Hotel Revolution!”
Finally someone in the hotel industrial has got it right! I am a frequent traveler and have stayed in many hotels within the last few years. I would have to say that the U Chiang Mai is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in for the price. The way they do thing is just revolutionary. They are simple things such as allowing the guest to eat breakfast at any time rather than forcing him to eat from 6:00 AM til 9:00 AM. The breakfasts by the way are awsome and there are 6 types of breakfasts to choose from. The other thing that I think is cool is that you can actually keep your room for 24 hours instead of being forced to check-out at 12:30 PM or 1:00 PM the next day if you check in late. I checked in at about 7:30 PM and was told that I am allow to keep my room until 7:30 PM the next day. This is the U Chiang Mai check-out policy which makes complete sense unlike other hotels. The food menu that they have for room-service is small but the foods are excellent. Prices are quite reasonable and you don't feel like you are being rip-off compare to room service at other hotels. Besides all the wonderful things such as free WIFI and selection of soap for bathroom during check-in, the important things such as a comfortable bed and clean bathroom are also up to par. My overall experience with this hotel is great. For the first time in a long time, I feel like someone in the hotel industry has sat down and actually listen to what the modern traveler wants in a hotel instead of following some manual on how to run a hotel that was probably published back in the 1950s.
Excellent Service”
before u chiang mai, we stayed in a resort in mae rim, enjoying the nature and quietness. i was a bit worried to more to the city center. however, when entering u chiang mai, i found the hotel is in such a peace. it's a small boutique hotel, very delicate. the service here is worth mentioning. upon arrival, the front desk lady enquired our departure time, and when she noticed that we have to leave as early as 5:30 in the morning, they suggest to arrange a taxi but also notify that it would be expensive as 300bht because of the early time. and they also prepare the breakfast box. so sweet and nice, i'm impressed. old city is small, it's convenient to borrow hotel bicycle to enjoy the city. i'm really like u chiang mai, and will definitely book it again next time.
nice hotel in the heart of the old city”
we stayed at the u chiang mai for 4 nights. the location was great. i highly recommend staying in the center of the old city rather than in the night bazaar area (the night bazaar is touristy and bad) or the ping river area (the river is pretty but everything around that area caters solely to rich westerners - if that's what you want, fine, but why bother flying all the way to chiang mai for it). the hotel offers free wifi, which every hotel should do, and it has a reasonably nice fitness center (more than one treadmill and decent equipment). it also has a reasonably nice pool, though if you're on the ground floor, which we were, what you gain from being able to exit into the pool is lost in privacy. the breakfast was also good. i'm not sure how the 24 hour checkin policy works since they asked our friend (in another room) if he could give his room up early - but i suppose that was just a request, not a demand. it's also reasonably expensive and so if you don't value a fitness center or an infinity pool etc, then you will definitely be able to find better value for money in chiang mai. i may be tempted to do the same next time. but overall, the u was a good hotel.
Nicest Staff in the World!”
U Chiang Mai is truly a first class hotel. No detail is left untouched. It has comfy king-sized beds with great linens, plush towels, great soaps, shampoos, etc., and a good sized gym - surprisingly well-equipped for a hotel this size. But the standout is the staff. The hotel has an abundance of staff everywhere, each of which bearing a smile and friendly “hello” every hour of the day and night, and eager to help with anything. The location is great. The hotel is located on a street that has all of the nearby businesses that you might need, but does not get a lot of vehicle traffic, so the location is quiet – except Sunday night. On Sunday, the night market “walking street” sets up shop right in front of the hotel. This night market was the best that we visited in our three-week tour across Thailand. The hotel restaurant and bar is located along the street. The included breakfast consists of breads, fruits, cereals and juices. Additionally, you can order, free of charge, any of a half-dozen cooked breakfasts from the restaurant menu, as well as unlimited lattes and other coffees. In summary, the hotel offers outstanding value for the price. We were very impressed with the U Chiang Mai.
Wonderful Hotel! Great Location!!!!”
