Our perfect retreat!”
Turtle Bay Hotel was an absolutely stunning place. We were greeted by staff with a flower necklace and a drink whilst we checked in, then taken to our beautiful room with a view straight out over the ocean framed by palm trees swaying in the breeze. We fell in love instantly, and the rest of stay just made the experience better and better! The staff were immensely helpful and friendly, and we had a good natter. The food was brilliant, with a huge and tasty breakfast and lots of options (try the Sri Lankan curry at least once!). But most of all it was the location. Lying out under the palm trees, listening to the waves breaking on the shore, taking a dip in the pool whilst staring out over the sunset, taking a sunset walk on a deserted beach... it was heaven on earth to be in such opulence, tucked away from the hustle and bustle. Take me back!
Beautiful hotel with a very warm welcome”
I stayed here with my 7 year old daughter. The rooms are beautiful and the setting is spectacular, amid coconut palms and on the beach. The beaches were not swimmable but we did spend time playing on the sand and paddling in the waves. The staff are very warm and welcoming, and arranged several excursions for us. The hotel is peaceful but there was a construction site next door whilst we were there, which caused some noise. It's very isolated and there are no other shops and restaurants nearby. The food was good but geared towards western tastes - my preference is for more traditional Sri Lankan food.
Beautiful boutique hotel in secluded paradise”
This hotel was the best place we stayed in Sri Lanka. Amazing views from the rooms - they are real and NOT photoshopped... even though it may look that way! Beach is absolutely deserted, perfect sand, clear water. Bird sanctuary, nature, relaxation, great food, helpful staff.
Outstanding service, beautiful location”
This hotel is absolutely fantastic! It is a little hard to find, and it is at the end of a gravel road but it is totally worth it!! The staff is very friendly and their attention to details is so kind. Every time we stepped out of the room, they would make the bed, and rearrange flowers on the bed for decoration. It was very cute as every time I went back into the room, the staff was waiting in front of our room because they were proud of their work (decorating the room). It was so thoughtful of them!! For our dinner, they had organised a lovely romantic table in their garden, away from the restaurant so we could have some privacy. We didn’t even ask for it!! However, it rained so we had to retrieve to the restaurant (where another couple was sitting). The room itself is big, nicely decorated and have a balcony with beautiful views of the ocean. The food was great and reasonably priced. Their pool is great, and warm. As for the beach, there’s absolutely no-one on it, and it is clean!! Though the waves are a little too big to swim.
Incredibly relaxing stay”
We were planning to just stay 2 nights here, but ended up extending for another one as it was such a great place! The hotel was tastefully decorated, with some lovely features including a huge bed and nice pool. The choice of food for dinner was great, and of a really good standard, however, the breakfasts weren't particularly good. THe hotel is completely isolated which is great in a way as you have access to a private beach, and it's so peaceful and relaxing. However, it was a good 20min tuk tuk ride to get into Tangalla, and there were no restaurants nearby. The staff were very helpful and attentive and the wildlife was amazing! We went on a trip on night to try and find turtles nesting, and we did! It was amazing to watch! Overall a very enjoyable stay.
Lovely people in a lovely location ”
The hotel is located in a spectacular location , fresh fish dishes were the best option, the other dishes were basic, and needed updating to match the quality of the location and staff, who were all excellent .
Long unspoiled beach scenery”
Isolated location to enjoy a stay far away from mass tourism. The hotel need to make some improvements for creating a more relaxed atmosphere. It was too stiff! Although a fantastic view on a long beachfront, the garden is slightly neglected. Food was definitely overpriced!
Turtle Bay was a lovely place for a quiet get away. The beach view from the room was fantastic and the staff was friendly. I would recommend this place for anyone looking for a quiet peaceful get away.
Great place to unwind and relax”
If you're a weary traveller, this is a perfect place to unwind. The hotel is very isolated with a lovely beach. The food and service are second to none. Marie and I really had a lovely time here. The manager of the hotel was fantastic. The bed and the room was very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Well done Turtle bay team.
Absolutely loved it!”
Stayed here for 4 nights and we absolutely loved it. Hotel is in a quiet, secluded location with 2 pools, a garden area and access to a deserted beach. The room was nicely decorated and overlooked the sea with a balcony, the bed was huge! Bathroom was a good size and clean with toiletries provided. There is a terrace area downstairs where food is served - the food was delicious, best curry we had in Sri Lanka! There is also a spa area where we both had a relaxing massage. The hotel manager was very knowledgeable with activities in the area, and organised everything for us. What really makes this hotel is the staff - they were very accommodating and friendly, doing everything with a smile. This hotel is perfect if you want a few relaxing days in luxury - would love to go back!
