The service here was exceptional: When we arrived, staff greeted us and we were treated to matcha and sweets while the staff processed our check-in.

Staff were also attentive to our needs and took the effort to explain to us the facilities in the hotel and our room.

As we also travelled around lake kawaguchiko, I can reasonably say that the hotel affords the best view of mt fuji.

An experience you won't forget!”
Let's get the most obvious bit out of the way - this hotel/ryokan is expensive! But I assure you that the view of Mt. Fuji is worth every penny you pay for a night at this establishment. We took the bus from Tokyo to Kawaguchi Station and despite being aware that the hotel could arrange for pickup from the station, we decided to walk the perimeter of Lake Kawaguchi to the hotel. The hotel is about a mile or so from the station, so if you are the type to travel light, I recommend you take a leisurely stroll and enjoy the scenery. Once there, we were greeted by a most lovely and welcoming staff - some whom were dressed in modern business hotel attire and some in full Japanese traditional garb. We were ushered to the hotel lounge area where they checked us in over the most delicious green tea I have ever tasted in my life (no exaggeration). After check-in, we were shown to the room and was totally floored by the detail and finesse of the rooms. The toilets were squeaky clean, the room was spotless and outside the large floor-to-ceiling window was Mt. Fuji herself, in all its glory. Dinner was quite a momentuous affair also, with a lovely hotel staff bringing the food to our room and presented each food to us. The four or five course dinner (I can't remember) was served in the Japanese-style tradition i.e. on those low Japanese tables while sitting on the floor in the middle of our room. After dinner, a different hotel staff came round and prepared our bedding which was very well made, clean and comfortable. Breakfast the next morning was served on Level 2 (the hotel dining area). We did not try the onsen as we were more attracted to walking around the Lake Kawaguchi area and even attempted climbing up hills and all that sort. But then again, we are a bit on the adventurous side, so you could opt to stay in the hotel and the experience would be as brilliant. In conclusion, I wish you two things - 1) that you stay at Kozantei Ubuya with someone that you lov
The best hotel stay I've ever experienced”
I found out about Kozantei Ubuya Ryokan from Chinese social media and it was highly recommended, it looked like the hotel is a bit hard to book over the holiday, which I was super excited that there were 1 room left for Christmas eve. The hotel is English friendly, we also heard a server speaks Chinese as well. The hotel asked us if we had anything to celebrate upon arrival, our anniversary was two weeks ago so we mentioned, didn't expect anything but they surprised us with a bottle of Japanese wine and some celebration activities at dinner. The hotel room view is AMAZING! We can see Mt. Fuji straight out from our window, it was priceless. The room is giant. We didn't get the private onsen room and used the public onsen, the community changing area, shower area, and vanity provides basic care supplies including toner and moisturizer. The outdoor onsen was incredible, again, a Mt. Fuji view onsen. Food (breakfast & dinner) was good, the presentation was very Japanese.
View of Mt Fuji and wonderful ryotei”
Waking up to the morning with the sight of Fuji San if he isn't shy. What more do u ask for?! The dinner is very well prepared with A5 local beef cut for Shabu Shabu and also Grilled. The location is walkable distance to sourveniar shops and free shuttle services to kawaguchiko station and other activities. Not sure if I've got the largest room, but it is definitely huge to fit up to 6 pax. My favorite part of ubuya is the public bath! Unblock view of Mt Fuji. Already missing Ubuya
A memorable stay”
Our stay at Kozantei Ubuya will always be etched in our minds as one of the best stays if not the best stay in our travels. Lake Kawaguchi in front of the ryokan is such a pleasant sight. Although it was very cloudy the day of our arrival plus the rain the entire evening, the view early the next morning was spectacular when we drew open our curtain. Mount Fuji loomed just behind the lake!!!! 🗻 A sight to behold! Every room has a splendid view of Mt Fuji, including the bathing area as well as the lounge and restaurant area! An extra bonus for us was that we were given a corner view hence we had an extra window facing to view the lake and mountain. Taking the Kachi Kachi Ropeway gave another beautiful view of Mt Fuji. A walk around the lake was another way to view the mountain as well as stops to visit some of the many tourist attractions. We spent the rest of the afternoon sitting in the lounge just admiring the splendour of Mt Fuji. The massage chairs provided were a welcome! From the impeccable service provided; free shuttle from bus/train station, welcome at the check-in---a hot towel, warm matcha and a small snack, service provided to the room, facilities at the public baths, food etc, everything was just simply top- notch. Free drinks and herbal drinks also provided twice a day. It was a memorable stay worth every dollar!