We stayed at the U Chiang Mai on the third leg of our honeymoon. It was the PERFECT hotel in Chiang Mai. Very centrally located and easy to walk everywhere. It was no more than a 100baht tuk tuk ride to the night bazaar and the perfect location to explore the old city. The staff was extremely attentive and helpful. On arrival, we went into the lobby to ask about calling out of the room to book tours and rather than just instructing us how, they called to see if there was availability and booked all of our tours for us for no extra fee. I will stay at the U Chiang Mai every time I visit Chiang Mai in the future.
Fantastic Boutique Hotel in great location!”
U Chiang Mai was one of the best boutique hotels I have ever stayed in. Everything in the room was high quality (bedding, soaps, ipod docking station). The room location was great with a personal patio next to the pool. The perks like the same checkout time as check-in time and free bicycles were something you don't often see. The location of hotel was perfect if you are looking to explore the old city and accessible to other areas with the free bicycles offered. It is worth it to stay on a Sunday if possible as the Sunday Night Market sets up right outside the hotel. Finally, the staff always had smiles on their faces and were very helpful. Only cons were that the breakfast was not that great and the drink prices were on the expensive side.
Terrific hotel in central Chiang Mai”
We stayed at U Chiang Mai for two nights, and decided to come back for another night before we left the area. The hotel is not cheap, but you really get your moneys worth. The staff is extremely helpful. For our first stay, I had made a mistake with the dates for our reservation but the staff solved it immediately, calling Agoda for me, arranging all the changes necessary and printing the new and correct voucher. The rooms are lovely, with great bathrooms and balconys and they pretty much change your towel everytime you leave the room. The common areas also are very nice, do not miss the upstairs reading room, where there are also two computers with internet for the guests to use and lots of literature about Chiang Mai. The gym is quit good, and I also liked that the pool is (just about but still) big enough for doing laps. The water in the pool is just a little cold if your not exercising, but the pool and the pool area is a really pretty place to hang out.
Enjoyable Stay”
This was my first stay at U Chiang Mai and I really enjoyed it. The room was clean and the bed very comfortable. The staff were attentive and efficient, and the hotel well located in the old part of the city. The road on which it fronts is closed off from 4pm on Sundays for a local market. I left after the market started and the staff arranged for a taxi to meet in a local temple down an alleyway opposite the hotel. Not a problem as the staff carried my bags but if you are coming in from the airport after 4pm the driver may not be aware of the easy access pount to the hotel. Will definitely stay here again.
Delightful boutique hotel at the center of it all”
U Chiang Mai is definitely not the most inexpensive hotel in Chiang Mai, but it is also not the most expensive -- by far! style hotel outside the city and find yourself just as pampered as you will at U Chiang Mai. The value of this boutique hotel cannot be overstated, and the location is superb. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the restaurant is expensive by Chiang Mai standards but offers delicious iterations of some of Thailand's most famous dishes and is worth the money for a special occasion.
Perfect Location and Excellent Staff!”
Our family of 4, including 2 children stayed for 4 nights at U Chiang Mai. We were warmly welcomed with bael juice and cold cloths upon check-in. The grounds and hotel is a beautiful oasis that you do not expect to see walking off from the street. It is located in the Old City and is in walking distance to many restaurants. The staff are so hospitable and the room is nicely appointed. Our room included breakfast which had many delicious food options. We had a memorable time here and hope to return one day!

The friendlest hotel I've ever stayed in! ”
This was our first trip to Chiang Mai, and this was the first hotel that we stayed in. We came back to Chiang Mai a couple days later and returned to this hotel again because our experience was so good. Absolutely the friendliest, kindest hotel staff I've ever seen. Excellent people, excellent service, and truly a good value. The next time I'm in a city with a U hotel, I'll definitely be sure to stay there, and can only hope that my experience is as good as the one we had at the U Chiang Mai.
Amazing hotel, beautiful service”
We stayed for five nights with our two and half year old daughter and were very happy with everything. The hotel is centrally located in old Chiang Mai and hence very convenient to travel. The rooms are very comfortable. The staff were more than willing to help us in any way. Our toddler was greeted with smiles through out the trip, not only by the locals but by the staff as well. We thank U Chiang Mai for making our stay at Chiang Mai so incredible.
