in dramatic red and gold. I reckon that for the price of a Deluxe Twin, the hotel could have provided coffee sticks and Chinese tea bags as a courtesy. That would have added a nice touch to the stay. Pretty churlish of the owner NOT to add such touches. Also, I didn't like the step down from bathroom - quite dangerous with wet feet and the high step in glossy black tiles. Hotel guests should take care.

Helpful staff if you speak Mandarin”

Location, helpful staff. Lines 2 and 5 stations are about 250m walk away. Great restaurants within 300m radius. Walkable to Ghost Street for fantastic dining options.

Be sure that Hotel assigns you the room type that you paid for. I made two bookings for different dates for a Twin Deluxe Room. For my first check-in, they assigned to me a much cheaper room type - no wonder, the room was tacky. There was no credenza near an electrical point and so I had to boil water by putting the kettle on the floor. Likewise when I needed to charge my camera battery, etc. The stools' cushions were tied with raffia strings to the stools - I suggested to the hotel owner that he should use Velcro to minimize tackiness. One of the female staff at Reception was most kind. She even lent me her public transport card which I topped-up for use on public bus in order to enjoy the 60% discount for longer bus journeys to Beijing countryside.

Comfortable beds but no real windows”

Good location near Yonghegong subway; comfortable beds; wifi speed much improved

I stayed here again for its handy location, and am pleased to say that the wifi speeds are much improved since March 2013. The rooms can be a bit noisy in the morning, as cleaning staff get to work. No window or view - at best a window onto the inner covered courtyard/stairwell which is noisy/clattery. But the rooms are very clean, good quality bedlinen, good shower etc.

    close to subway, attentive staff

the hotel is very close to the subway and the lama temple. Some staff speak english very well which helps and the hutong feel of the hotel is really cool. We stayed 5 nights and apart from the extremely slow internet connection had no issues.

    No frills budget accomodation”

Nice decor, close to subway, restaurants nearby

Unfriendly receptionists who barely acknowledge guests. Was given a basement room for 4 nights. Room was on the small side, but for the price, no complains. The room was quite clean but carried a musky, dated smell in the air. Bathroom was basic and had good heating. Noisy at night as other hotel guests or hotel staff were sitting at the lobby area chatting and smoking. Behind the hotel there is a stretch of hipster cafes and bars that not many know about, worth checking out.

This hotel is near from the subway exit and inside the 2nd circle ring in Beijing. I stayed basement (1st) floor and there was no window in the room since it was basement. Wi-fi is okay when I stayed in this place and there are some places to eat local and western foods around the hotel. Have a nice trip!

PLEASANT STAY IN A VERY WELL DESIGNED HOTEL”

BEAUTIFUL HOTEL IN A GREAT LOCATION AND NEAR TO PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

I used the public transportation to arrive to the hotel faster than by taxi or car. The first impression was the beautiful wall buildings surrounding the area. The hotel outside showed beautiful red color doors the same than inside. The decoration was amazing with simplicity and style. The room had all what I needed it without breaking the atmosphere. Great place to stay.

Ideal Location and beautiful hotel design”

Right next to fantastic Cafe/Bar street, right next to Metro, Great vibe

We'd definitely recommend this hotel for value, design and location. The cheapest standard room was too tiny for us (not even a desk in the room) so we upgraded to a larger room for 100rmb more. The Golden Tripod restaurant (huge place with many lanterns) across the street was excellent for late night food (open 24h). VA bar has great live music and no smoking inside, also check out all the great little cafes on the bar street!

Well designed and comfortable boutique hotel”

Nice olden design with red lantern theme, helpful staff, very near to subway

We arrived in the middle of the night around twelve midnight. As we were two travelers, we had requested for twin beds. My sister and I were assigned a room with a single queen-sized bed. Upon returning to the front counter, we were informed that there were only two rooms with twin beds and that they were booked for a longer period than we would be staying. Finally we were assigned a larger room with a larger king bed which did not resolve the problem but there was nothing we could have done. Luckily we were family and could share the bed.