A wonderful and authentic Japanese experience”
I stayed at Kozantei Ubuya for 2 nights and I was blown away the moment I got there. The view overlooking the lake to Mt Fuji is just spectacular. I was lucky to have clear skies for both days. I splurged on a room with a private bath and I must say it is definitely worth it. Sitting in a hot bath looking over Mt Fuji was just an unforgettable experience which me and my partner enjoyed. Shoes are not allowed while in the ryokan, they provide robes and slippers to wear whilst dining and in the lounge area. The staff are attentive and although not all speak english they try very hard to explain things to you. They make you feel so welcome and always have a smile on their face. Dinner and lunch was simply delicious. You get to choose between Japanese or Western style. We chose Japanese for both days and they had a different menu each day. Definitely recommended for a once in a lifetime experience!!
Five star experience all around!”
Suffice it to say in a few words that no description will match the actual experience of staying here. From the welcome greeting and overall service (from a mostly English speaking staff), attention to detail in the rooms (cleanliness, decor and the private onsen), the incredible views and gourmet Japanese cuisine, I can’t say enough good things about our night at Kozantei Ubuya. I’ve only stayed at a couple other Japanese inns like this, and may not have a wide frame of reference, but I’ve stayed at a lot of hotels and this definitely delivers an amazing experience with Fuji-San as a backdrop.
The good and the not so good”
Ubuya came with amazing reviews from a friend, and 3 of us decided to book it for a traditional ryokan experience. The price is certainly on the high end so we did have certain expectations going in. My friends arrived and checked in first, and after admiring the view from the room (which is amazing if the skies are clear as you are looking at Mt Fuji) , discovered, to her horror a used sanitary pad in the shower area. She rang housekeeping who came and removed it, but had to be prompted to sanitise that area as well. Thankfully, the rest of the trip was better - Service was good. We enjoyed the facilities such as the massage chair lounge, onsen (indoor and outdoor), traditional Japanese breakfast and dinner (the beef shabu shabu was melt in your mouth amazing). Bear in mind the hotel's last shuttle bus to the station in the morning is 11am, after which you'd likely take a taxi, or a sightseeing bus (290yen) as they won't bring anyone to the station even if picking someone up.
This was the second time we went to Kozantei Ubuya. Everything stays perfectly the same, e.g. excellent services, good facilities, perfect view, spacious room; except for food, we did feel that the quality of food dropped a little bit. The quality of food provided couldn't match what we had during last visit.
Amazing views of Mt Fuji”
Kozantei Ubuya was a great place to stay to celebrate our honeymoon; the facilities were great, the staff were always super friendly and helpful and you get an amazing view of Mt Fuji and Lake Kawaguchiko. I love their attention to detail and I love their turn down service every night. We will definitely be back to celebrate our wedding anniversary!
i don't review much on agoda nowadays since there is no POINTS, but for this hotel , i feel oblige to share our amazing experience, its just stunning, #majestic fuji in front of you on every corner, food is delicious, staff is attentive and make sure all your needs is fulfil, originally we book for superior room and ask for agoda wether room with private onsen is available for upgrade, no luck, but on D day, we ask reception, YES, they still have 1 last room with private bath with upgrade fee, OK, we take it. and from just entering the room, its mesmerizing every corner, if you look for the best view in kawaguchi, look for nothing but this hotel, a few tips, hotel provide free shuttle from kawaguchi station to hotel(need to call them), there is taxy at kawaguchi station too, or buy 2 days omni bus pass if you feel want to explore neighbourhood
Amazing experience with top quality food and service”
Everything with this ryokan was the best I have experienced in the hospitality industry. All the staff were extremely polite and spoke english well, and attended to every request we had quickly. The view from the hotel room was incredible too! Mt Fuji combined with the lake provided a dreamlike view from both the hotel room and the onsen. The food served was also amazing: we had a Kaiseki dinner with A5 shabu shabu beef, as well as a traditional Japanese breakfast. All the ingredients tasted fresh and delicious! Would highly recommend this place to others, it's definitely worth the price :)
Amusing arrangement ”
Upon request, the hotel arranged a birthday surprise to my aunt. Besides birthday gift, they also printed out the photo for us as souvenir. My aunt was very happy. Its location is perfect for the stunning view of Mt. Fuji. We spent the afternoon in the hotel after check-in. We both enjoyed staying there!