Excellent Stay with a Phenomenal Staff”
We had SUCH a great stay at the U Chiang Mai! The hotel is lovely, with a boutique type design, well-designed comfortable rooms, inclusion of welcome drinks and daily breakfast (served whenever and wherever), great pool and gym and an exceptional staff. The service really sets this hotel apart - the team that runs the hotel is extremely attentive. We were there over my 30th birthday, and that night, we needed a reco on where to go for dinner. As we were chatting with the front desk manager, the lights dimmed and the staff brought out a cake and sang to me. Incredibly thoughtful!! After we left I thanked my husband for letting them know - and the real kicker - he didn't! They must have noticed the date on my passport and had a cake ready in the off chance we stopped in the lobby. We couldn't believe it! That gesture was indicative of our stay - really, just a great staff. Will definitely recommend this hotel to our friends!
Perfect!”
U Chiang Mai was exactly what we were looking for. It has a great atmosphere and feels very warm and inviting. The staff was excellent - always smiling and very helpful. The rooms are nice and the location is perfect - right in the middle of the square. Having breakfast included was awesome! We just walked down to the restaurant every morning and food was taken care of so that we could get on with exploring the city with full tummies! They also provide free bikes to help you explore. I would definitely stay here again!
Great boutique hotel”
This is our third booking at U Chiang Mai. Very happy with the service of this hotel. They really understand the meaning of being a "boutique" hotel. Offering perks like 1) 24 hour breakfast service 2) no check in or check out times (They allowed to me to stay until 5pm, no charge) 3) getting to pick your soaps 4) Ipods in each room etc. The staff is super friendly, the hotel is well maintained and is a perfect location to visit Chiang Mai.
A five star + experience!”
We stayed for five days in U Chiang Mai Hotel and that was the best part of our whole trip! The atmosphere is so relaxed and easy going, the staff extremely helpful and the style and finish of the whole place is fabulous. Our Deluxe room was large and cosy with our own porch & pool, and the best and most comfortable bed I ever had at a hotel. And there are som many details to be happy about; the unlimited breakfast hours, the unexpected glass with water and fruit when lying by the poolside, the lovely soaps to choose from when checking in...wonderful. We simply didn't want to leave and we'll come back for sure!!
Serene oasis in the middle of the old city”
even in the hot season, u chiang mai hotel is breezy and refreshing. the open concept design keeps the reception and pool area airy, and the pool itself is kept at a nice and cool temperature - perfect for dipping into after a hot day out. the rooms are nicely laid out and designed, all with a balcony looking into the court yard. the service was second to none and exemplifies thai hospitality. the restaurant could use some jazzing up.
Very nice hotel with lovely staff”
Overall a very good place to stay. A couple of things that impacted on our stay. I was travelling with a friend and requested two separate beds via email in advance. U Chiang Mai replied that we would have two separate beds. When we arrived there was only one double bed, so we requested the separate beds again but were advised the whole hotel only has double rooms. So they made up a stretcher bed, but this was rock hard and neither of us could sleep on it! Pools are both outdoors and very well shaded by the buildings - too cold to swim in even though the day time temp was around 30 degrees.
Great hotel, great service, great location”
Adding the modernity of the hotel to the charm of the old Thai house used as reception / reading room / spa, U CHiang Mai hotel is an excellent location to discover surrounding temples and is close to good restaurants and cafes. The staff is very friendly, smiling and helpful. Try their massage at the spa and then relax in the old reading room having tea and reading interesting books about the region.
What a little beauty!!”
We needed a hotel for one night prior to departing Chiang Mai. This hotel was absolutely perfect. Great location in the centre of Chiang Mai within the walls. The hotel is modern Thai style, clean, roomy and comfortable. The beds were not the rock hard asian style but nice and soft but firm. The room was beautifully decorated and had lots of little extras that make a stay pleasant such as choice of soap, free water, scented soft generous towels, one complimentary drink from the minibar, bath robes, slippers and other things that I have forgotten. The breakfast (included) was great and although more expensive than outside (as are all hotels) the standard was good. Located 10 minutes from the airport this hotel provides an excellent stop over or short stay option. Nice swimming pools, gym and bar.