Dear Nancy Thank you for supporting us with an absolutely fabulous review. We are looking forward to inviting you again Luxuriously back to nature at Turtle Bay ! With respect Team@ Turtle bay
Had a great stay over the weekend .. here are the pluses .. beautiful location in a very quite place away from 'civilization ' which suited us very well as we needdd a break from the city .. pristine beach which is almost like a private beach . From morning to night you can hear the sounds of sea .. a mental detox ... lovely little pool . Great staff and exemplary serviceit was my husbands birthday and they were kind enough to bake a lovely cake .. on the flip side what I can say is a bit of a rigid menu .. wish it was a bit more creative .. and certainly overpriced . A Sri Lankan rice and curry at ta 1600 is not reasonable . This is worse considering one has to travel at least 20 km to the nearest town to get food if you are not happy with the menu . Suggest the prices to be reasonable and the menu to have a bit better fusion and local dishes to be certainly be at value for money .. another issue is the sign posts .. please do call the hotel to get directions once you exit the main road as u can easily get lost .. not fun if it is late in the evening ..
We loved our stay at the romantic Turtle Bay. The staff were excellent and provided everything we could ask for. The views from the room and poolside are stunning overlooking miles of deserted beach. If you want a quiet and peaceful relaxing stay this is the place.
A must stay in this piece of heaven ”
We completely enjoyed our stay in this relaxing oasis. The grounds are beautiful, the Beach amazing and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. The hotel is removed from close attractions and restaurants however close enough to see everything you want to see and removed enough so that you feel you in your own private piece of heaven.
Beautiful hotel in a stunning setting”
Loved our stay at Turtle Bay. The staff gave us a lovely welcome and this carried on throughout our stay - they were always very professional and attentive. Our room was beautiful - large and comfortable with stunning views from the balcony. The bathroom was good but could do with a tiny bit of maintenance (cleaning above the shower head and the soap dish was hanging off in the shower). All the communal areas were lovely - clean and bright with great views from the restaurant area. Superb pool area - lovely large infinity pool and without a doubt the best view I've ever had from a pool overlooking the stunning deserted beach. The location of Turtle Bay is paradise and very very relaxing. The food is good especially the fish and the curry option. Would have liked a little more Sri Lankan food maybe particularly for breakfast. Great lassi and cocktails!
Excellent 4 star hotel”
1. The staff were very attentive, friendly and the best we experienced in Sri Lanka (organising trips to Yala, a Kalametiya catamaran, showing us a safe swimming spot and a special meal for my boyfriend's birthday). 2. Location. The hotel is at the end of a bumpy road, it takes some time for tuk tuks and cars to navigate it. This did not bother us as we wanted somewhere relaxing and secluded. The beach was quiet and the location is beautiful. 3. The evening meals were excellent and we chose to eat at the hotel for 3 nights. The menu and cocktail selection was of a high standard and was good value for a hotel restaurant. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
Get away from it all”
A fantastic break from everything. Wifi is available but limited and it's great to be truly away from everything. We had lovely weather though the flies at breakfast were a bit annoying but that's the tropics. At night it was perfect. Definitely a couples location, only 7 rooms so nice to be in the peace and quiet. We loved the sound of the crashing waves. The curry is amazing. We had ten dishes and they were all delicious.
Fantastic deserted beach ”
Staff were incredibly welcoming and went out of their way to make us at home. The hotel is about 30 mins from tangalle and the beach is deserted so fantastic for relaxing, reading by the pool and enjoying. Staff organised lagoon bird watching trips and for us to see turtles nesting on a beach 20km away. Delicious food at the restaurant.
Outstanding service at this small hotel”
We really enjoyed our stay here - purely because of the amazing service. The chef loved cooking us local meals of our choosing and the team regularly provided more food than we asked for - portions were v generous. They tidied and cleaned the room every time we left it. We shared a long deserted beach with all of 6 other guests. All the staff were kind and cared about making sure you had a good time - it was a real team effort. I'd definitely go back and would recommend it to others. A few areas for improvement - there was no hot water during our stay and the hotel is actually 45 min from tangalle - in part due to a v muddy 2-mile unsealed road that takes you to the hotel and takes 30mins to navigate. If it's rained, most cars won't make it down there so you have to take a tuk tuk. They say this will be fixed soon but in reality no one knows when the government will finish it - it could take years!
1 night stay at a beach hotel”
The road leading to the hotel was bumpy. However the hotel was situated very close to the beach, away from the main road. The hotel was a little dated but it was comfortable enough to enjoy our stay. The staff were very attentive and the food was very tasty.
An amazing stay for 3 nights with some of the friendliest Sri Lankan staff we came across. Food was amazing and nothing was ever a hassle. Make sure you walk down the beach one morning and help the locals pull in their days catch! A very cool experience