Great Ryokan with great views”
This Ryokan had extremely beautiful views of Mount Fuji. We booked far in advance but the date we stayed happened to be rainy and cloudy. However, Mt. Fuji came through for us and showed itself for five whole minutes of sunshine at 6am! The meals were delicious and a great experience of a traditional Kaiseki. The dinner was great but the breakfast captivated me. The rooms also have showers and air conditioning even though it Agoda says it doesn't. Although the place is top notch, it still has cons: 1) Either our Onsen temperature control was broken or it was not meant to work. It was extremely hot, hotter than most others, to the point that we could only stay in for a few seconds before having to stand up to take a breather. 2) It's extremely hard to see what you're getting. I've looked for hours to find realistic room reviews so I can know what to expect. There aren't much not even on youtube. I don't know what it is with the management but they don't like to release pictures...
Disappointed experience on my stay ”
I made a reservation on 25-26 Apr, 2019. I dropped off my luggages together with an umbrella in hotel since room wasn’t ready in the morning. When we backed to hotel, reception has already sent our luggages to our room but then I realised my umbrella wasn’t there. Therefore I checked with reception while I was checking out - we’ve been told that our umbrella was gone, they were unable to find it. Honestly I was really surprised as they didn’t even try to find since they responded at once. There was one staff who could speak Chinese told me I could borrow one from them - so what was the point to borrow as I have already checked out. Honestly, umbrella doesn’t cost much but the service and response from Ubuya are really disappointed.
Service was top notch best place to stay by far”
The stay was perfect from the time they picked us up from the train station til the time they dropped us off free of charge I might add. Everything we needed they provided. Rooms are spacious and our room was amazing especially the onsen on our patio overlooking the lake and Mt. Fuji. Dinner and breakfast were provided and both were excellent quailty with much attention to detail. From the tea they served upon arrival, the staff showing us our room and the treats they provided in our room for free. Beds were very comfy and you can even get a massage in your room which we did and it was amazing. The staff at thia hotel is amazing wishmore places treated their guests this good. I will be back next time I am in japan I love this place.
Beautiful ryokan in stunning location”
The hotel room had a stunning view on Mount Fuji, the onsen as well, the facilities were all very clean and looked after, the style is simple and classy. Dinner was excellent and the staff was very nice and polite. The only down side was that having arrived early (11AM) I was basically turned away and told I could not use the facilities before check in time at 3, which I found a bit unusual compared to most hotels that simply don't give you the room until it's ready but let you use the rest, but this may be a ryokan rule. Anyway I would definitely recommend it and would like to go back with my husband one day, as it's a very romantic place, perfect for couples.
Great service and delicious food”
It was a lovely experience , the hotel has provided us everything from top to toe. The service is amazing and the food is fresh and authentic . The price might seem a little high ,however with 2 meals provided and everything else , it is definitely worth the money. The only down point is , check out time is at 11 am and they are very strict about it.
Luxury ryokan with stunning views”
Luxury ryokan with stunning views of Mount Fuji from all rooms as well as the onsen, dining room, tearoom and relaxation corner with massage chairs. Both breakfast and dinner were very good. Love the complimentary floral tea in the evening. Downside is of course the price which is very high, but worth it for a special treat.
Great view which is facing the Fuji Mountain and it is worthy for the money spend. Customer service is excellent while I suggest the hotel pick up service can be more flexible since we went to some sightseeing before go to the hotel, therefore we store the luggage at the station. We took the bus to the hotel in order to check-in the room, then we ask if can drive us to the station to pick up the luggage and back to the hotel as there is pick up service from the station to hotel however they reject since can only provide pick up service for one-way.
View and view!”
This hotel is in an amazing location. The hotel is clean and the staff is friendly. We only stayed 2 days and enjoyed our meals. I highly recommend the breakfast. The dinner was good but the Shabu shabu was lot of work and I would have liked a prepared meal. We were very busy traveling to many places and were super tired, so would have preferred not have to worry about cooking the meal ourself. However, the quality of the ingredients were really good and the staff made you feel that 5 star resort service. My suggestions to the Ryokan would be to serve prepared meal for dinner, and serve some snacks with the tea and coffee in the morning and the afternoon. In the morning we were hungry and wished there was a snack or a small place to buy some snacks. The vending machine had only drinks. The "bath" was great, but it is little dated. It was clean and warm. After 7 days of walking and touring, our body, and mind needed it. We became different people. A true 5 star resort feeling.
